BG Electrical Omdömen 

I purchased a pack of five BG 900 series twin switched 13A outlets from Screwfix and returned them same day due to extremely poor design and quality. I've never encountered anything this poor. The first plug I tried into a socket simply refused to go in at first. After a struggle it did. I tried other different mains plugs and they ranged from near impossible to very difficult. The reason is the plastic 'opener' used to operate the shutters protecting the live and neutral openings, one attempt at inserting a plug distorted and partially destroyed this plastic part that opens the shutter. I tried another of the twin sockets. Exactly the same. All were returned and I also took along some different mains plugs to the store so they could test them for themself. I think they were sceptical at first, I know I would have been but they tried and agreed the plugs did not go in and when they did it damaged the socket. I then took the plugs and tried them in a socket in the store to show and prove to them that the plugs were not at fault. They agreed there was a problem. I came away with some Hagar branded sockets instead. The staff at the store tried my plugs in these and as anyone would expect, they were perfect.

The indoor sockets have been amazing for us. I have ADHD and am terrible for leaving things on. With the smart sockets we can easily rectify this. Renovating our house on a budget means we are changing the sockets slowly, however at present they have been incredibly helpful.

If only there was something to blow out candles I had forgotten about...

Purchased outdoor socket with timer. Timer started running slow after a month and now doesn't work at all. No response from BG electrical, despite several attempt to contact them. Customer service non-existent. Wish I had looked at Trust Pilot first.

Installed two BG outside sockets both same problem when you try tighten the 4 plastic retaining screws the plastic hook too soft and won’t grip making the seal impossible.
Don’t buy them invest in a more expensive product with proper screws to get a good solid watertight fit.

I have just purchased a BG smart socket from Toolstation. The socket is well built and quite easy to install. The socket is a bit of a pain to get the app to work after four or five attempts of trying to get the app to work, I deleted the app re-downloaded the app from the QR code on the internal paperwork and this worked a lot better. The socket has good range and has a lot of good functions built into it the socket also fits in a IP 66 waterproof socket.

Purchased a smart outdoor socket.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS. It is the worst bit of any ‘smart’ device you could wish to purchase. Spent endless time trying to connect to this thing. 4 calls to tech support revealed a lack of instructions supplied with it regarding setup. I’m quite savvy with this sort of thing but this piece of garbage has beaten me. Switched my router settings to 2.6ghz as instructed by teck man, switched Bluetooth off as advised by another teck. Tried a phone/ipad hotspot rather than WiFi directly. NOTHING WORKS.
I don’t know what is at fault, the device ( but device did appear in my network list at some point so it was obviously detected), the app or it’s not very compatible with an iPhone 16 or all 3
I will be returning this cr*p back to Toolstation at my earliest convenience

British General Electrical? - Flimsy and Made in China!

Purchased a full house of BG screwless sockets and switches in brass. I’ve now had 5 switches fail on me for bedrooms leaving me not been able to turn them on and off. 16 months old and no longer under warranty. Absolute waste of money and time for paying for an electrician to swap everything again. Avoid this company at all costs. Clearly a design fault.

I had an issue with my ISP and they swapped out my router. As it retained the same SSIDs and passwords all my devices reconnected with the exception of the Dual BG Smart Socket. That's the only reason I have not given a 5 star rating.

However the single biggest reason I am here today is to praise their support. UK Support line answered within 20 seconds by a "highly competent" young lady named Abby.

Hats off she got to the crux of the issue through a very logical series of steps. She quite clearly has a deep understanding of the product and it's connectivity with Android and Apple handsets.

She instilled confidence from the outset with her patient and logical approach and got it working first time.

Asset to the company and well done BG for having a UK Support line.

I have 10 BG Double Sockets throughout my house. My opinion is not to go near them. They are unpredictable and unreliable, hard to connect and overall infuriating.
I placed most of the sockets in hidden socket areas e.g behind tvs. When the internet is turned off and back on again the sockets will not reconnect. You have to reinstall the lot of them which takes hours because of the trouble connecting to the internet no matter how close they are to the modem. They often connect you to a sub group but if anything happens to the main socket all your sockets go down as well. These were to be convenient products but have turned into nightmares. Contacting the BG helpdesk is a waste of more of your time. Go back to the old sockets is my best advice.

Awful product socket wont connect. Stay well away from this product now i need to disconnect and send bacl for a refund what a complete waste of time

Heat Pump requires a special RCBO don’t bother asking BG for advice just guess it haha I kid you not.

Just purchsed the outdoor smart socket. Easy to install. The App BG home wont download as error states it was built for an older version of andriod. The BG smart home app wont allow you to connect to a wifi device. Checked youtube and other support. Nothing. Now need to remove and send back for refund. Save yourself time and dont purchase this product

Socket constantly loses connection with WiFi for no reason. Customer service at BG pretty poor. Won't buy their products again

have had 10 double sockets fitted just over a year ago. 2 failed within 1st month and now another 2 have failed after just over a year. this is also with minimal use in a 2 person household

Bought a BG Electrical wifi extender. Doesn’t work. Followed instructions several times, asked BG for help but still no good and no response.

Don’t buy.
