MJ Harris quoted me £1,750 A DAY!
MJ Harris quoted me £1,750 labour A DAY!! for carrying out first and second fix (i.e. some new pipework and connecting up a bath, shower, toilet and basin) in a small bathroom. Materials were extra. They estimated the job would take two to three days. An absolute joke. They gained my £42 call-out fee, but the company will never receive another penny of my money.

Oh my goodness..im still reeliing from the shock of the quote!
I payed £42 for call out which was absolutely fine. Booked in for same day but I phoned during the afternoon to check what time engineer was due to arrive, to be told sorry..engineer has called in sick.
Eventually I had to wait a week until the following Monday. Engineer turned up, stayed all of 5 minutes. Diagnosed pump failure of a saniflow toilet system and quoted my £1200 to supply new and fit.
Saniflows cost £450 so that means to fit they are charging me £750!!
Sorry..I do realise that anything to do with Saniflow systems carry a premium..but that is over the top ridiculous.
Needless to say, I have found a GENUINE local plumber to come and REPAIR the unit ( switch, not pump had broken) for 160 quid.

Took a star off …
Took a star off as the call out was delayed 28.5 hours, as on my first phone call I was promised an appointment to unblock my sewer and toilet that day. This was cancelled an hour later “due to staff sickness”. Had to phone twice the next day to find out when the person would arrive. Thankfully the man who arrived was brilliant and solved 95% of the problem

We are sorry for the delayed appointments, this is not our usual process and we have experienced delays due to staff sicknes which has been out of our control.
We advise our customers that it is an all day appointment, from 7.30am - 6.30pm and the engineer will give you a courtesy call half an hour before arrival. Unfortunately we are unable to provide accurate times.

Called the company and was told the…
Called the company and was told the plumber could come round the same day for job.
However, in the afternoon company called saying the plumber had been delayed and could job be moved to next day morning. I agreed.
In the morning Harry the plumber called, visited the premises, gave me a quote, then went to get the parts, came back and did the job. Harry was efficient and did a great job.

Very expensive. Quote of £235 for changing a £25 valve on a toilet. Labour charge of £210 seems steep!

The plumber that undertook the work was very helpful and professional, phoning before arrival to agree a time. Then, he explained the issue, the cost and fitted the new tap to fix the problem. He left everything clean and tidy. I would thoroughly recommend M.J. Harris Domestic Repairs.

Unbelievable charges for an extremely poor service
On 12/02/25 I called this company reporting a leak from the pipework connecting to my hot water cylinder. I paid the £42 call-out fee having been told someone would call the same day. No one came until 18/02/25, after repeated calls from me and being told someone would be coming in the afternoon, tomorrow etc etc. The engineer who came took 10 minutes to assess the problem, but said he would have to order some parts and would be back the following day to complete the work: he did not come! More telephone calls from me and being lied to by the operator. Eventually another engineer, who did not seem to know what to do and had to call the first engineer, came on the 20/02/25 and completed the work in 45 minutes. So my job reported on 12th was not completed until 20th! The cost £204.99, being charged an outrageous £210 an hour for labour and having to pay for a complete hour despite the work taking 45 minutes. Be warned about this so-called "family run business", about which I was unable to find any information.

We had to order a filling loop with gauge from our supplier and once we had receved the part we would reattend to carry out the repair which we did on the 19/02/2025.
You would have been made aware of all charges before the work went ahead, please note you are not obligated to go ahead and we will only do so on your instruction, we also have a minimum charge of 1 hour labour, most jobs are completed within 1 hour.

The job was done quickly and successfully. It was however very expensive (£241.50) for 30 minutes at the property. I think this company is based over 100 miles away from where I live(which I did not know at the time)

My experience with this (local?) company is a complete repeat of so many reviewers on here. A-Class FAIL.
Book - Pay Fee - Wait (all afternoon at home) - Apologetic Phone Call - Re-Book - Wait (all afternoon at home - again) - Apologetic Phone Call - .........
......At this stage I sussed that this wasn't going to work for me, so asked for refund of the Call-Out Fee and for them to cancel the apologetic phone calls.
Guess what? I'm waiting for the refund of the Call-Out Fee ☹️. Hopefully tomorrow.

We have currently been experiencing delays that have been out of our control.
As you would have seen, we are a family run business and fully employ all of engineers as well as small office team, Our engineers all live local to their area covering a 10-15 mile radius. There are occasions where we do bring engineers out of area to avoid cancelling appointments however this will be if it logistically works out.
We advise its an all day appointment and that the engineers do work up until 6.30pm. The engineer will give you a courtesy call 30 minutes before their arrival.
Please note you refund would have been processed and this takes 2-3 days to clear into your account excluding weekends.
Again, we apologise for your experience and we will be sure to pass on your feedback.

Appalling company
Came out to unblock a drain, charged over £240 took 10 minutes, drain not unblocked, phoned back stated would be out that day, phoned to say they then couldn’t come out and couldn’t make any promises when they could would just try, agent spoke over me constantly trying to get me off the phone, appalling job and customer service

We can see we attended on the 10th to a blocked gully pot. You then made a booking with us Monday 17th to say you were still having an issue with the blockage.
Our engineer attended and carried out an inspection under your gaurantee and it was confirmed that the issue was seperate to the one that we attended to initially, however, we cleared this blockage for you at no additional charge and also cleared your dishwasher with the wet vac and cleared an additional gully pot.
