Unihousing Omdömen 

My daughter rented a studio in UniHouse Bristol Road in 2022 and we were impressed by the accommodation, support and service, so she used them again for her final year 25/26. The room she rented in a shared house wasn’t immaculate moving in and she needed to defrost the freezer as it was completely full of ice and a give it all a bit of a clean, but we overlooked these small issues and to be honest expect it for student accommodations. The service was great during her time there when she had a small issue with drainage. On moving out we as parents we did the final clean as she was overseas (fortunately we took photos on her moving in day and out). Six weeks later they returned the deposit but held back £25. They didn’t inform us before they did this (we only noticed it in the bank account) and despite two emails and a phone call refused to tell us why, citing they did not have access to information and asking us to wait another two weeks due to member of staff being on holiday! I suspect they had no intention of telling us and hoped we didn’t notice. As a professional letting agency, you would expect them to have some kind of centralised records and been upfront with such matters. As we are from the legal professional ourselves, we know it is not a valid reason to withhold deposits (full or partial) without good reason or evidence just ‘in case’. After the statutory 10 days we had still heard nothing, so we were forced to contact the deposit holding company. Suddenly they returned the missing amount but stated that they had done also as a gesture of good will. We suspect that had we not kept pushing they would not have returned it as they only did so when we persisted. They sent us photos stating the floor wasn’t clean. They literally sent a photo of some dust on a hard laminate floor, some mould around the bath (we have same photo on arrival) and a freezer with a tiny amount of ice in it (it was unusable when she moved in and we had to fully defrost it to get anything inside). If I could attach the photos here I would. As there is a huge gap under the door we suspect that dust had somehow rolled under the door in the intervening 6 week period! We really don’t know why other photos were sent if the ‘issue’ was dirt on the floor. And I’m talking about dirt/fluff/dust that could be vacuumed, no stains or spills. But clearly this wasn’t a justified reason so they returned the deposit. Either there was an issue or there wasn’t. All very weird and unprofessional. Based on this last experience we can no longer recommend.

Amazing company, everyone is so friendly. They helped me with last minute changes to my renting situation as an estranged student and are very respectful of my identity throughout, even before document changes. I rented with Unihousing in Selly Oak for my first year as a post-graduate student in Birmingham. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Any issues I had were dealt with in a very timely manner. My studio was perfect, great location, and I had a great experience there overall.

Really great service on the whole!
I used Unihousing in my final year of study to rent a studio with an ensuite bathroom and kitchen. The viewings were carried out really well, I didn't feel pressured at all and they helped to weigh up the pros and cons of each property. I was really lucky and managed to secure a shorter contract which was perfect for what I needed. The paperwork wasn't rushed through either, which was nice as it gave me time to read through everything without feeling too stressed.
There were a few issues when I initially moved in, but these were dealt with quickly and effectively once reported. They seemed genuinely apologetic for these issues and were grateful for my patience.
The property I was in was very well maintained, which meant I never actually needed to report any maintenance issues during my tenancy! From my experience with student lets this is extremely rare so it was nice not to have to constantly report issues. My full deposit was returned very swiftly once my contract had ended too.
Over my three years at uni I was in three different accommodation types but Unihousing was definitely the best service out of all three. I can't fault them at all for their service. Their housing is a bit pricier than others, I definitely could not have afforded a 12 month contract with my student loan, but the shorter contract was definitely worth the money. Especially if you get your own kitchen and bathroom as it was so much better than a sharing!
Would highly recommend, I only wish that I had found them sooner!

Excellent service

We came as a group, but suprisingly we found a place the very next day. The house was clean and well maintained. Perfect for what we needed it for. And it being near the University was a huge bonus. Thanks again for the great stay.

I really like the staff that work here, they are a mix of personalities that work really well. They are also quick in fixing issues reported.
