Had an MOT and full service, got a phone call from a technician explaining what needed to be done and why and all the work was done same day at a reasonable price, all the staff were polite and helpful I was very happy with the service Mr Tyre Ltd provided

I took my car to Mr Tyre in Congleton on 29 August to have four new tyres fitted. Beforehand, I specifically asked whether they could carry out the work without damaging the wheels. I was assured that they were confident they could do so and that photographs would be taken before any work began to document the condition of the wheels.

When I got the car home, I discovered that three of the wheels had been damaged during the tyre fitting. I immediately contacted the branch and was asked to bring the car back so they could inspect the damage. They took photographs themselves, but initially refused to accept liability, despite their own photographs clearly showing that the wheels were undamaged before they worked on them. I was told that the manager would review the matter, but that he was away until the following Tuesday.

Eventually, the manager inspected the photographs and the branch accepted that the damage was their fault. The wheels were booked into a local wheel refurbishing company, but I had to wait until 16 September before they could be refurbished. Consequently, I was left driving around for over two weeks with three wheels damaged by work carried out by the branch.

There was another issue with the proposed refurbishment which I found particularly frustrating. Mr Tyre initially intended to refurbish only the three wheels they had accepted responsibility for damaging. This would have left me with one wheel with its original finish and three wheels with a freshly refurbished finish, meaning the fourth wheel would inevitably have looked different from the other three.

I therefore had to pay for the refurbishment of the fourth wheel myself so that all four wheels would match. This was an unexpected expense that I had not accounted for when I took my car in for what should have been a straightforward set of new tyres.

When I finally collected the car after the refurbishment, the wheels themselves had been repaired properly and looked good. Unfortunately, Mr Tyre then managed to ruin the appearance of them again.

My car has a deliberately understated, stealth-style appearance, with satin black wheels, dark metallic grey paintwork and virtually everything else finished in black or grey. Despite this, they fitted large, highly visible silver balancing weights to the freshly refurbished black wheels.

When I questioned this, I was told that they had simply run out of black weights. Rather than wait for the correct weights to arrive, they apparently decided that silver ones would do. This is particularly frustrating because the problem could so easily have been avoided by simply waiting and fitting the appropriate weights.

There was another example of the same complete lack of attention to detail when the tyres were originally fitted. They unilaterally replaced my black valve caps with silver ones. When I queried this, I was told that they do this to all cars. That may be their standard practice, but it was not something I had asked them to do and it completely ignored the deliberate appearance of my car.

The issue here isn’t simply that I don’t like silver wheel weights or valve caps. It is the complete lack of care and attention to the customer’s vehicle. I had specifically chosen black components because they match the car. After damaging three wheels, initially disputing responsibility, making me wait more than two weeks for the damage to be rectified, leaving me to pay for the fourth wheel to be refurbished so that all four would match, they then finished the job by putting highly conspicuous silver weights on the wheels because they had run out of the correct ones.

A tyre fitting centre should understand that not every car is an old work van where cosmetic damage and mismatched components don’t matter. If you’re working on a car that has been deliberately finished to a particular aesthetic, attention to detail matters.

The wheels have now had to be refurbished because of damage caused by this branch, I have incurred an additional refurbishment expense simply to ensure all four wheels match, and I will now have to arrange for the balancing weights to be replaced because they couldn’t use the appropriate ones.

What should have been a straightforward appointment to have four new tyres fitted has instead resulted in damaged wheels, weeks of inconvenience, additional expense and further hassle that I should never have had to deal with.

My experience at Mr Tyre has demonstrated a disappointing lack of care, attention to detail and consideration for the customer’s property.

I would not trust this branch with a car where the condition and appearance of the wheels matter.

Update: After posting the above review, Mr Tyre reached out and refunded me for the cost of refurbishing the 4th wheel.

I feel the people working at Mr Tyre in Congleton are trustworthy and honest. They don’t make faults up, keep me informed of anything that needs doing and complete the work in the timescale given. They have also helped me out by keeping my car overnight when i couldn’t get back to collect it on the day. The prices are competitive and the service Rick and the team give is excellent. If they can repair something such as a tyre, they will do that instead of saying a new one is required. Each time i use them i feel confident in the service i’m going to get.

Brake disk and pads at front failed after just over 7k miles yet no sensor warning. Rear disks also failed but just after 12k so no warranty replacement and £280 cost. Not impressed with the quality of spares plus had a 2.5 hour wait. Unlikely to use again.

Brilliant. Professional. Good price. Much better than a different local garage I regrettably went to last service. I shall be coming back to mrtyre in future.
