I have had the opportunity to engage with WaveSave during several water and climate-related exhibitions in the Philippines, supported by the Netherlands Embassy. From what I have seen, there is strong and growing interest in their solutions, particularly SLAMDAM as a mobile flood barrier for flood protection.

WaveSave brings a practical and solution-oriented approach to water management challenges. Their ongoing project in Negros Occidental in Central Philippines is a good example of how their technology can be applied in real-world conditions, supporting both flood resilience and water management.

They are a proactive and reliable partner, with solutions that are highly relevant for countries facing increasing flood risks.

The African Development Bank worked with Wavesave on climate resilience activities for vulnerable communities in Nigeria, Kenya and Burundi. The cooperation went well. Their broad range of water control solutions such as the SLAMDAM flood barrier have proven to be effective. Wavesave pioneered by helping with demonstrating the Adaptation Benefits Mechanism (ABM) on the ground. ABM is the first UN-recorded non-market approach and the first cooperative approach on adaptation for implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. Wavesave put in a lot of extra effort and own resources in this and developed, among others, a first-of-a-kind ABM baseline and monitoring methodology for quantifying the multiple benefits and co-benefits of activities concerning the deployment of mobile flood barriers. The methodology is in the public domain and can be used free-of-charge for similar project types.
