Can I rate it less than 1 star? I signed up for a whole life policy through an employer where I had automatic paycheck deductions. When I left the employer, I got no notice from Unum on what to do. I also forgot about it. About 18 months after I left, I found a statement which led me to call them Where an employee told me they did not contact me about making payments on the policy, but they should’ve and there’s nothing I can do about it now. Frustrated I left it there. I filed a complaint with the Alabama insurance commission and Better Business Bureau. A couple years later I called back where they denied what that rep had told me, but also would not allow access to that recorded phone call. They also said they mailed a letter out to my parents house where I regularly checked my mail, but it never came. Doing that call they kept saying there’s nothing they can do and they will do what they can to help me, but they can’t do anything. I complained to the Alabama insurance commission again and their responses they follow their policies so there’s nothing that they can do. Did they make it safely? Unum gaslit me and denied what their representative told me in 2014 but then also refuse to provide the recorded phone calls that would prove what I was saying.

Unum dental is the worst service I have ever had from a company to whom I have been a loyal customer for over ten years. All they do is give you the runaround, even if you are trying to give them more business. Neither do they respond to paying claims even when you have filled in all the forms and provided the receipts. All they are interested in is winning big corporate accounts. Their customer service after that is beyond poor.

I had major neck surgery in December 2024, and am still having issues with my neck and shoulder, my long term disability claim has been pending since may 5th, 2025. I've not gotten paid, and have not been cleared to work. They keep forcing work restrictions and functional capacity evaluations on my doctors which costs $1200.

This company consistently fails to meet deadlines, delays paperwork, misrepresents non-essential tasks as crucial, avoids accountability, manipulates and refuses to acknowledge errors, and misguides its employees.

They’re just so bad and all about corporate profits, clearly. They deny and give you the runaround during stressful and likely financially difficult times due to needing the leave in the first place. These people who work there must know what they put people through, they just do not care because it hasn’t happened to them. I sincerely hope they all get the days they deserve.

The “disagree” with your doctors and then pick and choose things from your files and spin them into some random, self contradicting pile of BS and pat themselves on the back. You pay into it. They’re stealing from you. I’m down for another round of Unum class action lawsuits.

I’m very disappointed with my recent experience with UNUM. I was told by Agent Kimbirlie that documents from my employer were still pending, even though my employer confirmed they had submitted everything over a week ago. When I raised this issue, the agent was dismissive and unhelpful, making me feel ignored during an already stressful situation.

I’m currently going through a family emergency, and the last thing I should have to worry about is whether I’ll be paid in time to cover my bills. The lack of urgency, empathy, and clear communication has caused unnecessary financial and emotional strain.

I expected better support from a company that handles disability and income protection. I hope UNUM improves their responsiveness and shows more compassion to people going through difficult times.

I WAS DENIED SHORT TERM DISABLITY WHEN I HAD COLON CANCER FOR A YEAR

I had an acute vision change. Very concerning to me. Three eye doctors later and it was determined I need Cataract surgery. I started the long and detailed process of requesting short term medical leave for surgery. I was already stressed out, but this process pushed me to pure extreme anxiety for without approval my job was in jeopardy.
My online account never matched where I was in the process. Calling was just as pointless for talking to person isn't a choice. I needed help, no help to be found.
I had talked to my supervisor multiple times to explain that I am doing all that Unum required of me, but they report different, they repeatly said my paperwork was incomplete.
My workplace did finally receive approval for my short-term medical request yet to this day, they never ever contacted me, and I can sign into my online account to see it still reads incomplete.
It was a very bad experience.

This is worst company ever almost 100kr for 6 minutes parking over free period...the level of greediness is insane...

Something is broken in their customer service. I have called and wait times are long. One time the way time stated was over 4 hours. You can leave your number and get a call back. Last time I had called they had no record in their system of my last call yet I had been on with a support person and had a full conversation. If payment not made, I will be filing legally.

They are horrible. Not for the employee. I was hospitalized, have seen 3 different Cardiologists & am scheduled for two different procedures to address my issues. It's been almost a month & UNUM still has not approved my leave! I've had 2 of the Dr.'s do the paperwork 3 times! What more do they want? All they do is add stress while you are out due to a medical issue. Pathetic.

Unum is the worst insurance for short term disability and long term disability. I had major surgery in November on my lower back. They wanted more information and both my doctor and myself sent that information. Getting hold of your case worker is a joke because they don't call you back.I got two payments and then nothing. They claim that they have to talk to their clinical experts. Their so called medical experts says different on what my doctor's are saying. They have not seen me at all so how do they know how I am doing. I am going on 5 weeks with know benefits. They are rude and keep telling you 5 business days, when it is over a month. Don't invest in this company ,They are scamming you out of your benefits that you pay into.

This place use to take 2-3 business days to pay hospital indemnity claims now it's 6 business day and paper work later and then the non speaking English folks 🙄 don't understand and tell you they are backed logged from November and how is this my problem when I had a claim from last year and some how it got erased you think you are dealing with stupid folks yall are gonna get a lawsuit and a class action lawsuit it does not take from. Last year to this year be prepared to pay out big money more than you thought. Horrible company Horrible customer service

Denied coverage for short term disability insurance because I have a minor medical issue that would never have anything to do with needing short term disability. I wish the company I work for had done a better job seeking a more professional and competent insurance provider. Especially after seeing all these terrible reviews . I plan of speaking to my HR representative about this and I hope next year we have a different provider.

I have paid into this long term care insurance for over 20 years with no claims. Now that I am on a fixed income they keep yearly raising my quarterly premiums. It appears that now that I am older and more likely to use the insurance they are trying to force me out.

I have never dealt with more incompetent agency. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

UNUM is well-known for denying legitimate claims for those in need for long-term disability. If you have your claim denied by UNUM for any reason. Contact a workers compensation attorney immediately. They will screw you over if given a chance to. You are your own best advocate.

This company is an absolute joke. They drop people off the insurance for no supplied reason. I guess they are only willing to insurance perfectly healthy people to take their money. This being the company that most employers use in my area is horrendous. I hope that one day the people of this company have to deal with a company just like themselves.

I would give a 0 if I could, had a hip replacement, they always was wanting
Updates, they wanted updates before a post opt,appt, before the surgeon, even had a chance to see me after is procedure, very unprofessional
