I am genuinely shocked that Vikingen Infinity Resort & Spa markets itself as a 5-star hotel. My experience was nowhere near 5-star standard and, frankly, was one of the worst holidays I have had.
The food was consistently poor in both quality and variety. What was even more concerning was the number of guests who appeared to become ill. During my stay, I witnessed children crying due to suspected food poisoning and saw ambulances being called to the hotel. This is not something anyone should ever expect to see while on holiday.
Food safety was another major concern. On more than one occasion, I encountered food at both the buffet and restaurant areas that appeared undercooked or raw when it should have been properly cooked. This significantly reduced my confidence in the hotel's food standards and made me reluctant to eat many of the meals on offer.
Cleanliness was also unacceptable. Upon arrival, I discovered what appeared to be blood stains on the curtain in my room. For a hotel claiming luxury status, this level of housekeeping is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about overall hygiene standards.
The service throughout the resort was disappointing. Staff often seemed uninterested in helping guests, and the overall customer service fell far below what would be expected from a genuine 5-star establishment.
Another issue was the way the hotel advertises its rooms. Based on my experience, many of the room categories appear to be virtually identical, with little to no meaningful difference other than the view and, in some cases, the addition of an extra bed. The hotel gives the impression that guests are paying for substantially different room types, but the reality did not match those expectations. This felt misleading and added to the overall disappointment of the stay.
While I will admit that some of the outdoor facilities were decent, they were nowhere near enough to compensate for the numerous issues elsewhere in the resort.
To make matters worse, basic amenities that are standard in many 4-star and 5-star hotels were missing. No bathrobes, no slippers, and not even a toothbrush kit were provided. On top of that, guests are expected to pay extra for Wi-Fi, which is frankly ridiculous for a hotel that claims to be a 5-star resort. Free internet access is a basic expectation in modern hotels, particularly those advertising themselves as luxury properties.
Overall, this hotel fails to deliver the standards it promises. Poor food, serious concerns about food safety, questionable cleanliness, inadequate service, misleading room descriptions, extra charges for basic services, and a lack of essential amenities made for a very disappointing stay. I would not return and cannot recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a genuine 5-star holiday experience.
