The coating on the gates bubbled and did not clash together
I purchased four sets of gates from Arden Gates, one set now has bubbled paint and some of the powder coating has peeled off. Arden Gates director Guy Allwood refused to accept that the cause of the problem is because of cold weather but insists that they banged together. We had thick snow (at least four inches) before Christmas and several nights of severe frost. When the ice melted some of the powder coating peeled off and there were bubbles in other parts. The gates have a five year guarantee but Guy Allwood would not honour the guarantee and sent me a do it yourself kit consisting of a tin of paint that did not match, a set of paint brushes and a draft excluder. When I refused to do it myself and asked for my guarantee to be honoured I was sent a £1000 bill. Be aware that this company will take your money, offer a five year guarantee and when you need a repair under the guarantee you will receive a do it yourself kit or a substantial bill. There is no customer service from this company. Don't waste your money, I trusted them to honour the guarantee but it is not worth the paper it is written on. I put this review on Google Reviews but it has been taken down by Arden. All their reviews on Google are "wonderful". I would suggest that the true reviews are here on Trustpilot
I am replying to Arden Gates' response to my review. It is untrue that the photo I sent to Arden Gates showed the gates had banged together, there was a large piece of coating that had peeled off and another bubble had formed. The part where the bubbling had peeled off was not on the parts that touched the other gate. It's absolutely untrue that the gates had hit each other. I still have this photo but cannot find a way to upload it to Trustpilot.
I live in Crowborough the highest town in East Sussex, once marketed for tourist purposes as "Scotland in the South". When it snows the snow is extremely thick and normally does not melt for days. The coating on the gates was unable to cope with the extreme temperatures and the ice that formed on the gates, the gates were only five months old at the time.
I reported the problem to Arden Gates and expected them to deal with the problem under warranty. Their reply was unbelievably unhelpful and they ascertained that the bubbling was due to the gates hitting each other. If it was the case that the gates had hit each other they would have been scratched or dented but this would not have caused bubbling on the gates at places where they did not touch. Arden Gates' response was pay £1000 or we can send you a do it yourself kit. I refused to pay the £1000 as this was a warranty issue so they sent me a can of non-matching paint, a set of paint brushes and a piece of draft excluder. I spent £7000 on these gates and their response was an absolute disgrace.
I was very upset about the condition of my gates and arranged for a local firm, who knew the weather conditions we experience in Crowborough to respray the gates and I have experienced no further problems with them, so clearly their coating was better than Ardens.
I put a review on Google together with photos and just forgot about the whole terrible experience. I was then informed by Google that Arden had managed to get the review taken down. I was furious and do not know how Arden managed to get the review taken down but I then put the review on Trustpilot. It was only after I did this that Guy Allwood from Arden Gates offered to repair the gates for free.
Be aware that this company will not honour the warranty, they claimed that the bubbling was due to the gates not being installed properly - how can that be true. They complained that the gates were 120 miles away, this only became a problem when I asked for a warranty repair but not when they were charging £7000 for the gates. I have NEVER had such a nasty response from a company when I have made a claim under their warranty. If you don't want to have the same experience buy your gates from another company.
