No air conditioning, faulty shower, undisclosed charges, complaint dismissed
I stayed at Whittlebury Park on 27-28 May 2026 (room 233), booked as a gifted voucher through Buyagift. There was no pre-arrival communication ahead of the stay.
The room had no air conditioning during hot weather, which made it impossible to sleep properly and left me with a headache the next day. The shower control was faulty, and the hotel's own maintenance team later confirmed it was substandard. I was also charged for slippers and robe hire without any prior disclosure of these costs, and check-out involved a confusing double process.
When I raised these issues formally, the hotel rejected the complaint at every stage. Classic British Hotels, the parent company, confirmed they had no operational responsibility and redirected me to Buyagift. Buyagift investigated on my behalf, but the venue rejected the complaint outright. Buyagift offered a £100 site voucher as goodwill, which I accepted, but this does not change my view of the stay itself.
For a venue marketed as a four-star spa hotel, the standard of both the room and the complaint handling was well below what any guest should reasonably expect.
