Utterly utterly hopeless! DO NOT expect to hear from them anytime soon or carry out instructions.

Kept myself and the buyers waiting so long that we needed a new redemption statement. We all lost money and yet Butterworths got paid.

They managed to make a pig's ear out of a TR1 document for the Land Registry which they were instructed on how to complete and yet they still took three months to acknowledge. Any instructions or replies took a minimum of two weeks to address so expect to be at the bottom of the queue and forgotten.

My advice - don't bother!

Currently making a total dog's dinner of my sale - they are the buyer's solicitor and the delays have been both inexplicable and monumental.

We've been trying to contact them today to complete (after all, we're only on day 300+ and counting...) on a simple zero-chain buy/sell and now they're pretending to not be available!

I'm hoping this honest and genuine review might spur them on to actually do something that resembles a solicitor, but I doubt it will resonate.

The unprofessionalism of Butterworths is unbelievable - you have been warned!

A very poor experience, with delays and incompetence at each stage.

A simple conveyancing issue, with a slight complication in a court order to be enforced. Many delays and poor communication, and when the court order was finally enacted I wasn't informed until I chased the court myself - only to be informed that my solicitor had been informed a month earlier.

My Butterworths solicitor claimed that she needed legal advice before dealing with that - the irony! I have no doubt that if I hadn't contacted the court myself I'd still be waiting for Butterworths to deal with the issue. My first mortgage offer expired after several renewals, I still don't know whether Butterworths had even attempted to deal with the court at that point.

They did offer to reduce the bill by £180 to reflect the poor service, but then increased their quoted court application fee from £100 to £400! The final bill was far in excess of the quote, with no unexpected events to justify the increase.

My advice would be to steer well clear of Butterworths.

We would recommend Butterworths to anyone.
We have used Butterworths for both conveyancing and will writings.
Danielle Coulthard and team were fantastic during our property purchase. The price quoted was the price we paid.
Danielle kept in touch by email which was our preferred method due to our work patterns but the team were always a phone call away. The phone was always answered and if who needed to speak to wasn't available we got a call back the same day, which given Covid and working from home we were really pleased with.

Kathryn Barnett drafted our Wills and provided an excellent, thoughtful and understanding service. Our Wills have given us peace of mind. Kathryn's advice was second to none and really took into consideration our personal circumstances.
With Covid we opted for a telephone consultation and Kathryn even over the phone was warm and friendly. Kathryn took into account that one us is hard of hearing and spoke clearly and made sure we understood everything.
All our documents were double checked and we were under no pressure to make decisions and could change our mind. This is just what you need when planning for the future.
