I had an extremely unpleasant experience at the Vodafone store on King’s Road, Chelsea, involving the Store Manager, Raul.
I had returned to the store following previous problems with a new Vodafone contract and Amazon Prime, which was included as part of my package. I was simply asking for help resolving an issue that another manager at the same store had previously tried to correct.
What shocked me was not the original mistake — mistakes happen — but Raul’s attitude towards me.
He was extremely loud, arrogant, condescending and demeaning, repeatedly reminding me that he was the manager, that he had worked there for many years, that he trained the staff and that he knew better. His manner felt less like speaking to an adult customer and more like reprimanding a child.
When I said that I had come for customer service and was not asking him for a favour, his response was extraordinary: he told me that he was not there to help, but to make money.
When I asked him to stop speaking to me so loudly and told him that I found his manner intimidating and demeaning, he did not de-escalate. Instead, he continued asserting his authority and ultimately told me, in substance, that if I did not like the way he spoke, I should not come to the store.
By this stage there were no other customers in the shop. There was no queue and no pressure whatsoever. A female employee was sitting nearby and witnessed the exchange.
I found the whole experience intimidating, humiliating and completely unacceptable, particularly from someone responsible for managing a Vodafone store and training other employees.
I have made a formal complaint to Vodafone and requested that the CCTV footage be preserved and reviewed.
A manager should set the standard for customer service. Telling a paying customer “I’m not here to help, I’m here to make money” says rather a lot about the standard I experienced at this store.

I'm giving 5 stars for the team at the King's Road Vodafone branch. They were helpful,efficient and patient. I was not in the best frame of mind when I visited, which was not their fault at all but the frankly terrible Vodafone website and phone team. They were kind when I was frustrated so while I wouldn't recommend Vodafone as a company the King's Road team did the company proud as an excellent customer service team and should be rerecognised.
