Before joining sustainable change I had reached such a low point in my life with my weight. I have always struggled and emotional eating was my default setting to cope with anything and everything. Then I would drown my sorrows with wine, eat more rubbish, loathe myself, and carry on with life with a mask on so that anyone around me would think I was fine. I have been in a self-destructive cycle for years. I have been on all the diets that are out there over and over again: slimming world, Scottish slimmer's, weight watchers, keto, fasting, and even a ‘hospital diet’ in desperate times, designed for sedentary patients with about 400kcals a day - it made me feel awful which is no surprise - but I didn’t care, as long as it worked and I lost weight. I was desperate to be a ‘normal’ size and only ever achieved it for a short while before the old habits kicked back in and I put weight back on. I’m 53 now and I can only imagine how many hours, days, weeks and months of my life I have lost to obsessing and thinking about food, fat and weight. The amount of mental space it took up has been debilitating.
For the last couple of years I tried to accept that my size is just what I’m meant to be and that I could only lose the weight if I starved myself. I was thoroughly depressed that this was my future. It was stopping me from looking forward to anything. I believed the things we hear about your body having a natural weight and it settles back to that.
But then I happened across one of Alex Neilan's YouTube videos and it peaked my interest. A Sustainable way to lose weight! Ignore all the fad diets out there; they have been failing you! We can teach you to understand the nutrition you need! And all specifically aimed at women my age. I was curious and I reached out, and then took fright and retreated for a few months. Then out of the blue Alex, from Sustainable Change messaged me. One of his values is to never give up on people and I had reached an all-time low, so I leant in and listened, and I am so glad I did.
I am a different person after a relatively short space of time. Not only have I shed two and a half stone but I have a whole new perspective on life. I have a tailored food plan that I stick to which really helps as it takes away the decision-making. I have a tailored workout plan that I am loving - it is challenging but builds up over time so very doable. I have a wonderful coach who is there whenever I need them but one of the key elements is that they make me accountable for my actions and progress - something a friend or family member could never do. There are multi-disciplinary qualified experts on tap for any questions - the education is incredible, I am learning so much about why it is important to fuel your body in the right way, and strengthen it in the right way - especially for a woman my age. There is so much information on all the whys behind what we should do to look after ourselves and they are delivered in bite size chunks at your own pace so are totally digestible. And I have the support of all the other members. This is fundamental as you can voice your story and struggles and there is immediate understanding as they have all been there in some shape or form.
There is a huge focus on the weekly wins you achieve that are not weight loss. In only 12 weeks, some of mine are:
• I have a waistline again - 68cm/26.5"
• A combination of 80cm/31.5 off areas in my body in total
• I am fitter
• I am stronger
• I have definition in places I didn't realise could have definition
• I am a nicer person to be around
• I am a happy person
• I enjoy getting up every morning
• I look forward to each day
• I am calmer and more patient with my children and staff at work
• I am enjoying life - living it, rather than just getting through it

If you are unsure, hand on heart just do it now. It is the best investment in myself I have ever made. I have spent thousands over the years on fad diets and new clothes to try and make my shape look better, and let's not add up all the booze and take-aways and junk food.
There is no good time to improve your health and wellbeing other than right now. Trust that there is an amazing group of specialists to ensure you will succeed if you just keep showing up and trying every day , and a supportive group of people who understand more than you realise and are here for you every step of the way.
I had to make a decision to start putting myself first. My children and husband were suffering due to my depression and mood swings. They deserve to have the best Mum and wife possible and I can only be that if I am happy in myself. Sustainable Change is the lifeline I needed and I am grateful every day to Alex Neilan and his team for not giving up on me.

I saw an advert on Facebook and shortly after leaving my details I was contacted by Sustainable Change. I was asked focused questions to determine my wants, and from the outset I felt heard and understood. There was no pressure or hard sell, Alex was completely transparent about the cost of the programme. I was given access to lots of free resources including the Metabolic Mastery Course. I now feel I have a better understanding of realistic changes that I can implement to achieve my goal.

Sustainable Changes helps me to eat well, move more and love myself in body and mind
I started the Sustainable Change programme in October 2025 and I am delighted to continue. Before joining I was tired, overweight and had heel pain so bad I could barely walk. It has massively helped me with nutrition, exercise and particularly with developing a positive mindset. I love Alex Neilan's talks on Monday to Thursday mornings on Facebook Sustainable Change Weight Loss Support Group - he is so encouraging and lights up my day. Some of the positives he mentions are: GLK - Gratitude, Love and Kindness; movement improves mood; food is fuel; not dead, can't fail; 54321 - do it now; self-worth is my responsibility; better is enough. I am also grateful for the advice and help from many professionals, including dieticians, psychologists, physios as well as my coach Rab who encourages me when I've struggled. Highly recommend Sustainable Change.

In 12 weeks I’ve gone from a size 28 to a 18-20 I’ve lost 60 cms and 2 stone
I was struggling to loose weight that I had gained after loosing my husband, I had wrecked my metabolism on Monjarno lost 3 stone, but my energy levels were through the floor but I hadn’t changed a dress size! I was wasting money on something that wasn’t helping.
I was struggling to care for myself and my
House and only doing 500-600 steps a day, arthritis in my knees and hips was limiting my health, I felt like I was waiting to die.
Alex, my coach and the rest team of multidisciplinary team at the sports dietician taught me that I was worth it and I could do it. Through kindness and gratitude you learn to adapt your attitude inwards and outwards.
Im now down 60 cms, 25lb in weight, and I’m now in a size 18-20 (previously size 28). I want to thank Alex Neilan and The Sport Dietitian, the Sustainable Change approach has taught me how to achieve what I really didn’t believe was achievable.
If your nervous about starting you are in safe hands with them, you’ll find out that putting yourself first is a priority you needed to put in place and you’ll realise that there is life after 50 and the menopause.

Early days
Difficult to give an honest opinion currently. I have received links to free information which I have started to view. I find the amount of initial contact a little daunting im not always able or in the right frame of mind to engage. I have however expresseed this and the contact has reduced considerably. I will keep trying to use the free subject matter received in the hope that it
helps. I will say I have not been pressured into paying any money for any materials received so far. That is very important as some reviews indicate a pressure to pay for courses. I am not in a position to pay thousands for help so appreciate the content received for free so far.

I reached out to Alex for help, we had a long conversation about my life, lifestyle and current situations.
Due to my current work situation I don’t have any spare money for a personalised program but Alex was so good with information and he has given me access to his support group live and the metabolic Mastery course for free.
Rather than just leaving me without any help.
I can’t recommend talking to him enough.
He asks questions that make you think carefully about you and your lifestyle and what could be changed.
Even if you are unsure what you want/need, it really is worth reaching out and asking Alex for advice.
I feel so much better knowing I’m not the only one who can feel confused and let down by our society and system when it comes to our weight and health.

10kg Weight Gone, Confidence has returned and I can Move again!!
Alex Neilan, The Sport Dietician and his incredible team are completely first class! Let me explain... I had struggled with yo-yo style dieting and exercise my entire adult life, I have been an unfit size 6 and a stronger size 14 (UK sizes) and everything in-between but when my 50's arrived with the accompanying menopause ramping up to being in full swing I felt the biggest I had been in years, nothing I did would work and I found myself in a constant spiral of trying to figure out what would be best for me to try - should I do intermittent fasting, should I go with a carb free diet, would hitting the gym 5 days a week be the best option.... with all the conflicting information out there on social media from so called experts offering quizzes to find your body type, I was drowning in information and a lot of it made no sense or just sounded wrong. I did actually find Alex on Facebook, he was doing one of his morning lives and for some reason I didn't keep scrolling, I stopped and watched. He was very good, very sincere and seemingly very knowledgeable especially in the area of women's dietary requirements and what happens when we hit menopause. So I then went to look into him some more as I couldn't believe this Irish guy was the real deal... how wrong I was!! I signed up for some of the FREE information he was offering at the time and joined The Sustainable Change a couple of weeks later. And it's the best decision I have ever made concerning my weight, diet, lifestyle and mental health. It has also benefitted my partner too who has made some significant changes to his diet & lifestyle leading him to nearly 3 stones weight loss since September 2025. My weight was severely impacting my health (and life) I was a little over 12 stones when I started and my exercise levels were pretty much non existent - mainly due to health issues but nevertheless, for someone who spent 90% of her adult life very active, I knew I wasn't moving enough. I have psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia and currently waiting for to see if I have MS to top it off! I also had multiple bi-lateral strokes in Feb 2024 due to a rare brain condition (from which I have made a near perfect recovery) and I also have a rare condition in my spine which causes cysts in my spinal column which can't be removed, so I have my fair share of health issues for sure! But I had started to let them dictate my fitness (and life!) and had pretty much written myself off at 52yrs old. My weight was increasing and it was having a massive impact on my health. plus I just felt horrible, I spent most of my life a size 8/10 so being at the stage where I opted for elastic waistbands, XL sized tops and clothes that would hide my figure was depressing. Alex and his team have turned this around for me, with mindset coaches, my personal trainer who is there 7 days a week if I need to reach out and Alex's lives on FB which he does come hell or high water, he's so committed to helping us loose weight and turn ourselves around, its truly inspiring. I have lost 10KG since Sept'25 and am now back in a size 10 but more importantly, I am able to move more now than I have for years. With all my conditions taken into account, my PT has devised a workout for ME that I can do at home in half an hour and my daily step count is increasing every day, to the delight of my 3 doggo's!! I was of course sceptical to start with, but having done my research into Alex I decided to go for it and it truly was the best decision I've made for my health, weight and mindset. I was nervous of course and found things overwhelming at times in the beginning but the entire team are there to ensure you handle everything in a way that works for you, after all any change you make has to be sustainable otherwise you won't succeed long term. If you are nervous about starting jump on some of Alex's live's on FB, watch some of the past ones and trust yourself that you can do this. One thing Alex said when I was watching one of his lives's was 'If you fail to plan, you can plan to fail in old age' or words to that effect! It really resonated with me - I don't want to be an overweight, immobile woman in my latter years, I have so much to live for and when grandchildren are in my life I want to be able to get on the floor and play with them, take them on holidays and enjoy myself with them - not be the grandma who sits in the chair watching on who they only visit occasionally because I can't play with them etc. Basically I decided I needed to make me a priority after years as a single mum who always put everyone else's needs first. If I didn't then I wasn't going to succeed in this next stage of my life and at the end of the day, life is too short anyway without spending it feeling uncomfortable in my own body, unable to do the things I want to achieve! Alex and the Sustainable Change team are the real deal, they are worth it and so are you!

I gained back belief in myself
Before joining the TSD I was feeling very unwell, exhausted and stressed. I was obese and needed to make some desperate changes. I was depressed, frustrated with not being able to shift the weight and felt embarrassed about my body. I wouldn't go to a gym as I felt gyms were just for skinny people.
I have been working on more than the weight. That is the side affect of the emotional and mental changes.
Binge eating came from emotional challenges and stress that had built up over the years. Not sleeping and post menopause made it more challenging to drop the pounds.
Now I am still losing and learning from the habitual patterns I had become used to when dieting. Undoing the unhelpful habits. Dieting had made me fat. TSD is not a diet it's a way of life. It encourages education, workouts, food planning and promotes therapeutic support for wellbeing.
I got into the gym and had the confidence after a while of home workouts to join a strong her programme. I found myself growing stronger every day. I'd check in with my coach every day as well, being accountable and asking for support if I needed it. He helped me not to give up when I really wanted to and to keep believing that sustainable change was possible even after gains.
I would recommend it to anyone at whatever stage of change you are at. Advice from coaches, physios, counsellors ensure you are well supported. The community on Facebook helps you feel connected and developing home and gym workouts promotes choice and encourages daily activity.
If you are sat on the fence, let yourself be worth it. Think about what it would cost you not to do it !

After reaching out through Instagram I spoke to Alex in depth about my goals. From asking me just a few simple questions he was able to provide me with information on how to reach my targets sustainably. He provided advice and numerous links to follow, all free of charge! Despite offering a monthly subscription there was no pressure whatsoever to sign up. He was happy to help in any way possible, which I found extremely refreshing!

How I got from using a Mobility Scooter to Training for HYROX
Before I joined the Sustainable Change Program (SCP), my MS was controlling my life. I was struggling to wark further than 200m and I could only stand for 2 minutes at a time whilst leaning heavily on my walking stick. When I had to go out and buy a mobility scooter it was the final straw and I decided I was going to put myself first.
I was nervous about signing up to SCP because I’ve tried other programs and they didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know, and the results were never sustainable.
Working with Alex Neilan and the team has changed my life. Not only have I lost several inches off my waist, my fatigue, balance and mobility has vastly improved. I no longer use my scooter, I can walk for at least a mile, and I have even started training to take part in HYROX next year. I am so much more confident and happier in myself, but I know my journey has only just begun. I look forward to continuing to work with the team going forward and improving my quality of life.

Alex Neilan and Sustainable change is all about the tools
In my 50s I found my weight continued to increase, despite trying lots of different methods to lose it. Alex Neilan The Sport Dietician popped up on Facebook when I was feeling particularly low, feeling nothing worked. The word sustainable resonated so I arranged a call and signed up. I have Type 1 diabetes so staying healthy to avoid diabetic complications is really important to me. My biggest win is losing almost 5kg in 12 weeks with the support of my coach and Alex’s team of experts on health and nutrition. I have some way to go to get to my goal but I have the tools and support to get there and I know I will.

SUSTAINABLE CHANGE. I left my details as it looked like something different and British I could try. Alex contacted me by text soon after and asked some questions showing a lot of knowledge and understanding. He was very upfront and honest telling me the cost. Sadly I am not in a position to afford it at this moment in time. Alex sent me a FREE link to receive a lot of information and videos for Sustainable Change. I thought there was a catch but there is non he just wants to help people and spread the word.
He is inspiring and it feels so manageable with his clever tips on what to do before every meal, swapping foods. After watching a few videos I was that encouraged I created a excellent meal that I was proud to eat having an apple before hand. Thank you Alex good luck in your mission for 2026.
