An excellent tool for visually compelling timelines and plans
Office Timeline is an excellent tool for producing visually compelling timelines and plans. The presentation capabilities are the strongest suit of this PowerPoint Add-On. It is a valuable tool but does take some time to learn how to operate in order to generate the display qualities that you desire.
One major limitation which should be understood is the page sizing which is restricted by the MS PowerPoint page orientation / parameters.

Great experience
Once you get used to it, it is quite easy to use. it looks great for HL timelines. Only downfall is the amount of info that you can fit on a slide, which is a PowerPoint issue, not a timeline issue. Very happy over all.

The templates are not user friendly
The templates are not user friendly. Also I find it difficult to move the plan towards the top once it's completed. I would just like to move the whole thing around without having to re-do the boxes and everything else. It quite time consuming.

As for moving the timeline around, there is a drag and drop option available directly within Edit Timeline — you can see how it works here: https://support.officetimeline.com/rearrange-tasks-by-dragging-and-dropping . This should allow you to reposition everything without having to redo any of the boxes or elements, which should save you a lot of time.

Download and setup was simple.
I used Office Timeline at my previous job and have gotten use to the differences between editing an Office Timeline slide and a regular PowerPoint slide. Once you are comfortable with that it is a breeze to setup and maintain. I love the new features, with actual vs. planned and the timeline edit is much improved over a couple of years ago. Also, so many new templates to choose from. My co-workers at my new job are very impressed with the professional timelines I am able to produce.

Mac Compatibility
Would be great if there was mac compatibiity. I am struggling with basic connection to Jira with the web app (your team is helping me! 5 stars for them).

We'd like to shed some light on the compatibility side — we do support Mac, however the add-in is built for Windows only, so the Online version would be the right fit for you.
We also noticed you've been trying the Online version and ran into an issue — we're already working on getting that sorted so you can get back on track.
Since the add-in license you recently purchased isn't compatible with Mac, we'd be happy to process a refund and help you get set up with an Online license instead — just let us know if that works for you!

The Edit timeline feature is actually…
The Edit timeline feature is actually so good. you drag things around and the dates just... update. dependencies follow along, you can see planned vs actual, critical path is right there. And you can add a new swimlane project directly on the timeline which sounds small but saves me every single day. not much else to say, it just works.

Smartsheet works great with Office Timeline
I've mainly used the Smartsheet for tracking items/initiatives and the Office Timeline for the presentation part. Having them connected simplifies things and makes sense. I just pull it in and with a bit of time, tweaking the colors, formatting, and voilà the slides look right an ready to go.
It's one of those things you don't really think about once it's set-up, saving you time throughout the day.

At the moment, the PowerPoint add-in isn’t compatible with macOS (including Parallels or other virtual environments). For Mac users, we usually recommend Office Timeline Online since it runs in the browser, though it does have a different feature set than the add-in.
We also really value your suggestion around linking plan and actual data from different sheets — thank you for calling that out.

Easy to use but limited features
It was easy to use. The templates are helpful too. However, I wish more templates are available in the Office Timeline Add-in Plus subscription, including Planned vs Actual feature. I have these accessible in my Smartsheet subscription so most of the time, I use Smartsheet for these instead of the Office Timeline.

Poor Features for MAC Users with Online Version
What could be a powerful visual tool but needs more development work and support. Login for Online Timeline needs a refresh every time you login (Having to delete cookies is not a fix nor been asked to wait a while and refresh the page). You need to manually save every time you edit or lose data (very strange you would think save is automatic). There are more MAC users in the market and Online Timeline has bare bone features and not as powerful as the App and Desktop version which is only available for Microsoft users.
