Installation error caused a false alarm
The technician was prompt and efficient. However, there was one major problem. Shortly after he left, we left the house and set the alarm. The technician had not actually done a full test of setting the alarm and waiting through the full cycle until it was fully set. This turned out to be a significant error. While we were driving from our house. we got a call from the police, saying that our alarm was on. We returned to the house to turn it off. Then we called American Alarm to send the technician back to fix whatever caused the false alarm. He was able to come within an hour because he was still in the neighborhood, and after some troubleshooting discovered that, according to him, he had installed the wrong resistor for one of (or both of?) the glass break detectors. He replaced the incorrect part with the correct part, and it worked after that. This resulted in our receiving a warning from the Brookline Police that we had exceeded the number of allowed false alarms and that we would be fined for any more false alarms. So far, we haven't had any more, but if for any reason we have one, due to equipment failure or our error, we will pay a fine. We like American Alarm, but we encourage more careful post-installation testing by technicians
