Awful switching experience. Asked for dual fuel to be transferred - they only transferred gas and didn't notify me that elec transfer hadn't gone through (they input details incorrectly). Have now noticed that they transferred gas for the day I called rather than the next day as requested therefore I have received a €50 early termination charge for my previous supplier.

But the main thing is that no one pays attention to the notoriety, and you can't figure out what this deposit is??? It feels like this isn't Ireland, but North Korea.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong. The only thing that would save this company would be to bury it deep down where no one would ever hear of it again.
42 days to get a contract renewed
Tried to renew my contract with EI last December. They had a software issue their end so couldn't put me on the new rate( 24%) immediately so was put on the basic 5.5% saving rate until the issue could be resolved. I was told by 2 electric ireland reps that the 24% saving would be backdated to the end of my old contract because the delay wasn't of my making.
Several phone calls and 42 billing days later( yes! 42!) And EI finally got their crap together and got me onto the advertised 24% savings rate. But the representative conveniently forgot to tell me that the new rate was only applicable from yesterday, not at the end of my previous contract! So I paid a higher rate of kph and a miserable 5.5% reduction instead of the promised 24% for 42 days because EI reps lied to me on the phone! 2 of the highest electricity bills I've ever had! Shocking customer service!

If I could give zero stars, I would have taken that option. I have been trying to transfer back from a PAYG meter to bill pay for the last month. This meter was installed at a property I moved back into only to discover that there were substantial arrears by the previous occupants. Putting in this meter was a dual purpose, to stop disconnection, and to repay the arrears. This is not a cheap option, the unit rate is more expensive, standing charge applied daily even if there is no power being used, debt repayment 15% of every top up. Cannot avail of cost saving measures like night time usage. The PAYG credit control of electric Ireland cannot be contacted. Electric Ireland refer you to PAYG section, queries raised, no reply or conclusion to these queries. I would not recommend to anyone to have one of these meters installed, they are extremely expensive to run, and there is absolutely no customer service with either electric Ireland or PAYG electric Ireland. In fact they appear to be two separate entities within the same company

Absolutely shocking incompetent company! Been dealing with them daily with emails and calls, only to be told after day 5 resend original email! Then got told not dealing with right department! Find telephone staff so rude with no empathy or understanding. Use a different company if you don’t want any stress!!

I changed my account from 24hr to weekender and they sent me another bill for doing this trying to save a bit as my bill is higher than the normal by quite a lot rang them electric Ireland they were so unhelpful and kept saying the same thing over and over I think they just use us as money machines in this country

I am trying to close my account as I have moved out. I have been trying for 2 days but their system keeps telling me I have to phone them up. There is no reason I shouldn't be able to do this online, they just seem to want to make it as unpleasant as possible for no reason at all.

I changed to Electric Ireland last year and was totally satisfied with their service. I have just renewed my contract for 2026/2027 and I am happy with my contract. Can’t comprehend why so many negative reviews?, perhaps 🤔 customers may share some of the blame due to a sense of infallibility.
The worst phone support.
Just the worst phone operator service. They cant explain the bills they are charging, I need to phone the ESB directly as only they have the meter information. They can't understand that 5 times the price of a bill is a nonsensical thing to attempt the charge with a direct debit with no warning.

I had an issue never received one of my parcels and I contacted customer services, a lovely girl called Jayne looked into it and the delivery company said delivered even though I knew and said it wasn't, she rearranged and sent out a replacement in one day
A really poor company
A really poor company. Hopeless systems and billing practices, error after error, combined with a terrible tendency to bully and threaten their customers even when they are at fault. Avoid. I recommend getting a Complaint Number from them if having a problem and using it to report them to the Commission for Energy Regulation.
