My dog was recently referred to…
My dog was recently referred to Langford’s with some lameness which after several tests and X-rays turned out to be a partial cruciate ligament tear. The staff and vets are excellent but I do think unnecessary extra tests are completed e.g. bone biopsy, ultrasound which cost over £1000 resulting in all the money in my insurance pot being used and left with a bill to settle after the operation which cost £4900 of £2200.
Communicated with us brilliantly

Extremely grateful
Words cannot adequately express how grateful we are to Langford for saving our dog's life. Alfie was diagnosed with liver cancer which proved to be operable following a CT scan. All the staff were amazing and the surgery performed successfully at very short notice. We were kept fully informed at every stage. He's now back to his normal self - thank you so much.
Do not use these vets
Do not use these vets! We were referred by our vet as our 4 month old puppy had shoulder displacement. We were given just one option as it could not be left as it was, 3/4 months pre op in a crate. Operation estimated at £8,000/£10,000 for a fusion which would severally affect his mobility post op. 3/4 months post op crated again, out for pee and poo breaks only. No guarantee it would work and a high incidence of infection. If it failed due to infection a reversal after 3/4 months in a crate again following antibiotics, then his leg would have to be removed. This was our 3rd dog previous pups lived to 14 and 19 years so not we were not newbies. Oh and post op issues would be charged at £5,000/£6,000.
We were totally devastated. Enroute home we made the decision to have the pup put to sleep. Straight to our vets who we knew very well due to them looking after each of our dogs. Our vet was shocked and called Langford to get it first hand. Our vet said just because you can do this op it doesn't mean you should. Her opinion was that this was excessive. Her advice was leave it to see how it develops and if he doesn't manage well, then we will remove his leg. Here we are nearly 12 months on we have an otherwise healthy happy pup with a slight limp! We felt totally let down by Langford. To cap it all they know this, expect us to pay the £300 consultation in full and have even instructed a heavy handed debt recovery agency. Terrible experience from Langford who imho tried to extort huge sums of money with a heavy dose of emotional blackmail clearly putting profit before our pets wellbeing.
I have nothing but praise for Langford…
I have nothing but praise for Langford Vets. My little dog is still under their care and her consultant, Claudia, has been wonderful. The support I have had following a visit recently with Bella, my little dog , has been superb. I have complete confidence in them. They listen to you and take everything on board. They explain everything and answer all your questions. The staff are always friendly when you phone. Honestly I would have mo hesitation in recommending them.
Beware Minimum Charge
Very disappointing - charged £300 for a ten minute visit. Langfords declined to give any treatment and suggested that nature take its course. They sent a 3 page report 90+% of which was about existing conditions not related to the problem and which we & they were already well aware.
Apparently this is their minimum charge. Good work if you can get it!
I am so happy to recommend Langford…
I am so happy to recommend Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital! My Golden Retriever puppy, Breagha, is being treated for IHPSS, and underwent a coil embolisation procedure there in February 2023. From the very beginning, the staff were professional, caring, and friendly, which put me at ease during what was a very stressful time. They kept me updated throughout the process and provided me with excellent follow-up advice, which helped me to care for Breagha during her initial recovery.
I would like to give a big thank you to Dr Ed Friend and his team (Nick and Gabby), who were absolutely amazing. Their expertise, care, and dedication were truly impressive and made all the difference to my puppy's stay. The staff at Langford Vets were always available to answer my questions and address any concerns I had, and I felt that Breagha was in very good hands throughout her time there.
Overall, Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital provided exceptional care for my puppy, and I'm so grateful for the excellent service that they provided. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality, compassionate care for their pet! Thank You
Saved our pups life!
Our beautiful German Shepherd pup was sent to Langford for an operation for Intussusception. From the minute we walked in through the door to the minute we picked our pup up we were shown nothing but care and compassion. The whole procedure was explain in full along with an estimate of the costs. Our dog was in the hospital for 4 days and the costs involved came in pretty much in the middle of our estimate. We don’t have insurance (stupidly) but with the help of family, friends and complete strangers we managed to fund raise a large portion to help out.
I’ve read the negative reviews on Langford and can only imagine that a lot of the staff have changed because every person we saw or spoke to on the phone was knowledgeable and well informed. I hope we never have to go back their again but I’d have no concerns other than financial ones if we did! It’s a 10/10 from us! Thank you ❤️
Exceptional care and compassion
I was referred to Landford small animal hospital by my own vet due to my beautiful frenchie Violet losing the use of her back legs. Very sadly she had cancer and treatment did not work so she had to be put to sleep. However Chloe and her team showed such compassion, and cared for Violet exceptionally well. I was able to visit her for as long and as often as I wanted and they went out of their way to make sure we were all comfortable in what can only be described as one of the worst and most upsetting times in my life. Whilst we couldn't save her, they really did everything they could to try. I would highly recommend them.
Langford vets Bristol
Langford vets Bristol. Please don’t take your babies here . I will regret this for the rest of my life . I took my daughter here thinking they would make her better. They found something blamed everything on that . Lola came home with limited hearing also wasn’t well for weeks and was kept in over night for no good reason they gave her drugs because she was stressed because they kept in , we wanted her home. They didn’t find out what was truly wrong with her as they never investigated enough as soon as they found one thing that was it . I had to have her put to sleep within 11 months she was riddled with cancer. Please don’t make the same mistake. 😭😭😭😭. I paid a lot of money and they just made her sicker.
Overweight Cat
My cat is overweight and on a very strict diet. We were referred to a weight management nurse. I felt very positive but my cat still did not lose weight even though she has NO treats and we have no neighbours feeding her. As we were making no progress I asked for a blood test to be performed (£250) it showed no abnormalities. When i said to the nurse about follow up she said she would keep an eye out and contact me. The vet that rang with the results said why don't you cut down on her food? is there no communication?? do they really think as responsible pet owners we wouldn't do that?? I said to the nurse if the bloods are normal I would have to come back to her and she said "I'm not an expert I am just a nurse who has been here for a long time" I thought a leading veterinary uni would be an example of up to date research and knowledge. I feel we have received absolutely no help and animal health should be all about preventing illness and consequently suffering. We now have nowhere to go and perhaps will have to consider a private consultation with a animal nutritionalist. I am not impressed.

Reception staff not helpful they do not know who the CEO is and he's based at Langford
Simply Amazing.
There is absolutely no doubt that langford hospital saved my lurcher dogs life, although you may think its expensive, you will get a professional diagnosis and the correct treatment, my dog willow has P.L.E and was under my usual vet, she had lost 4kg and was so ill, as all had failed i was reffered to langford where they did every test and scan they could, blood tests proved she was on the wrong meds, although my dog is still on the same steroid and chemo drug today, a year later she is still here, she's full of muscle and mischief and can run like the wind, she has her ups and downs but the brilliant aftercare we got too has taught us how to deal with that too…. without paying out more money to our usual vet practice, so overall its a win win…….. thank you langford staff and vets.
Our puppy was referred with sepsis…
Our puppy was referred with sepsis peritonitis after being operated on twice before with in days by our vets. He was not getting better so our vets referred him to Langford and they saved his life. He had a small chance of coming out of the op alive, and he did. I found them compassionate, professional, caring and we were given up-dates from ICU on a daily basis and we could phone any time as well if we felt we were worried. Can not praise them enough. Alex was phenomenal who operated. And care afterwards amazing. Can not thank them enough for saving our boy Monty.
My beautiful Poppy Died on the…
My beautiful Poppy Died on the Operating table, they denied any wrong doing, I am now doing an investigation, they are horrendous, they are threatening to dispose of her body, the surgeons lie, Never take your Dog there.
They killed my dog and admitted they make a lot of mistakes, they killed my dog.
A marvellous place
A marvellous place, so caring, compassionate and highly trained vets. Especially Mariet orthopaedic surgeon, my staffi had an overnight stay and Mri with anaesthetic, Mariet was very knowledgable and contacted me with regular updates, and diagnosis, I felt she looked after Missy as if it was her own dog.
