Double dipping?
i went to Dorevitch in late November for some blood tests (long term condition requires regular monitoring). While I made a point of seeking reassurance that the laboratory results would be uploaded to the Government funded My Health Record as requested on the form (note the testing process is also government funded). The phlebotomist assured me that she had noted the request and also annotated the record on the computer with additional request stressing that I wanted the result up loaded. Note: other labs, if you stress the request, generally upload the results free of charge.
Two months later, not having received the results I wrote to Dorevitch asking if they could send them to me. They said they would but that I would have to pay them an additional $25. I did a bit of research on the Australian Government websites and it appears that going forward from about June 2026 labs will be compelled to upload results ot the My health Record system but until that time there is no compulsion to do so.
I contend that, given that the My Health Record system has been live for many many years now, any laboratory that had the best interests of patients at heart would be uploading results as a matter of course but at very least would upload them on specific request from the patient. To refuse to do so without payment seems like a cynical attempt to extort money from the patient for a service that is already in effect paid for.
Update 6th Feb: I received email from Dorevitch (Healius Pathology) on January 7th saying that they would not charge for uploading the results to My health record. They requested my IHI number and confirmation that this is what I wanted. i sent the IHI number and confirmation. As of today (6th Feb) the results have still not been uploaded.
