Excellent Tuition for 11+
We have just received the news that our child secured a place at the Grammar school we were hoping to get. We want to thank the lovely teachers at AE for all the hard work they've put in. We want to thank Dr Curran, management and all AE staff. The latter part of the tuition was via zoom and online learning due to lockdown rules. AE tuition responded to lockdown challenges promptly and adjusted to new ways of working. Even during a difficult time, they delivered excellent services and we are so thankful.
We have no hesitation in saying that our child received the best possible tuition for 11+ and wholeheartedly recommend AE Tuition. Thank you

Very good teaching for 11+
Very good teaching for 11+. Did lots of sample exam papers via online teaching during Lock down.
We found the online resources for the practice papers and answers very useful. Taught by experienced teachers. I would highly recommend this course for 11 +.

I would highly recommend based on our experience, my daughter has cleared the Grammar schools and Private school exams and the full credit goes to AE. We were quite impressed by AE Tuition especially during the lockdown, they conducted the online lessons without interruption, the amount of test papers and books provided are superb (second to none). AVOID
AVOID. Worst Experience for 11+ Preparation in 2020. Issues:
1. Only 2-3 good teachers, rest below average
2. Very difficult to get a slot with good teacher
3. Remote learning has made their 2-3 good teachers even not good enough
4. Conceptually faulty as the teacher leaves everything to Teacher Assistants who are young students themselves
5. No teaching of content, just loads of books to do by oneself. There is absolutely little to no learning
6. Expensive and inflexible
7. Non-refundable registration fees so even if you leave them with proper notice they dont refund the registration fees
8. No point of going on "Waiting list as you will not get a slot with your preferred teacher. Also they dont put on Waiting list until you have paid registration fees and joined with one of their below average teachers

We always encourage our parents to let us know as soon as possible if they have any concerns, in order that we may address them. It's important to us that we have a good communication with parents to ensure we can enhance children’s educational performance.
Here is our response to your comments:
1. All our teachers are experienced and qualified. The quality of the teaching at AE Tuition Ltd is imperative, this is why we only employ highly qualified and experienced teachers.
2. We do understand it can sometimes be difficult to secure the slot you would like. This is either down to a teacher being very popular or it being at a time of day that many parents want. We do give parents plenty of warnings when new courses are live on our website and we recommend parents to book as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.
3. We appreciate that remote learning, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been difficult for some children, however we want to reassure all parents that the quality of the teaching has not altered. We have invested in broadcast quality films of lessons and Zoom sessions with a teacher and a full complement of staff to deliver the material. To enable this to happen AE Tuition invested in 150 laptops, 300 cameras and nearly 400 headsets, and the infrastructure and connectivity was upgraded in all three tuition centres. These changes were implemented in four months and all our staff were also trained.
4. Both the teachers and Classroom Assistants are experienced in delivering the AE Tuition programmes and have received extensive training.
5. We have our own publications team who produce high quality and detailed books to support the AE Tuition programme. Pupils benefit from up to £630 worth of teaching materials to support them in their learning.
6. Our courses give value for money. AE Tuition has over 30 years of experience in delivering outstanding tuition. Our results speak for themselves with 87% pass rate for those attending an 11+ Year 5 one year course and 94% pass rate for those attending a Pre-Plus Year 3 & Pre-Plus Year 4 course prior to joining 11+ Year 5 course.
7. We don't charge a registration fee. I believe you may be referring to a deposit that secures a child's place. Parents tend to pay their fees in monthly instalments, taking advantage of our interest free payment scheme. If they choose to cancel the course they will need to give a month's notice and there is no change beyond this period. As with most deposits, it is non-refundable. Parents are made aware of this numerous times when they enrol their child on a course.
8. Most of this point has been responded in point 2. Pupils cannot join our courses halfway through the programme because they would not be able to catch up. If a parent wants their child to be in a class which is fully booked, we advise the parent to join another class and add their child on the waiting list for their preferred class. The customer service team contact the parents when spaces are available.
We hope these answers to your points are helpful. As mentioned at the beginning of this message, if you wish to discuss your points in more detail we would welcome a call. It's important to us we have a great relationship with our parents to help children excel in their 11+ exams.

AE books are good for preparing kids for 11+ exams and easy to understand since they the basic knowledge about the chapter before asking the question and makes kids understand what to do and help them to practice the lessons.

We have noted your review and were saddened to read your negative comments, which are untrue and we utterly refute. For over 30 years we have been providing tuition for children preparing for their 11+ exams and delivering Key Stage 2 and 3 tuition very successfully.
Your child’s tuition was temporarily withdrawn due to missed and then late payment of fees. This was after repeated attempts to resolve the issue beforehand by our customer service team. Our tuition centre staff have also reported that they were spoken to in an abusive and threatening manner by yourself. This will not be tolerated on any future occasion. We have done all we can to resolve the situation amicably and your child will be able to proceed with their tuition, as we can now confirm that the late payment was received, although it was made after the deadline that was clearly set.

Good but Stressful
AE Tuition is a good idea, and it does aim to teach your children very well, but it can get extremely stressful and more than once we have found that the assistants teaching the children often know less about it than they do and the kids sometimes have to teach them!

Why 1 star (not 4 star)
We considered a range of tuition centres/tutors for our child. Having done our research, we selected AE based on glowing recommendations we read on Trust Pilot and heard from friends whose children had been through the courses.
Until CV-19, the provision for years 4 & 5 was very good. Up to this point, we would have rated it 4 stars. We worked exceptionally hard to secure the best teachers - booking is a nightmare - and they certainly delivered.
This is in stark contrast to TAs, who were often taught by my child rather than the other way around! I was forewarned about this - to ensure I did ALL corrections with my child and not to rely on TAs. After all, they are just slightly older children themselves with variable levels of ability. Select few were helpful, most were not. I would have to re-run through aspects I had highlighted for them to cover as they had not been able to explain things to my child. This is the reason why I would have rated 4 stars.
Unfortunately, AE has been unwilling and unable to adequately adapt to these very difficult circumstances - both from a technological and teaching perspective. At any time when suggestions were made from parents about how to improve the experience or provision, there was a flat ‘no’ in response.
I’m not aware of a single tuition centre/tutor who has not adapted to live online teaching. Instead, AE doggedly pursued its decision to produce videos with no ability for interaction or engagement. My child switched off. Their results plummeted with no accountability to a teacher. All of the benefit of excellent teaching evaporated.
My child didn’t see or speak to their teacher for months. AE didn’t even bother to ask parents to report results from class or test work to track our child’s progress in order to pick up if anything was array, which it was. When this was pointed out, there was no assistance to help the child course correct.
AE insisted its teachers could not teach live online for a variety of spurious reasons. This is in contrast to many schools and tuition centres that did successfully. Our child’s school, IT team and teachers understandably had a lot of trepidation about undertaking this huge endeavour. Yet, they put in practice the growth mindset they preach and promptly got on with the task. They used the Easter break to pivot and up-skill. Yes, there were teething problems. Teaching 40 children live through online technology with a live projector, virtual whiteboard and posting work online for checking throughout the class had its challenges. Yet the school, teachers, parents and children all quickly overcame these together. We all came out better for it with our children having a positive experience of seeing and interacting with their teachers and peers, having live lessons and continuing to progress at a good rate.
AE eventually procured laptops and technology to allow for live online teaching though zoom. We breathed a sigh of relief. Again, unfortunately, this was put in place months later with 2 weeks left to run of the course AND, whilst the class teacher was present, only TAs were expected to teach. This set up should have been done far quicker and was too tardy to be of benefit in mid-July. There was no reason why the teachers could not have taught live online when everything was (finally!) set up for success, especially for summer courses. It was AE’s stubborn refusal to offer this service provision.
AE insists on all work being done, marked and corrected in a timely manner. With a rigorous programme of classwork and testpacks to complete, in some cases, videos for these testpacks were not put up for months after the week they were set. There are 3 AE centres, unlimited number of video production companies and a large body of teachers but, apparently, only classwork videos could be filed as a priority (when it all should have been done concurrently).
AE promised to support these poor children (who have missed school at a pivotal time and missed high quality AE face to face teaching) until their exams in Oct/Nov, however, all videos will be taken down at the end of August. It would be a great way to support these children and parents to leave the testpack videos up for a second or third review of difficult questions. Apparently, AE are not prepared to bear the cost of IT investment to create a new or adapt the existing summer secondary portal to allow for this facility.
Overall, a demonstrable lack of agility, ingenuity and modernisation. This has been a classic case of far too little, far too late.
I understand from AE this provision worked ok for some - good on them.
I have a request - AE please do not respond to this review. All feedback given was futile. We’re tired of hearing excuses, will continue to fend for ourselves with the 11+ process and do not wish to engage any further.

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear that you have not been happy with your experience of AE Tuition in these difficult months. I want to say thank you for carrying on with AE Tuition until your children finish their courses. I understand you don’t want us to respond to this review, however there are some points which need to be highlighted to show we’re working extremely hard to carry on delivering premium tuition for our pupils.
I understand that you have been in constant communication with the customer service team, our management team (and the Manager of our Langley centre has given additional support over the phone) and the founder of the AE Tuition, Dr Stephen Curran has had some correspondence with you.
When we first went into lockdown we knew live lessons using platforms such as Zoom would not be sufficient to deliver tuition to the standard we require (there is always a risk of bad quality vision, sound, or connection issues). Investment was needed to film our classes each week, at a professional broadcast level. Consequently, we have been working with a professional film crew for over 15 weeks to deliver all our lessons. In conjunction with the filmed lessons, all 2,000 pupils have had their books posted out on monthly basis for their lessons. This temporary way of working has been at a huge cost to the business. Our only goal has been to carry on delivering high quality tuition to all our pupils during this extraordinary time.
As always, we’ve had an open door policy with our parents. We have been in constant communication with parents and if there have been any issues we have done our best to rectify these straightaway.
To support pupils further in lockdown, we have now introduced Zoom one-to-one sessions using our classroom assistants. The vast majority of our classroom assistants have attended grammar schools and they have all done very well in their GCSE, A Level or degree level examinations. This means they understand the struggles that children are going through when facing these examinations and are able to mentor them. The classroom assistants are also trained by AE Tuition to ensure they can support children in AE methodology and practice.
Videos do need to be removed from the parent portal due to space. Also, by this point, pupils should have completed all the course sessions and any concerns or questions they may have had should have been addressed with a classroom assistant on a one-to-one basis. If there is a need for the teacher to intervene this could also occur and our teachers have been calling and talking to parents regularly.
As we were not able to operate one-to-one tuition to begin with we felt it was only fair to reduce the course fees by 25%. We are also running classes into the summer break and will be working with our year 5 children right up until their 11+ examinations in year 6, as a demonstration of our commitment to them. This will all be done for no extra cost.
We are doing everything possible to assist our pupils until their 11+ examinations have been completed. It’s imperative to us, in these difficult times, that our pupils have the best support in order that they might fulfil their potential when they sit the in their examinations in the autumn term.

Great service...
My son started attending AE tuition in Sep 2018 since he was in Year 4.
Initially during lockdown, as a parent was really concerned as to how he would receive 11 plus exam support, as he is taking these exams this year.
With this in mind, have been really impressed at how the Centre has supported him during this time. For example, as soon as the Centre started their online classes all the recorded lectures were posted in the parental portal. Also, all books were sent via special delivery and regular emails/video clips were posted by the Director to inform parents on how to further support their children further.
As a parent I am very happy with the service received from AE tuition. Courses are well planned as per the students’ need, with Teachers and assistants working with real expertise to support them. Should also mention here that parents were offered discounts during the lockdown period.
From my own personal experience, therefore, would highly recommend AE tuition, as they have been great during lockdown.

Extremely rude staff staff
Extremely rude staff, very much over rated and expensive. Costs keep going up each year but service going down. Have done little to support customers during the corona virus both Parents & pupils.
My recommendation is stay away you can find much better supporting and smaller companies at a fraction of the costs. Especially while lessons are not taking place, what is the point of paying large amounts of money without proper tuition.

We have worked extremely hard to give the same level of service whilst in lockdown via professional filmed classes each week for all our courses and sending books needed for every pupil on a monthly basis. Our prices for September have not increased and all classes will be filmed, with one to one support given via video conference until it's safe to be back in the classrooms. The structure and methodology of our courses have not changed, just the form of how we deliver them (virtually rather than in a classroom environment).
For courses over the lockdown period, we made a reduction of 25% in our fees. We have also committed to stay with the children we already have on year 3, 4 and 5 11+ courses at no extra fee should the exams be moved back, which we suspect will happen.

Been with AE Tuition with 2 previous boys and now currently third child.
Missed my payment because of the current restriction having lost job and income. told AE payment would be slightly delayed and wanted son to continue with course but they cancelled immediately without any understanding just because payment late. Where is the compassion in these uncertain times and after sending 3 children and recommending others.
By there own figure charge following

comes to 8,340,000.

Thanks for your email response. We are a having other requests from parents to reduce fees further or to cancel fees altogether.
We have already made a significant reduction of 25% in our fees in recognition that we cannot provide the normal tuition service. However, we are making and sending out broadcast quality videos and posting out all the books at considerable expense.
We have also committed to stay with the children we already have on year 3, 4 and 5 11+ courses at no extra fee should the exams be moved back, which we suspect will happen. If this does occur, this will be another loss the business will incur, as the newly enrolled students will start late.
For these reasons we have to operate within the criteria we have set out. We cannot means test every parent's situation and to be fair to everyone we have had to apply the same criteria. Businesses are making concessions at this time and we have done just that, but we cannot examine every case of financial hardship and make judgements about it.
