A wonderful summer course – highly recommended

My daughter attended the summer course with Ariston Education and had a really positive experience. She thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, came away feeling more confident, and was very happy with the whole experience.

From my perspective as a parent, I was also very pleased with the course. The tutors were enthusiastic, approachable and engaging, and it was lovely to see how much my daughter enjoyed learning with them. The atmosphere was encouraging and supportive, and I felt the course offered a great balance of learning and enjoyment.

Most importantly, I feel the course has helped my daughter gain confidence as she prepares to enter Year 11 and work towards her GCSEs. She has come away feeling more positive about her studies and more confident in her abilities, which is something I really value as a parent.

Communication and organisation were also good from our experience, and I appreciated the effort that went into making the course enjoyable for the students.

Overall, we were very happy with Ariston Education and my daughter has decided to continue with them for year 11. I would happily recommend the summer course to other parents looking for an engaging, supportive and worthwhile experience for their children.

My overall experience with Ariston Education has been mixed, and I am sharing this to help other parents understand the model before signing up.

There are some very energetic, talented and enthusiastic young tutors. The tutor my son worked with during the summer bootcamp was polite and engaging, and I have no criticism of his attitude or enthusiasm.

However, I was surprised to understand that some tutors are themselves very young pupils, including some who are still at school or college level, rather than qualified teachers or experienced professional tutors. Talented students can certainly be excellent at supporting younger pupils, but as a parent I would have appreciated much clearer information before paying about the tutor’s age, qualifications and experience, as well as the safeguarding, supervision and relevant checking arrangements when young people are tutoring other minors.

I also felt the fees were high considering the level of qualification and experience being provided. Parents may therefore wish to clarify exactly who will be teaching their child before committing financially.

Administration was another difficulty for us. Communication takes place across several platforms, including google Classroom, the Ariston app and email, which I found unnecessarily confusing. There also seemed to be an expectation that children would have their own email accounts, communicate directly with tutors, log in independently and arrange their lessons. Personally, I believe the paying parent should remain clearly included in communication and scheduling, particularly when the student is a minor.

We were also not given the free English trial that we understood was available and were fully charged for that session.

The most disappointing part of my experience was the communication after I raised these concerns. Rather than the discussion remaining focused on the service and the relevant terms and conditions, I felt some of the responses became personal and included comments about my parenting approach. I did not feel this was relevant to the concerns I had raised as a paying parent, and I would have preferred a neutral and professional response.

There are clearly some enthusiastic and academically talented young tutors involved, and our own tutor was pleasant. However, based on my experience, I would recommend that parents clarify the tutor’s age, qualifications and experience, safeguarding and supervision arrangements, fees, trial-session terms, communication arrangements and the platforms they will be expected to use before signing up.

Greater transparency and a more professional, parent-inclusive approach from management would have made our experience considerably better.

Ariston Education found us a maths tutor for our child in year 9. They listened to our requirements and the tutor they suggested has supported our child for the past 2 years through to their GCSE exam. Most importantly, our child has enjoyed their tutoring sessions and found them incredible supportive. Thank you!
