Not the greatest customer service on offer
I appreciate that they helped when my normal bank wouldn't due to centerlink income- although it is fairly predatory. My issue was after making many regular payments ontime, no issues whatsoever... i had my car battery die 2 days before Christmas, leaving me without enough money to make my fortnightly loan repayment the next day, so i called straight away to let them know. I was met with a dismissive and unhelpful staff member, not willing to help or put any notes down about my payment being late. I have then received an email with a $35 dishonour fee.
I also have a loan with champion loans, same repayment, due same day- their service was amazing, they understood my circumstances and noted it down so i could avoid penalties.. the staff were friendly, so this displayed the stark contrast in customer service. Luckily nearly finished paying off loan, after that experience i won't be recommending. I would expect that treatment if i failed to communicate and ignorantly or deliberately did the wrong thing.

Talking to their staff is like talking to a brick wall, they give you loan terms you did not ask for and you simply accept because otherwise it will take days of correspondence to get it changed. It feels like their staff barely understand english and do not give a crap they will barely reply or bother to properly read an email. My bank bounced a payment so i manually repaid it and communicated that to them, still kept trying to direct debit and adding more dishonor fees. The interest is absurd and this is absolutely a predatory loan service

If your low income don't put yourself in there trap, luckily I do alright and just wanted a quick loan but never eventuated, lucky for me. I just saved for 2 weeks and got what I wanted with cash anyway. dodgy service dodgy staff and predators of low income families, just save your pennies if you can

If I could give a ZERO stars I would. I’ve been using city finance for almost a decade now, and always on time with my payment. Until today when an emergency happened to my family, called in to cancelled my payment for this cycle (first time) the answer was “ no we can’t help because it’s an automated payment and if you would have called 2 days earlier, we would have been able to stopped it.” It’s an emergency for Gods sake and other companies was no problem and we’re able to cancelled it for me. The payment was going to go next the day. So very disappointed, added more stress to what I am going through.

They only give loans to centrelink recipients to prey on them. Do not trust this service. I paid off my loan and still they are saying I owe them more than the loan amount. For over 8 months I tried to settle this with them while they just kept piling on more fees. You cannot get a straight answer... AND they will straight up gaslight you.

Waste of time
Applied for a loan, they then sent me a message saying my application had passed the first important stage , I had many emails and messages asking for an upload of another bank account- i r decided not to continue with it based on their poor reviews and I wasn't confident I would get approved. Days go by and they continue to harrass me to continue with my bank account upload. I decided to give it a go but once I did, I was declined . Complete waste of time and they shouldn't give customers false information that the application is looking good

Hiding information deliberately
Everything was smooth till the end. I had paid off my final payment couple of weeks ago and I got a text saying I have another payment pending. Turns out it was a fee for deferring a payment which was not told to me when I was deferring the payment. The customer service rep pointed me to towards the contract which I can understand everyone needs to read but even if you read the whole thing you can’t remember these little details. They should have told me about the fees when I was deferring the payment, rather than bringing it up at the end. I unwillingly paid for it and hence why this review.

Well this was the worst experience I've ever had with a company.
Firstly I would like to say even though I own my own house outright, I am on disability which they claim to help, my credit score is above average and I also have a housemate I go halves in the bills with and also transfer my money into another account and to the person that pays my bills etc.
Anyway I apply for $650, receive notification that everything checks out and I will receive a call shortly to go through the last part.
I never received that call, only another message stating I didn't qualify.
If they bothered to call and had any questions I could have given them my other account number, even though it shows that I put all my savings into a different account, they wanted to see the one I was paid in.
Now my credit will be tainted. Just don't do it, even a fully paid off House Is Not Enough collateral for a 600 loan and I've heard a lot of knockbacks for those on Centrelink after speaking to others.
So thank you City Finance for looking into my credit and Bank enough to pass the First and not bothered to even call after receiving a message saying we will call you in a couple of minutes.

I should have realised after reading it's been over a year since City finance has reply to anybody that's had a bad experience and if you look deeper 94% of people that finance give 1 star.

It's businesses like this who make out they can help people then slap you in the face by rejecting your application for a loan that should be shut down for being scamming money hungry s.o.b.s. apply for a $1000 dollar loan and in 52 weeks you'll be paying back $1800. Absolute thieves. Stay away

Received a email from Your City Fiance entitled "WHOOPS." In the email it stated that I please disregard their earlier email stating that my application for finance had been denied. (I never made an application) They said this was sent in error. Then finished the email with a 'joke from Chloe' about toes and feet.

Absolutely shocking company
Absolutely shocking company, I applied for a loan in November and was approved for $2100. On top of this i have just found out that as well as the $400 extra to be paid for fees and processing I was also charged 48% interest. Accumulating to $2900 I am expected to repay, no matter how fast you pay it of the interest stays the same. Absolute sham of a company, praying on those with low income and charging them through the roof for fees and charges. Do not use this company, it will mess with your credit history and cost you an arm and a leg in the long run. Don’t take a loan out with this company no matter how desperate you are

Applied and recieved an email telling me "Good news!" I had passed the important phase for approval of a small loan and to await a phone call (number provided) to ensure I answer before midday. Never came. Instead I get an email informing me that they are unable to help this time and apply again in 3 months.👎👎👎👎👎 Funny how they can break all the rules and have standards in responsible lending but apparently not for people who need help in a bind.

Frustrating Experience with Loan Application
I recently applied for a loan through “City Finance”, and I must say that my experience has been thoroughly disappointing and frustrating. I believe it's important to share my concerns to help others make an informed decision about whether to proceed with this company.
From the very beginning, I was led to believe that the loan application process would be efficient and transparent. The representative assured me that I would receive updates about my application status in a timely manner. However, the reality could not be further from the truth. It has become painfully clear that there is a significant lack of communication from the company.
To make matters worse, I was specifically told that I would receive a call within four hours of submitting my application — a promise that has yet to come to fruition. Instead of receiving proactive updates, I find myself having to call customer service repeatedly, only to encounter vague answers and a complete lack of accountability. This is far from the standard of service that one would expect from a reputable financial institution.
The frustration of having to chase down information that should be readily available is exhausting. Not only does it waste my time, but it also raises serious doubts about the company's commitment to customer service. It feels as if my application has disappeared into a void, with no one willing to take responsibility for providing updates or assistance.
If you are considering applying for a loan with “City Finance”, I urge you to rethink your decision. This experience has been a testament to how poorly they handle client communications and customer care. The assurances that were given to me during the application process have not been honored, leaving me feeling disregarded and unvalued as a prospective client.
In conclusion, I am urging “City Finance” to re-evaluate their communication strategies and processes. The way they treat their clients — or lack thereof — is incredibly frustrating and may deter others from seeking financial assistance through their services. For those in need of a loan, I recommend looking elsewhere, as this experience has demonstrated that “City Finance” may not be equipped to provide the support you require.
so update, I messaged city finance and a customer representative name Gemma connected with me via chat, she said hello at 15:22 I sent my message to her, and over an hour later there was no response or acknowledgement to my messages at all! Which just confirms that this company does not value customer service at all, well Gemma does not basic on my experience
