Got charged on my credit card one year later with a car that had no damage on return. Not only this they charge a credit card one year later without ever even advising if there was any damage. Very unethical

DON'T USE THRIFTY CAR RENTAL!!!

Thrifty manipulate their agreements and contract clauses to suit themselves, clauses that are in direct conflict are used to justify debiting your account after your rental agreement is concluded. Clauses in question "like for like" fueling policy and "refueling" clause.

Clients act in good faith that the vehicle is received with a full tank and return the vehicle inline with the like for like fuel policy, as I had done. All readings and evidence supported like for like usage. Thrifty unfairly claim 10L fuel shortfall and debit account without authorisation.

Appalling service on check in and worse than appalling after sales service.
In September of 2019 we booked a 4x4 Toyota Hilux to pick up in OR Tambo airport on 15th Jan 2020 for a seven week hire with cross border access to Botswana and Namibia. We were assured of the vehicle back in September.
We arrived at the rental desk and were met with blank looks. The request was on their system but no one had bothered to sort out a vehicle. Eventually after much hassle and calls to get cross border permission we were told we could "upgrade" to a Nissan X trail
This was an upgrade in terms of comfort but not in terms of ground clearance considering we were visiting Botswana and their huge potholes.
It was probably inevitable that we would suffer some bodywork damage with such low ground clearance.
When we returned the car they took an excess off us of 10,000 SAR however we had insurance on the excess through a very professional company.
Thrifty then proceeded to ignore all requests to provide an invoice for the 10,000 SAR despite requests from me, from my insurance company and from thier parent company Hertz.
My insurance company eventually settled with me despite the missing invoice.
We have taken out long car hires in Africa every year for the past seven years. On the last occasion advertising persuaded me to go to Thrifty. It was a huge mistake.

I rented a car for 12 days from Cape Town airport over the New Year. apart from a slight delay collecting the car during a very busy period, all aspects of the hire went well.

I rented a car with Thrifty through a broker. This was a business trip. We had to prepay a portion of the fee. When my colleagues arrived, Thrifty did a fraud check on the driver's credit card and deemed him a credit risk. They would not give him a car. He regularly rents cars through other agents and has had no such problems. What was unacceptable, though, was that Thrifty refused to allow a change in driver. Very unaccommodating. We will not be using Thrifty again.
