50th Celebration Not great
I recently visited the Tylney Hotel for a weekend celebration of a friend's 50th birthday and found the hotel itself to be truly beautiful, complemented by its stunning grounds. The check-in process was efficient; however, the room fell short of expectations, featuring outdated furniture and lacking a fridge, which was particularly inconvenient given the high temperatures during our stay. The bed mattress was unstable, leading to a somewhat uncomfortable experience, although the overall quality of the rooms was decent. Unfortunately, the service did not meet the anticipated standard; we were surprised to discover that a bread basket cost £7 despite having booked a half-board option, and the £50 allowance for dinner barely covered the overpriced meals, with portions proving to be disappointingly small. My lamb dish on the first night consisted of merely two bite-sized pieces for £42, and we endured a wait of nearly two hours for our food. Breakfast the following morning took an excessive 1.5 hours to arrive, with other guests receiving their meals ahead of us. Our dining experience on the second night was even more confusing, as our martinis were served in wine glasses due to a shortage of proper glassware, despite the high price of £19 for the cocktails. When we raised our concerns with management, we felt as though we were perceived as difficult guests, when in fact we were simply seeking reasonable service. Fortunately, on our final day, breakfast service was notably improved, and the team ensured that all our needs were met. Despite the challenges we encountered, we were fortunate to meet some wonderful staff and thoroughly enjoyed our time together as friends.
