I recommend Byron gundog training 100% - both of my dogs have come on leaps and bounds from the Sunday group classes, which are challenging yet super fun and engaging for dog and handler. They cater for everyone across all levels, and are suitable for pets, working pets, working dogs and those wanting to compete in working tests etc. everyone is welcome!! I have also benefitted from 1-1 teaching on specifics, and the workshops are brilliant for getting right into the detail of real life scenarios I.e hunting, and the holidays are great for spending time training with like minded people - great fun. The trainers are brilliant, personable, approachable with expertise across breeds, which is great, as we know they are all very different! The grounds they use are wonderful with a mixture of cover, grass and woodland and prepare you for getting out and about with your dog. Come join us!

Took my 12 month old lurcher for a one on one session a few weeks ago with Thea.
It was fantastic everything we did got my dogs attention and she absolutely loved it and we both learned so much.

Darren is hands down the best puppy and gundog trainer we've ever worked with. The puppy classes were incredibly informative, and what really sets Darren apart is his ongoing support, he's always happy to help with any questions or challenges along the way.

We also did a month of one-on-one training after our first pup completed the foundation class, and it made a huge difference. Our 9-month-old Schnauzer is now wonderfully well-behaved, calm, and gentle, a real credit to Darren’s guidance.

Our newest puppy, now 4 months old, will be starting puppy classes this week and we’re confident she’s in the best hands. We can’t recommend Darren and the team at Byron’s Gun Dogs highly enough, although, we have to admit, our favourite member of the crew is Byron himself (Darren’s dog)!

Darren is a fantastic dog trainer and definitely has a way with dogs. We are now going to progress onto the gundogs for beginners course. I would 100% recommend.

Darren was fabulous introducing us to training and so helpful in between classes with any issues we were having or if we had forgotten the steps he'd shown us in class. He really ensured different breeds got the correct training for each exercise - it was not a one size fits all approach.

A fabulous introduction to training our puppy. Just completed the puppy foundation course. Enough to continue at home with practicing the basics and we’d have a great trained dog. We will however be going back to do the puppy advanced course to really cement and keep me accountable and on the ball with the training. I found the WhatsApp group really useful for queries/advice in between classes too and now we’ve graduated there’s the community page still there for continued advice and tips. Would highly recommend- they know their breeds, mine is not a gun dog breed! Darren really ensured each owner knew the right way to get the best results from their pups. I have been attending Byron Gundog Training classes since May 2024. My focus has been on Gundog training, with the view of working my dog at local shoots and working my way through working test competitions, through the Field Trial Management Systems. This has been the most amazing dog training experience of a life time for me and my VERY excitable and energetic Labrador, Dexter. We have worked our way through Basics, Intermediate and Advanced Gundog Training. The trainers, Darren (Company owner) Thea and Mark are all equally brilliant. They are so professional, but very relaxed and incorporate much fun in the training process. They are great communicators, so the lessons are clearly delivered, engaging and varied. The trainers offer alternatives to suit the breed and most of all the confidence that with the persistence and techniques taught we would get there and Dexter is well on his way. The smaller class sizes are great for sharing experiences whilst also seeing lots of different dog behaviour and an expert to guide you. When you practice what you have learnt between classes, this makes all the difference. The dogs adore their training experience and there is nothing more rewarding than starting to realise your dog’s potential and build a strong bond with them.The sessions are always engaging and good fun. I can’t wait to take Dexter on his first shoot in the autumn of this year.

Byron Gundog training has grown from strength to strength during the last 12 months and has extended the range of training courses and number of classes available, due to popular demand. Once a month from spring until late autumn, there are a wide range of 4 hour workshops available, including Retrieving, Scurries, Water, Beating and Hunting Workshops. All of which I have attended, which are well organised, structured and great fun. Not forgetting the fabulous venues that allow for all sorts of training.

I have no hesitation in awarding 5 Stars. I cannot recommend Byron Dog Training enough to anyone, from a dog owner who just aims for having a fun and well behaved pet Gundog, or to someone who has aspirations to work towards Gundog Trials.

Less than 5 minutes into our session Cub was trotting round on a loose lead like a Labrador rather than the bulldozer mode he arrived in. Then Bear had his turn and also did very well. Darren had some really good tips for helping to keep the training going at home. I’d been rather anxious about the first session but now I’m looking forward to the next.

We brought our 2 dogs to the puppy classes which were really helpful in their development. They have moved on to having one on ones with Darren as well as gun dog classes. We have been thrilled with how well they have come on. Can not recommend how much the training has helped them and us!

I am near the end of my first block of 1:1 with Darren. Fergus has responded so well and it is nice to see that he IS ABLE and it's my communication and boundaries that I need to work on consistently.. It is such a joy going out and about with Fergus now, training together and just having fun with him, rather than him just heading out to where ever his nose drags us! Thank you so much for your patience, empathy and knowledge Darren... I hope to join the group classes at some point to help keep ME on track!

Fun and informative classes, Darren is extremely knowledgeable and helpful providing plenty of support and takeaways for you and your dog both in the classes and for homework/practice, my puppy has learnt so much already!

We have now had around 4 sessions with Darren to help us establish good behaviour routines with our new Parson Russell Terrier. Darren has a wonderful calm and knowledgeable approach. He has been such a godsend with advice about what to focus on in the vitally important first year of our puppies development. We have one more session to complete our block of five one to ones, we found the flexibility and ease of booking was superb for us. Darren’s system is very efficient and has made the process of booking and rearranging when needed stress free. We would heartily recommend Darren to any owners in a similar position to us. We are extremely grateful for all his support. So glad we chose him!

My one-to-one sessions with Darren have been very helpful so far. I am keen to overcome my 2yr old Labrador’s excitability and reactivity around people and other dogs… Darren is calm and patient and takes time to explain the training methods that he teaches. I feel I am gaining a better understanding of how to communicate more effectively and clearly with my dog in order to achieve the behaviour that I want and expect. Thanks to Darren I feel confident that in time I will be able to relax and enjoy walks with my dog in communal areas without being pulled all over the place and feeling constantly anxious.
