I'm writing this review much later than intended, but Hobgoblin Music staff were so helpful to me last Christmas and I need to celebrate that! I was going to pop into their London Fitzrovia shop to buy a specific harmonica for my brother's Christmas present, so I phoned in advance and they helpfully told me that they didn't have it in stock but that it would be straightforward to order from their website. I placed the order easily, but was a bit surprised there was only one delivery fee option that was pricey. I decided to proceed because my brother really wanted the item plus I wanted to support an independent music business, and soon after I placed my order, without prompting, I received an apology about the high delivery fee and a refund of the difference. The communication was excellent and I'd definitely use them again. The staff were knowledgeable, helpful and honest. Recommend 100%.

Huge shout out to every person I interacted with on my instrument buying journey in the Canterbury branch, from Liz who endured about half an hour of questions without a sale, to Tony who tuned up my guitar and endured even more questions, and the brilliant luthier that helped my wife with her first violin.

I originally went into Hobgoblin to ask if they would buy an old flute I had at the beginning of April. They said they would take a look so I returned on the 9th with the flute and they promised £80-100 and would let me know the following week. I had heard nothing by the beginning of May so rang and asked and got told they didn't want to buy the flute (although they offered sale or return which I didn't want).
So I am annoyed that they had two chances to tell me they didn't want the flute, but they told me they did and then they didn't communicate with me for 4 weeks, only responding when I chased them. Broken promises.

The people at Hobgoblin were warm and helpful on the phone. There had been a glitch on the website where tariff related charges were estimated as unreasonably high for an inexpensive item but I phoned them and they helped me place my order with the proper tariff charges upfront. Also, they’re the only place online that sells leather tipped bodhran tippers (which give a nice bassy sound). I recommend them
