Hiscox is a classic example of an insurance company lending you an umbrella but requiring it back when it starts to rain. I had my home and a second property insured with them for seven years, paid them over £50k (!) in premium and never filed a claim. Then we had some sudden flooding in one of the properties causing about £5k of damage - long story short: Hiscox used every excuse and trick in the book to avoid having to pay out, delayed endlessly, came up with new requests for information months after the event and basically called us liars. In the end, they refused to pay out, claiming the cause of the damage had occurred "gradually", when this was clearly not the case and we had consistently made this clear to them. It was a really bad experience all around and I would strongly recommend you do not fall for their smooth sales talk and buy your home insurance somewhere else.

I have my BMW E36 insured with Hiscox (I am currently in my second year insuring with them). The vehicle is modified which usually presents its own challenges. I had spent time with various other insurers who either wouldn't insure the car, or didn't quite understand what I was trying to achieve, however Hiscox made the purchasing of insurance process very smooth and efficient.
When you purchase insurance, you purchase it in the hope that you will never need it.
However, on the 1st January I was involved in an accident whereby I was reversed into at speed by a non UK national, driving a non UK registered car and they were heavily intoxicated.
My car suffered damage which at the time looked like the car was going to be written off.
In my 13 years of driving, I've never had so much as a car park scrape so this was a very nerve wracking experience and was totally new territory for me.
To cut a long story short, I have just picked my car up from the repairer following a repair, and given the circumstances I couldn't of been any happier with how Hiscox dealt with the whole ordeal.
I would like to make a specific mention to Luke Miller who was my point of contact as the claims underwriter for my claim.
Luke is a credit to the Hiscox team and was always available to answer any questions I had. Luke was compassionate, helpful and genuinely felt like he had my best interests at heart.
Regular updates were provided during repair and just did exactly what he said he was going to do every single time.
Having worked in the customer service industry all of my life, THIS is what good customer service looks like.

Have been dealing with them as a third party, im suprised they get anything done, my claim against them started in November last year, apparently they still need to investigate. Helen from thier team has been as good as a wet lettuce.

Not a great experience. They have been investigating a matter over 3 months now, been in contact with Helen who only reply’s 4 weeks later, if your lucky 2 weeks. I believe these are delay tactics as the event happened and we provided the evidence as soon as it happened, to local authorises, and their insurer. Our vehicle is still on closer to being repaired. It happened in November and now we are almost a week in April. I think that says it all!!

Great portal for building insurance cover, slightly slow in responding and no mark-up when fields are left empty leading to waiting times until realising mistakes in filling the forms

I find using the internet can be tricky and there were one or two moments I thought I might have got something wrong. I therefore phoned them and spoke to a charming lady who checked everything for me , all was ok. I have been dealing wih another broker for years who has gone to AI, it was horrendous, so I was delighted that Hiscox was still using human beings, full marks ! Highly recommended .
