They are bad conveyancers for Millenials
They are conveyancers for Millenials: they cut-and-paste material into dense, lengthy emails without bothering to sift out the stuff that actually matters. They will link to the law society website as an explanation… but you can’t read it unless you sign up as a user of the law society. It’s free, but why can’t you just provide the information first hand?! Communications are via video calls. Emails to them are left unanswered for long periods: up to 3 working days if you go the “fast track” route, up to 6 for the standard route. 6 working days of course means potentially 8 calendar days. Just to say “Thanks for your email”! When selecting a route “speed” you think you’re controlling how fast you want conveyancing to happen, but they’ve conflated that into a general “how fast do we have to reply to this chap” switch as well. Complain about it and they’ll refer you to introductory documents that you’re deemed to have read in detail, despite them being in multiple tens of pages (and multiple documents) all dumped on you at once.
Emails, when they come, are riddled with typos and acronyms without explanation. Maybe we all ought to know what “AML” means as a matter of reflex, but why can’t they just type it out so I don’t have to play puzzle games! It all came across as unprofessional to me, anyway.
There is no hand-holding for those unfamiliar with the process. There’s a website, which merely overwhelms and is pointless to anyone not understanding what’s going on.
I don’t know how good they are at the actual business of lawyering: we never got that far. There is far too little customer care, and quite a lot of hiding behind technology. You ask for a little more consideration and you’re essentially told the volume of work means you’ll get what you’re given. I parted company with them today, they are that bad. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole, unless you’re a Millenial that prefers technology over personal communication.

Thank you for taking the time to set out your experience, and for speaking with me directly this week as well. I'm sorry to read that the process left you feeling this way — that's not the standard we hold ourselves to.
On communication and response times: we offer clients a choice of email updates or a bookable call slot with their conveyancer, so that when you do speak to us, it's dedicated time rather than being kept on hold. That option remained available to you throughout, and I understand phone reception on your end made ad hoc calls difficult — the booked slots don't depend on that. You let us know you preferred email, which is entirely your choice, but it does mean our email turnaround applied rather than a phone conversation. I'm sorry if that distinction wasn't clear at the time.
On the queries raised before your contract pack was issued: some of what you were asking about wasn't yet available to answer at that stage of the transaction, which I appreciate is frustrating when you're keen to keep things moving, however it is out of our control.
On the format of our emails: these follow a standardised structure so that the legal information in them is accurate and consistent across every case — it's not a shortcut, it's there to make sure nothing is missed. I'm sorry if that came across as impersonal rather than thorough.
On AML: these are Anti-Money Laundering checks, required by government regulation on every property transaction, not something specific to you. I'm sorry the term wasn't set out in that way on each of our email responses however it was defined in our communication to you.
On video calls: this is a deliberate part of how we work, not a substitute for care. It lets us share and review documents with you in real time and keeps a clear record of what's been discussed and agreed, which protects you as much as us. I understand it isn't the right fit for everyone, which is exactly why, when we spoke, we agreed a smaller local high-street firm offering more in-person contact would suit you better.
On being told you'd get "what you're given": that doesn't reflect how we operate or how our conversation went. You advised you would like immediate replies to emails. Due to the nature of conveyancing and the detail needed to draft responses, especially to longer emails sent to us, we need time to review to be able to give accurate and clear responses.
I'm glad we had the chance to talk this through, and that we could agree on a way forward that better suits how you like to work. I wish you well with your move.

Reliable and responsive solicitor
We used AVRillo for our house sale and ongoing purchase at the recommendation from our estate agent; Robinson Jackson, they were very good and responsive over email and made us feel reassured when we experienced difficulties with our chain.
The only downside is that there was no direct number to speak to your dedicated agent, you had to book a call surgery via their website which often didn’t have same day call back availability, however, our dedicated solicitor; Emily and Ella we’re very responsive over email thankfully and did often call us back when we requested over email in the time sensitive moments of our sale.
Overall a great solicitor, would recommend!

The buying process did go quite smoothly. Some of the legal jargon was quite confusing at times, but the call surgery was very useful and Sarah was able to explain and put my mind at rest.
