A sorry tale of an in-memoriam charitable donation lost to this company

When looking to make a charitable donation to Diabetes UK of £200 in memory of a family member who passed away, my web search took me to this company's web site and a donation option, which I mistakenly used to make the payment. It was not clear to me that the 'Make a Donation' button was in fact a commercial company soliciting money and not a donation to a registered charity. When I did not receive the confirmation for the in-memoriam charitable donation, I contacted Diabetes.org.uk who explained what may have happened, and kindly gave me the contact details of this company, so presumably I am not the first to experience this.

I contacted the company to explain the situation, that I was able to double the donation through a company matching scheme, so Diabetes UK would have received £400. They committed in writing to refund me, so I could redirect the money to the charity. But after months of repeated requests, non-responses and feeble excuses, the money was never reimbursed.

While I never received the refund I was promised, and my donation never reached the Diabetes UK charity, its intended recipient, I thought I should at least share my experience with this company and alert others to the pitfalls of dealing with them.

Not very helpful

Not very helpful. Also thin people get diabetic. It’s food manufacturers who are the culprits, also bad needles and pens. Diabetics are being lied to.

There is a clear agenda with this…

There is a clear agenda with this private health company. What frustrates me is when you give a platform to conspiracy theorists who say saturated fat isn't harmful and those who say cholesterol isn't important. You are responsible for confusing health professionals and my clients. I've had links sent to me from those on your website who say that the dietary guidelines are responsible for the obesity crisis (only a tiny percentage, less than 3% are actually following it here in the UK).

Forum is run by a private health…

Forum is run by a private health company and regulated by obstinate moderators who will ban new members who tell the truth about how inaccurate and expensive the forum is and the limited services they offer for sale (e.g. overpriced and generally useless books etc).

As many other reviewers have correctly stated the 'diabetes.co.uk' forum takes advanatage of desperate people many of whom think that the forum is run by the Uk's registered diabetes charity - Diabetes UK, or diabetes.org.uk. The forum is hosted by a private health company.

I would go as far as to say that the diabetes.co.uk forum is 'passing itself off' as the legitimate diabetes.org.uk forum. This illegitimate forum needs to be taught a lesson before it does any more harm.

AVOID AT ALL COST.

Do not get duped by this imposter!

The website you need is diabetes.org.uk which is the real website for the diabetes charity Diabetes UK which has genuinely helpful advice if you are in danger of getting Diabetes Type 2 or already have it.

Do not get duped by the imposter diabetes.co.uk which is a front for a commercial health company DDM Health. They try to sell you the Low Carb Program which is very expensive at £69.99 per year yet of very poor quality, even at cut price of £20. They try to sell you very overpriced books at £40 for a recipe book of 200 recipes. Somehow they have an address based at University of Warwick and have got articles into the national newspapers so they seem to have an active marketing department. I am asking for a refund of my £20 as the website is worthless, you can get much better info for free elsewhere! To be fair they have now refunded my £20 promptly without question.

Instead save your money and get free recipes from diabetes.org.uk or British Heart Foundation.

Carbs and Cals is an app worth trying out free for 14 days. Cancel your subscription right away to stop falling into paying £34.99 per year. The book is not much good as it does not give the effect of each food on blood glucose whereas the app does.

Can recommend the free apps from NHS such as Weight Loss, Active 10 and Couch to 5K

I think the TV ad is co.pletely…

I think the TV ad is completely misleading, I paid a year in advance or I would have cancelled. The only support,ha, I have received is request for more donations, and the initial literature is nothing you couldn't get from 5 minutes on the Internet.
Don't join and waste your money, I bet the CEO earns a fortune, typical of modern day charities.

Dad passed away and we found they blindly sponsored this

Dad passed away and mum thinking she was clever left the flower cash to this charity because both mum and dad had always supported it... Blindly signed up for this because being old they thought it helped..... I'm so angry words can't fit with how I feel.... This is just terrible.unless you want to sponsor a journalist about something that may or may not be true.

Appaling website

Appaling website, ran by misguided individuals who don't understand how other disabilities can affect diabetes. Instead they choose to push their own agenda instead of trying to help people in need. It's genuinely quite frightening how uneducated the moderator's are and the nonsense they spout

Not a useful website for anyone.

I was diagnosed in mid-March 2019 with an HBA1c of 111, I was so devastated thinking my life would never be the same and of course I was wrong it is but at the time I wanted to tell others so I told my story on diabetes.co.uk, thinking I was on some official NHS type place lol of how I reversed my diabetes over months but saw excellent signs in weeks that my blood glucose levels went down and down that’s what pushed me on, I was elated and amazed it was without my prescribed gliclazide, Please note I did lose weight quite quick, I was 17.5 stone in mid-march and not long after diagnosis I went for it, I still ate takeaways here and there etc, but mainly watching and being careful calorie counting, by Aug 2019 I was around 14 stone and now in July 2021 I’m 13 stone.
I was given gliclazide to take 2 tablets, 3 times a day, a test meter and I asked hopefully, if it could possibly be prediabetes and the nurse with a not so kind aura said no way not with your hba1c result of 111 in mid-march, I was so confused and scared but was quietly confident I would fix this, I went home and read everything I possibly could on the internet and read many, many inspiring stories that helped me feel super confident that I could do this, I cut out all the lager and started eating foods that would bring my blood glucose levels down(Meat protein, salad, boiled rice, potatoes, fruit, ready break and even tried almond milk and now use it on cereal to this day). I started losing weight with the measures I took virtually straight away, I only took the gliclazide for 1 day and decided I would never take it again unless I failed doing it my way, and I’m pleased to say it worked and I’m now in July 2021 and I’m not controlling it unless you say watching your weight is controlling it.

I had an HBA1C test on June 4th 2019, 6 weeks after diagnosis and remember the nurse with the aura’s comment to me “ no way with your result and with her pursed lips slightly turned up at the corners, and to my pleasure, low and behold it was normal, 41.

I then had another test in Nov 2019 normal again 36 (That felt good too!) I never ever went to see another diabetes nurse except for an hBA1c at my request, because now I know what they said was not accurate at all, and I oddly kind of new it and went on to prove it, so I was lucky/brave I didn’t take their gliclazide or I would never have known that my glucose levels would drop by a few changes in lifestyle (I live like anyone else, I put good effort into losing weight for 6 months after diagnosis but don’t think I’m eating lettuce all day, I’m normal especially now, Chips, Chinese strawberry tarts, donuts to name but a few, it’s just not every day, they are convenience/special treats😊)
I would have thought 100% that it was the gliclazide that sorted my glucose levels for me and would probably be taking it 3 times a day without even thinking about it 2.5 years on, In the belief it was the medication that was binging my glucose levels down and saving me hmm, (scary to think about now)
I told this story on diabetes.co.uk and got a few inspired feedbacks from new/normal users of diabetes.co.uk but many or most of the moderators are horrendous there and don’t want or let anyone say what I have just said here (The truth)
They are very god like in their know it all and teacher style of communicating with members like kids, very aggressive and I agree totally with John Vicks, hope that’s his name the guy below who said they have hidden agendas, and gang up to silence you and if you do not, ban you, I have no idea why it’s like that but it is. Well I was swiftly banned after a week or 2 and that’s an upsetting thing to happen when I knew I had something inspiring for other people newly diagnosed humans, that’s what gave me the confidence to do what I done reversing my diabetes, reading other people’s stories in the USA mostly and research materials way back in March 2019.
If it failed I would take the gliclazide as prescribed, but 6 weeks later, joyfully I had a normal HBA1c of 41 (I was told high normal but normal) so I was elated, confident and wanted to run in my doctors and shout it out to the nurse who passed me my diagnosis but later found out she was retired so I could not maybe that’s good for me not to show myself up.
I am proud of my decision and so grateful I didn’t get stuck on gliclazide forever thinking it was making me better. That would have been catastrophic and I wouldn’t even have been aware of it
.
Diabetes.co.uk = Sick Moderators, medication won’t fix the sickness there.

This is to a private organisation

This is to a private organisation, so it's information will be dictated by bias , like it's advertising of its diabetes prescription service , which is really a partnership with a internet Pharmacy called pharmacy2u , which was fined for selling patient data , The online pharmacy company Pharmacy2U has been fined £130,000 for selling details of more than 20,000 of its customers to marketing companies without their knowledge or consent. More than 100,000 customer details were advertised for sale, at a cost of £130 per 1,000 records. Ref pharmaceutical Journal Oct 2015 . So how can they promote such a company without giving this information.

Humourless domain for people with…

Humourless domain for people with diabetes.
The forums are run like primary school classrooms with moderators so politically correct it is stifling any attempt to lighten the mood and likely to frighten off many from ever taking part.
These forums house a few, dangerously subversive, members with their own hidden agendas, who gang up with some moderators to get free thinkers expelled as soon as they appear.
I would NOT recommend using the forums.
