I was invited for their seasonal project for my native language to ENG. At first, it was good because I'm always the one who loves doing Human Translation, the points was good and the payment was consider okay, although the rate was consider low.
Then, on the next seasonal project, they're start accusing me of using machine translation, probably because I was trying to get 10000 -15000 words translated in 3 days and gain too many points, Feel offended by it, because I pull all-nighters for 3 days to finished it (I need to fulfill the quota in those 3 days, because I don't have spare time for the next incoming 4 days due to personal matter). And they're accusing me for machine translation, and deduct (so many %) from total point I have gather. At least they have a courtesy to email me first before deducting the points and they also saying that they have so many proof on my violation. Yeah, sure whatever makes them happy to use as an excuse to deduct my points. In my defense it was Human translation and I pull all-nighters to finished everything on time. It's not my fault if the machine also using the similar or same words or creating the same sentences. What weird way to accusing someone and just to using that to deducts or robbing their points. For anyone who's is professional translator that that rarely using any CAT Tools or doing human translation, I wouldn't advise you all to work with them, their standard definitely won't align with your purpose or worth. They just want free translation done for them and wasting your time.
I should have trusted the online reviews, as it turned out to be a scam.
First of all, they have a weird way of paying their contributors, as you need to "collect points" to spend on their store to buy paypal rewards... But the fact is, the points you collect are based on how many points they decide to award you after you've submitted the translation. I tried with one translation, which took me around 1 hour to complete, and after more than a month I've ben awarded with... 0 points! Right, basically I worked for free, and they DON'T tell you why you failed the task, you just see a generic "fail".
I suspected it was going to end like this, so I didn't invest too much time on in.
They asked me to do a test for getting into the role, and asked my ID, then they never response me. I just hope this rude company will not use my ID to do something bad. PLESE BE CAREFUL.
They took all the work without paying for anything. They trap poor freelancers from 3rd world countries to get their work done and then they don't pay
Totally scam. They don't value your work and time. I only got paid once and a misery. They paid me only once at 0.01 USD per word, (nobody pays that and it is nonsense) that are the fees they handle and they put you lots of excuses for not paying because the terms and conditions are crazy, they will only pay you if the work you did meets their critería, doesn't matter your time and quality. It was a long and hard work and they only paid me 20 USD. Last time I did another job with the same fee, a really long and tiring work, they were supposed to pay me 38 USD on July 12th and they did not pay me, because although I did the job and it was well done, I said I quit because I didn't want to be a slave. The project took me a lot of time, they still owe me money, I know that they will not pay me. Don't work for them, they are scammers. They play with people's necessity, they are abusers, exploiters.
Being a native italian speaker I've been using the Flitto app last year to do translations and see if I could actually make some money. Result: "Too fast! You're clearly a bot so we'll be suspending your account for 2 weeks 😋". Complained to support since I believe I'm not a bot, and they seemed to be the bots to me since they did nothing but repeat their guidelines about not allowing bots.
I redeemed my accumulated points (yes, you don't get actual money but "points", and when you want to convert them into money you'll have to pay a fee as well 🙂), pissed off I just left Flitto alone and moved on with my life.
This year I get an email inviting me to a New Arcade project on the Flitto website. Again I tried to use it to see if the situation changed. For a few times it worked and I did my share of underpaid work, despite the interface making it extremely difficult for me. Of course I get a rejected assignment saying "we detected machine translation" so no money for that one.
Since I kinda got tired of translating out of context sentences and being accused of being a bot or a machine I decided to apply for the Pro 1:1 translation. Boy was that a mistake. Banned again because they detected machine translation, now they dont even allow me to login and claim my payments. They provide screenshot of their funny monitoring program where they check what percentage of your translation is the same as other online automatic translators, and that's their excuse to ban me.
First of all machine translations shouldn't be the enemy of a human translator, they should be a tool to speed up the process. The platform doesn't see it that way so it doesn't allow it, alright. The least they could do though is having the basic understanding that this isnt 15 years ago and my human translation is most likely gonna look similar to a machine translation since they evolved and got pretty accurate at providing optimal contextualized translations.
The thing you have to focus on doing while translating for Flitto isn't to provide the best translation you can, it's actually the opposite. You have to make sure you use obscure and uncommon wording and synonyms just to make sure you pass their dumbass criteria. A machine telling a human to not be a machine, pretty hilarious.
Flitto isn't something you use if you're a translator, it's something you're forced to use if you dont have a degree and can't access other translation gig websites. I don't recommend it to anyone who knows their worth.
The management is terrible. Several colleagues have been dismissed by the company without reasonable motives and even with accusations of plagiarism or unfair work without evidence. Furthermore, whenever they decide you have (again, without proof) violated their guidelines and terms of use, they just retain all your gains (which are "paid" in points, not in actual currency). This basically makes you work for free until they decide monocratically whether you are worth the payment or not.
The management team should be more transparent whenever they decided to dismiss an employer, in addition to granting at least a percentage of their work, not retaining all of the points (again, this makes us work for free). Not to mention that the system of points itself is problematic and very underpaid in the translation industry.
Flitto is a Korea-based, "global crowdsourcing translation platform, where you can request translations as you need or become a translator if you can speak more than one language." Being bilingual in German and English, I signed up as a translator and went through two rounds of (unpaid) tests. Then I signed up for my first translation job, which was just a bunch of separate lines (ten, to be precise). I submitted - and IMMEDIATELY got a "response", i.e. some bot seemingly default-responded:
"Did not comply with the guide
Entered an answer that is completely irrelevant to the question
Too many incorrect answers
Copied machine translation word for word"
So, here's the thing: 1) there was nothing to "comply with" - those were ten separate lines without much complexity. Don't play the "guide" card; 2) At NO point did I provide an "answer " (i.e. provide a translation) that was irrelevant to the question/source text - let alone "completely"! I am a professional translator and know how to do my job! (besides: get your jargon right - translators are no school kids, we provide translations, not "answers"; 3) "Too many incorrect answers" - I'd venture to claim: no; and 4) "Copied machine translation word for word" - HOW DARE YOU!?? I translated manually and without any help from a "machine"!!! Get your facts straight before such accusations!
And then it is of course impossible to get in touch with any human.
Translators: Do NOT work with them! It is a waste of time. They have no clue!
