LawStop took over my unlawful eviction case in 2024 when Howells solicitors in Sheffield had to close their housing department due to cut backs on government funding.
At first (after being passed onto 2-3 different solicitors in that same firm of LawStop), I did think the solicitor representing me were quite good until she became none responsive and not replying to my emails.
I accepted an offer by a previous landlord for unlawful eviction in January of this year (2026), the offer included my reasonable legal costs to be paid, as well as compensation which has been paid and is currently in lawstop’s clients safe.
Since January of this year I have been waiting for lawstops billing department to send my legal bill to the opponents solicitors Abby Scott Law, and wait to see if they agree if it amounts to my reasonable costs before becoming payable.
I have been trying to get some answers as to a timeline and when my compensation can be transferred to me because it’s already been going on since February 2023.
I were told numerous times that the statutory charge (legal aid), will not apply to me as my opponent has agreed to pay my reasonable legal fees, therefor there will be no need for LawStop to ask legal aid to apply for it.
My financial situation went from ok, to bad, now worse and this unlawful eviction is the main culprit which caused most of the mess I find myself in today.

All I want is what is rightfully mine, the compensation I accepted which is nothing compared to what I lost during my unlawful eviction.
Imagine coming home after being away for a couple of weeks only to find you can’t get in as your locks have been changed. You look around outside the property and can see your personal belongings half burned in burning bins in the back yard, and then opening the letter box you see other people’s foot ware on the stair case opposite the inside of your door. The landlord moved other tenants in to your flat and discarded every single item that belonged to you, and stole your sofa and other furniture purchased whilst living there.
Imagine on that freezing February evening having nowhere to go and becoming homeless for weeks before finding accommodation in another town far away from your elderly parents, not knowing anyone and I have been fighting this case since then.
LawStop have refuse to give me an interim payment to help me out and yet they don’t even reply to my queries regarding any of the issuer mentioned.
LawStop need to sort these issues out because it isn’t fair to treat us like I feel Iv been treat.

Lawstop was invaluable at holding the local authority to account regarding my child's SEN provision. Our experience was that the local authority was either wholly incompetent or deliberately attempting to withhold provision as some sort of short sighted cost saving exercise. Lawstop secured Legal Aid for us and got the local authority to provide the provision as stated in the EHCP.
