Stay away from Chessbazaar!!!
Hi All.
I just purchased a chess box from chessbazaar, the price was about 65€. Fair enough. I received the item about a week later, and with great disappointment the quality was simply miserable. The lining inside the box is all wrinkly and partially glued, and the lid is too small to keep the box closed. Simply a disaster.
I called and the gelnteman on the phone told me to qwrite an email with pictures. Which I did.
The answer I got was simply RIDICULOUS!!
After asking to have the item refunded... I simply got no answer.
NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS PEOPLE!!
There a lot of MUCH BETTER Chess shops around. My suggestion is simply to Stay Away from Chessbazaar.

I just received the item M0081 from Order #000127218 (Tournament Chess Storage Box in Sheesham Wood for up to 3.8" Chess Set).
Unfortunately I am really disappointed by the very poor quality of the item, considering its high price.
The box doesn’t close properly, in fact the lid is so narrow that it does not engage the slits on the box sides. Also the lining is only partial and badly glued inside the box. Ugly ugly.

the storage box which you have purchased from us against order number 000127218 is of Sheesham solid wood and a 100% handmade product and it is very difficult for us to standardize like any mass-produced product.
However, our carvers try their level best to achieve as much depth as possible. It's the design of the storage box, which can not be considered a warranty claim.

My answer was: "Gentlemen,
a box that doesn’t close is a faulty box. If your carvers try their best… well, I am sorry but it is merely a problem that you have to solve with your carvers.
If it’s a matter of design, well my modest suggestion is to design a better box… I am an engineer myself.
I am not talking about standardizing, I am talking about making a box that can stay closed. And the fact that it is mass produced as you say, doesn’t have to make it a bad product.
I can see that the product is expensive for what it is, and it is the result of very sloppy work, and will due respect, your justification is quite pointless to me.
Please do what every business man will do with an unsatisfied client, before the client gets very angry. And please do it without arguing an obvious fault. Please refund the product and we close it here.
Please let me know."

I wouldn´t recommend buying here
The warranty is just high-sounding text, if you receive a damaged chessboard. It will not be replaced, keep it in mind when buying a chessboard.
But..... (You MUST read here below before buying)
Chessboard are incredible expensive. The sell Rechapados Ferrer chessboards which in Europe you find for about 50-100 euro (depending on the size)
They sell exact the same chessboard for 250 euro. In some cases is almost five times the commercial price here in Europe.

I bought a set of pieces from the company chessbazaar, whose model consisted of the
Staunton Chess Pieces in Sheesham & Box Wood - 3" King, manufacturer's model - IM477.
Due to the company's incompetence, they sent me the pieces without the weight,
However as shown in the advertisement, as follows:
"The chess pieces offers a 3" King with a diameter of 1.2" and all chess pieces are weighted by adding a stud of iron within the base. Each of the chess pieces has thick green felt on its base. The dark chess pieces are made of Sheesham Wood and the lighter chess pieces are made of Boxwood.
In conclusion, the company was notified and apologized but no further procedure proceeded, in other words, it gave little importance to the consumer.
So it's a warning, beware ChessBazaar!

First; I was told that you do not accept returns of

My board (Order #000125601) was not
bought as a slightly imperfect item,
which means that it cannot be exempted from the life long guarantee and the right to
have it replaced.
Fourth: Why am I writing about this all over again?
This morning I had the board examined by a cabinetmaker.
He was was quite stunned over the number of defects on
this board.
Sunday and Monday I sent some images to Mayank Gupta,
that showed some of the defects, but:
The long white scratches alog the of the sides of the board
turned out to be not scratches but 10"-11" regular cracks
0.03 deep.
It is not natural behaviour of wood to crack this much
unless it has not been properly matured and dryed before manufacture.
Cracked wood should not be used as material in the
manufacturing process - which he meant was the case with
my board.
My cabinetmaker found it odd that the wood in several
places seemed not to be ebony but dyed wood (where the
dye had not soaked properly into the wood) This is also
shown on my images.
He checked the veneer on the c5 square (that is black
which makes it much easieer to see this crack) that had a
crack. He said that the veneer in this square would not last
for more than 2-3 years and neither will the veneer in 5
other squares he detected.
The only way I can keep the board longer is to have it either
replaced (which you refuse to allow me to do) or have it
repaired which my cabinetmaker cannot do for less than
$450-$500 (our pricelevel is much higher than yours in India, I suppose)
Why is it that your conpany simply refuse to accept the fact
that some unfortunate mistake has occured. This may
happen to any company, but it grows worse when it is not
corrected properly.
In the "Why Chessbazaar"-section you state: "we make
sure that no compromises are made when it comes to
quality or customer services. At chessbazaar our top priority is always complete customer satisfaction."
I fail to see how these statements complies to what I have
eperienced these past few days.
I therefore suggested a compensaton of
$100 to cover the expenses for the cabinetmaker. an amount that , as it turned out, was unfortunately not sufficient.
It is sad to see a company having such good product refuse to admit to an error an today I got a message compelling me to "accept a low compensation and oblige.... " not especially polite
Great save from an unlucky start
I bought the Excalibur Luxury Artisan Piece in june and was told to wait for about 3-4 weeks. Unfortunately the wait kept on and I ended up waiting 3,5 months.
- This was of course not very satisfying.
However the service has been absolutely brilliant and Chess Bazaar was very sorry for the unusual long waiting period and gave me an exceptional good price on a storage box. The pieces are absolutely astonishing and a masterpiece. Shipping was only 6 business days from India to Denmark and in very good packaging.
