My experience with this mortgage…
My experience with this mortgage company has been absolutely dreadful. What should have been a straightforward process turned into an incredibly stressful and frustrating experience because of the constant delays, poor communication, and terrible customer service.
Getting updates has been difficult, and the lack of clear information and timely responses has made an already stressful situation even worse. It is unacceptable to leave customers waiting for long periods without proper explanations or reassurance, especially when something as important as a mortgage is involved.
The level of customer service has been extremely disappointing. I expected professionalism, support, and clear communication, but instead I have been left frustrated, stressed, and deeply unhappy with how everything has been handled.
A mortgage is a major financial commitment, and customers deserve to be treated with respect and kept informed throughout the process. Unfortunately, my experience has fallen far below expectations.
I would not recommend this service based on my experience. If you value your time, peace of mind, and good customer service, think carefully before choosing this company. This has been an unnecessarily stressful experience, and the company seriously needs to improve its communication, efficiency, and treatment of customers.

Bethan and Team handled a complex admin exchange of selling my newish home in Abergavenny for a detached bungalow in Magor . Issues occurred due to the original home was on a Managed estate and the new home I took Equity on . The first 3 months were quiet and slow but all went well , with problems occurring over July and August , however just when it all could of gone wrong , Bethan stayed cool and professional when I was starting to get worried , and of course she pulled it off as we worked together as a team and made the buyers solicitor's go with it , One sell and buy completed . Thank you Bethan and team without you I could of lost all my hopes and wishes for the future

We often find that it can appear that matters begin slowly as the legal process is unable to start until the relevant draft Contract Pack and accompanying documents are collated and received. Thereafter, searches can be ordered and substantive reviews and reports are able to be provided to begin the process of enquiries to ensure that the property is both legally sound and of suitable security for any mortgage lender who is providing a mortgage over the property (if any).

The overall experience was fine
The overall experience was fine, but as a first time buyer the communication fell short of what I needed. I often felt unsure about the process and therefore asked a lot of questions. On occasion, the respond I got made me feel like an inconvenience and that I should know the answers.
One email hadn’t received a reply, so I called simply to find out where we were in the process. I received a short and blunt reply which left me feeling unsupported and unsure of what was happening next.
However, in the final two weeks before completion, I began communicating with Samantha. Samantha massively increased my experience with the company. She was polite, kind and efficient and always replied to my emails in a timely and professional manner.

A very helpful service
A very helpful service. We chose Newbold solicitors after using them for our first house purchase and also following the experiences of family members over the past few years who had used them for conveyancing services. They are a first class team and we found them easy enough to get hold of when we needed to discuss matters if not by phone then by email where responses were either same day or next day. Jacqui was very helpful and clear with the advice she gave, and made a great contribution to the smoothness of the move.

A stressful and disappointing experience
**Update following Newbold’s response**
My review was about how I was treated as a person. Their response focuses on policies, procedures and timescales rather than the behaviour I raised concerns about. I think that illustrates my point far better than I could have myself.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend Newbold Solicitors based on our experience.
Communication throughout was poor and telephone interactions were frequently abrupt, unfriendly and at times outright rude. As first-time buyers, we relied on our solicitor to explain the process, but we were often made to feel as though we should already know what was required rather than being guided through it.
I found Charlene particularly difficult to deal with. Her manner was argumentative and dismissive. During one conversation, I challenged that an important requirement had not previously been made clear to us. Rather than trying to resolve the issue, she argued that it had been explained and told me, “Well, everyone else understands that.” When I became upset after being told the issue could potentially affect our purchase, her response was, “Do you want to compose yourself and call me back?” I found the complete lack of empathy or reassurance quite shocking.
More generally, calling the office became something I dreaded. Staff often sounded irritated by questions, information wasn’t always explained clearly and we didn’t always receive the correct documentation. We also had to query unexpected additional costs during the process.
We already lived in the property and there was no onward chain, yet the purchase took far longer than expected. I considered changing solicitors but was concerned that doing so would cause further delays.
We were referred to Newbold by Mojo Mortgages, who were fantastic throughout, so unfortunately the contrast in service was significant.
Thankfully our purchase has now completed, but the experience was far more stressful than it needed to be and I would not choose to use Newbold Solicitors again.

We often find that any concerns can be addressed by explanation and that this can aide the understanding of the process and the parameters in which services are provided, especially for first time buyers who may be unfamiliar with legal services and be engaging with a legal process for the first time.
We have taken the time to look into your review and understand that you were not our client within the transaction and we are unable to see that concerns were raised with our team prior to your review to allow us opportunity to discuss these with you.
We note your comments regarding the duration of your transaction although wish to offer you assurances that the legal transaction actually proceeded sooner than the typical timescales for a transaction of its type (which we issued at the beginning of the transaction within our useful information document). The legal transaction itself took approximately 10 and a half weeks from receipt of the draft Contract Pack to conclusion and we have no concerns regarding the timescales which we consider to be very reasonable for the transaction type and complexities involved.
Whilst we appreciate you may have already lived at the property and may have been under your own or direct pressures to proceed as soon as possible, our work in acting for our client (and any mortgage lender) extends beyond an occupiers knowledge of the property and processing the transfer on an administrative basis. In dealing with the legal process we investigate the legal title and raise enquiries to clarify and obtain any further information as is necessary to ensure that the property title is legally sound and of suitable security for any mortgage lender. Our file shows this was undertaken and concluded promptly to allow the transaction to proceed in the timescales it did and that updates were provided at relevant intervals during the progression of the transaction.
We have provided your feedback to the team dealing with the matter in respect of how you felt during any interactions and offer our apologies on their behalf as the intention was certainly not to make you feel in the matter described. We are pleased however to hear that the team did not place pressure on the call and offered opportunity for a call back should the subject matter have been causing any concern.
We offer our apologies should our client have had any lack of understanding. We appreciate that everyone’s knowledge and understanding can vary and we endeavour to cater for all of our clients and offer extensive information within our initial correspondence to assist buyers of all experiences regarding expectations for the transaction. Should further assistance and explanation be requested (either generally or more specifically), our teams are more than happy to assist and work with clients to ensure their understanding.
We note the reference to unexpected additional costs and can confirm that any additional costs required to be applied due to the additional work warranted by the circumstances of the transaction (as referred to in our initial information) were communicated although additional costs also involved third-party costs which were unknown until legal investigations revealed their necessity for the transaction.
It is with regret that we did not have the opportunity to discuss any concerns prior to your review, however we hope the above has offered you reassurance in respect of how the transaction was progressed for our client, whilst recognising the matters which you have sought to bring to our attention as there was no genuine intention for you to feel in the manner described and we are sorry to hear this.
