High Praise & Deep Despair. 6-9 September 2024
My wife & I arrived in London from Australia on 6 September and went to Vodafone (Strand) to get eSims for both our mobiles (iPhones). I was served by Alexandra (Transaction ID 701786 032 8422 20240906) who assured us that our new eSims would work with a hot spot. We didn't have our computer with us then so did not check the hot spot until the next day. The next day the phone hot spot (both phones) would not operate with our Mac computer. We returned to Vodafone (Strand) to see a new person who told us to go to Apple as it was not an eSim problem. To cut a long story short we spent 3 hours that day in Apple on a phone to some "Genius" in Eire without success & were told to return the next day with all plugs to allow a new operating system to be installed in our computer. The next day we returned to Apple and with various delays and meetings with "Genius" people spent over 5 hours to be told it was an eSim problem & to go back to Vodafone which we did 1 hour before closing (on the Sunday). We saw yet another person who assured us that the eSims were not meant to work with a hot spot. I insisted in a reload of the eSim in my mobile which totally wiped out my phone access to emails & my telephone phoning reception - I'm not sure whether this was vindictive or just a poor accidental reload. As the store was closing we were thrown out! Only one operating phone (my wife's) and mine completely useless.
We arrived back on the Monday morning at opening at 10:00 to be served by Alexandra again. She assured us that eSims did work with hot spots and with very very good grace proceeded to serve us to solve the problem. It was not easily solved as it took her 2 hours to find the problem with many iterations, and to fix it.
I want you to know that over those 4 days we interacted with about 10 people both in Apple at their Genius Bar and Vodafone and she was the only one who believed that there was a solution and proceeded to find that solution. She was fantastic and I have written to Apple to inform them of her abilities, and to point out their deficiencies. I am now writing to you to warn you of this so that if you want to keep Alexandra you should immediately promote her, or at least markedly increase her salary as I suspect Apple will want to employ her. If I lived in London I would be offering her a very good job as her personality, customer interaction, and above all knowledge and persistence in solving this issue were remarkable given our experience of both Apple & Vodafone with their other service people including the Apple Genius Bar people whom I have previously found (at least in Sydney) to be most knowledgeable.
I will not tell you how she solved the problem as I think that Vodafone should instruct all its employees about this issue as anyone who sells an eSim should understand how to set it up properly, & know that eSims do actually work for use as a hot spot. I recommend that you speak to Alexandra herself to get the solution and circulate that widely through your company.
So in summary I have given you 5 stars purely for Alexandra - the rest of the Vodafone interaction rated a 1 star performance with inaccurate information and distain for our problem which they clearly considered was none of their business.
