Had a full house window replacement
I very rarely write negative reviews, but after more than a decade of dealing with these windows, I feel I have a responsibility to warn others.
In 2015 I replaced every window in my home with windows manufactured by Global Windows & Doors of New Brunswick. It is a decision I have regretted ever since.
The problems began with the quality of the product itself. The windows feel cheaply made and poorly finished. The locking hardware is flimsy, and the plastic washers in the latches quickly disintegrate, leaving the catches feeling loose and unreliable.
The biggest problem, however, has been the balance springs. They fail with alarming regularity, leaving the sashes unable to stay open. I have had numerous springs replaced over the years, only for them to fail again.
What makes matters even worse is the design. The balance springs are sealed inside the sash during manufacture, so replacing one requires cutting into the window itself. This is an astonishingly poor design choice that virtually guarantees damage during repairs.
Unfortunately, the workmanship of the technicians has only added to the frustration. On one visit, a technician butchered the window frame while cutting out the balance and then attempted to leave without mentioning the damage, apparently hoping we wouldn’t notice. On another recent repair, the technician seemed completely out of his depth. Despite the balance having been replaced previously, he still managed to cut and damage the window. When he realised he had no trim pieces to conceal the damage, he removed trim from another perfectly good window and fitted it instead. I was left with one damaged window and another missing parts.
To make matters worse, the company has simply ignored my complaints. After spending thousands of dollars on a full house of windows, I expected products that would last and customer service that would stand behind them. Instead, I have experienced repeated failures, poor workmanship, damaged property and complete indifference.
If you are considering these windows because the price seems attractive, think very carefully. A window is not something you expect to replace every few years, and you certainly shouldn’t expect repeated repairs that involve cutting into the frame.
I cannot recommend Global Windows & Doors under any circumstances. Based on my experience, the products are poorly designed, the quality is disappointing, the repairs are invasive, and customer service has been non-existent. Had I known then what I know now, I would never have purchased them, and I strongly advise others to look elsewhere.
