EDP Needs to Publish, not Censor, Uncomfortable Truths in Comments
The EDP had an article about a young, Green Party Councillor, who supports the motion passed at the Conference in Brighton, October 2026, that “Zionism is racism”. In a comment on the article, I pointed out pertinent facts not covered in the article that the Councillor:
1. Is a convert to Islam, who identifies as a transwoman.
2. Is likely to be a biological male, judging from the Councillor’s 5 o’clock shadow.
3. Would not be allowed to try on women’s clothing in shops on Oxford Street close to Marble Arch, London, which have many Muslim customers.
4. Has an Islamic prayer, with mistakes, tattoed on the back; Islam forbids tattoos.
5. Does not follow Islam’s strictures on modest dress for women; eg exposing the back to public gaze.
6. Would not survive in Gaza or the West Bank, which are strongly anti-LGBT, as are most Muslim lands.
I also added that:
7. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, which left-wing activists aided, in 1988 Ayatollah Khomeini killed up to 30,000 of them.
8. What Iran did with its ‘useful idiots’ was similar to what Stalin did to his ‘useful idiots’ after taking over their countries.
All 8 points are publicly available information. The only opinion I gave was:
“While, I have questions about the Councillor’s knowledge, awareness and judgement, I leave others to ponder what they think of that Councillor.”
The EDP categorised my words as “COMMENT DEACTIVATED”. The 8 facts may be 8 uncomfortable truths to some, but support questioning the Councillor’s abilities. I have seen far harsher criticism of Trump or Burnham. Similarly, I now question the competence of the EDP, which needs to deal with uncomfortable truths, not censor them.
Sad excuse of Journalism
Absolutely rubbish ‘Journalism’. They seem to now ‘gather’ their stories from online social media posts and fail to actually report on the real stories instead sensationalising half stories and gossip. The EDP is now longer going to get any views from me. Reputable? Hardly!
I am deeply disappointed by both the…
I am deeply disappointed by both the article published about my late uncle and the way my concerns were handled afterwards.
The article focused on my uncle's history of drug addiction following his death, despite the fact that he had endured horrific abuse as a child. Addiction does not exist in a vacuum, and reducing someone's life to that aspect of their story, particularly after they have passed away, felt deeply dehumanising. The headline, in particular, came across as sensationalist and appeared to prioritise attracting readers over treating a deceased person and their family with dignity and compassion. He was far from a perfect human-being and he had a lot of faults and flaws in his character as a person. However narrowing down someone to a personal struggle is extremely demeaning and very judgemental when everyone has their flaws and nobody is truly perfect and goes through a dark period in their life.
What upset me even more was the response I received when I contacted the Eastern Daily Press to ask whether the article could be removed - I was met by a disgusting and an unempathetic individual, telling me that this article is a consequence of my uncle's actions which is an extremely damaging thing to say to anyone. I explained that his children and minor grandchildren could easily find the article online and be confronted with painful details about their father and grandfather. Rather than receiving empathy or understanding, I felt my concerns were dismissed, and the tone of the follow-up email left me feeling disrespected at a time when I was simply trying to protect grieving family members.
No family should have to plead for compassion when asking a publication to consider the impact its reporting continues to have on children and grandchildren. While the press has the right to report on matters of public interest, that should not come at the expense of basic humanity and sensitivity towards those left behind.
I sincerely hope the Eastern Daily Press reflects on how it handles stories involving vulnerable people and bereaved families. Respect, compassion and responsible journalism should always come before sensationalism.
I was particularly disappointed by Kelly Strange's handling of this story. In my opinion, the article lacked the sensitivity and compassion that a story involving childhood abuse, addiction and a bereaved family deserved. I cannot help but wonder how any journalist would feel if a member of their own family were remembered primarily for one of the darkest chapters of their life, despite the trauma they endured and used just for an article for views and their own personal gain.

Richard Porritt should be sacked. He’s dangerous.
Richard Porritt is an insensitive, uncaring and dangerous individual.
He has posted an abundance of personal information, against the families wishes and refused to acknowledge the damage and distress he has caused. Upon finally speaking to him his response was “it’s democracy” and “contacting a lawyer is a waste of money”. He had published photographs of a deceased child and her grieving family. I’m beyond appalled at the lack of care and compassion. He is simply not human.
Awful rag
Awful rag, an absolute a shambles of lazy journalism & I'm astonished that the owners would deem it worthy of a paywall, the fact anyone subscribes to the bile they churn out is mind blowing

Would give a 0 if I could. Absolute scum journalists, making money off people's grief and invading privacy of families and minors even when told not to post anything. They still proceeded to post. When emailed, Richard was rude and sounded like an absolute narcissist. Wasn't even willing to listen to why what was posted was wrong.
I highly recommend avoiding this scum of the earth newspaper and it's downright shitty journalists, with piss poor writing skills.
Deeply unprofessional handling by the EDP editorial team
My family recently experienced an upsetting breach of privacy after the EDP published my mother’s full name and business details without consent, despite her clearly refusing to be named. The journalist continued to message her after she said no, and the editors (Anthony Carroll and Richard Porritt) have since responded dismissively, showing no empathy or professionalism.Their response to my formal complaint was, “OK, look forward to the IPSO investigation.” This lack of accountability and care is appalling. We are now taking the matter through IPSO for formal investigation.
I would urge others to think twice before engaging with a paper that disregards people’s rights and privacy.

The editor Richard Porritt should read…
The editor Richard Porritt should read John Milton's Areopagitica which argues for freedom of expression in Britain. The current attack on freedom of speech in Britain which appears to be receiving the support of the EDP is unconscionable.

Digital subscription was fine at a promotional cost, but it was auto renewed at £79 with no warning whatsoever. Dreadful News Editorial.
Dreadful News Editorial.
Publishes fake and non factual articles.
Only a provincial news editorial that shouldn't be taken seriously.
Their so called senior investigators, are at best young and juvenile, and completely unable to grasp reality and fact in law.
Nothing more than a comic and not even worth 1 star.
Just Dire
Dire website with numerous and appalling adverts from dubious sources. News worthy content very limited in scope and interest usually gleaned from other social media outlets anyway.
Dire press and football
You cannot have inappropriate ads and charge for ncfc press. The stories are scraping the barrel as is the entertainment at Carrow road.
Awful football team awful press.
