Power-based running feels much more effective with Stryd

I’ve been using Stryd 5.0 for running training and overall I’m very satisfied with it.

Training by power feels much more consistent and effective for me than training only by heart rate or pace, especially in changing conditions like hills, wind or cold weather.

The data is stable, the ecosystem is well designed, and power-based training gives a much better understanding of actual running effort.

It definitely helped make my workouts more structured and controlled.

My only real frustration is how limited some of the metrics are without a subscription. I can understand locking advanced insights and deeper analysis behind the paid plan, but not having access to basic statistics like time spent in power zones for each workout feels excessive. That kind of information seems fundamental for power-based training and would make the free experience much more complete.

My favorite running gadget

I've been running for nearly 20 years. I love my Stryd pod. I had a Stryd 2.0 and upgraded to a 5.0. Both have been incredible training tools. I love the variety in the Stryd recommended workouts (that I manage with my apple watch). Highly recommend.

Extremely Disappointing Customer Support from Stryd

I’ve been a loyal Stryd user and take good care of my gear, so this was pretty frustrating. A small piece of the pod casing broke under normal use, nothing abusive, nothing out of the ordinary, and now the device won’t clip in or stay secured.

I reached out to Stryd expecting at least some level of support, especially given the nature of the issue. Instead, I was told the device “cannot be repaired” and is no longer covered, and the best they could offer was 15% off buying a new one. They even suggested using Velcro as a workaround, which honestly feels like a joke for a premium product.

For a company that positions itself as high end and performance focused, this response was really disappointing. When a product fails from what appears to be a design or durability issue during normal use, the expectation is that the company stands behind it. Offering a small discount to replace something that shouldn’t have broken in the first place doesn’t sit right.

Great product when it works, but this experience with customer support definitely changes how I view the brand going forward.

Stryd CX is a real problem

Stryd CX is a real problem. I asked them for pointers on how to use the device and they just said “go running and use power zones”. I don’t know what that means.

So I post on their Reddit explaining their customer service did not help me and I asked the community for help. Then Stryd bans be saying I violated community rules.

Appalling experience and I will be returning.

No Order Fulfilment and They Don't Care

Have a Stryd already and ordered a charger in November 2025 because I lost mine. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS!!! They said they won't ship it until the middle of March 2026. No explanation. No apology. I'm done with them.

Stryd customer support is the worst ever!

Bought a second hand Stryd a 2 weeks ago. The previous owner told me he factory reseted it, but apparently not, because when I 1st connected it to my new "virgin" account it pulled 45 of their runs into my account.

I factory reseted the pod and deleted all those from the calendar, but it looks like the RSB history still contains that data, because I see graphs from Nov, Dec 2025.

In the facebook Stryd community someone, who seems to be working at Stryd told me to contact customer support. So I contacted Stryd support.

1st I got an AI response telling me I'll get an answer within 24 hours. Red flag, but OK. And then 6 days later indeed I got a response:

"I have cleared that now."

They deleted not only the history from the previous owner, but also all MY runs! This would've been excusable if I wouldn't tell them in my original query what needs to be removed OR if they told me there's no way to remove only part of it and I get to decide whether to leave it as is or reset everything OR maybe even if they just did that right after my original query (already would've lost 3 of my runs) But waiting for 6 days (accumulating more runs) and then resetting everything without me approving it!???!?!?!?!

I purchased a Stryd Next Gen which…

I purchased a Stryd Next Gen which suffered a complete hardware failure within the first 6 months. The device no longer broadcasts any Bluetooth signal and cannot be detected or paired with any watch or phone.

I have spent over one month following all troubleshooting steps requested by Stryd support: multiple devices (Garmin and COROS), different phones, full resets, official app pairing, and independent BLE scans (LightBlue). The device simply does not emit BLE.

Despite this being a clear hardware failure within warranty, Stryd has not offered a replacement or refund. Instead, they keep insisting on video calls and repeated demonstrations, which do not change the fact that a device that does not broadcast Bluetooth cannot be paired by definition.

As an EU consumer, this experience is unacceptable. EU law is clear: failures within the first 6 months are presumed manufacturing defects and must be resolved efficiently.

At the time of writing, the issue remains unresolved. Very disappointed with how warranty cases are handled.

why upgrade if you also need subscription to see your data

I’ve been using Stryd for a long time and have generally been happy with the product. However, I now regret upgrading to the newer model.

What I did not fully appreciate is that without a subscription I can no longer see my footpath. This means that when you buy a new model — which is already expensive on its own — you are effectively forced into a subscription if you want to use what should be basic capabilities of the pod. The hardware collects the data, but you are not allowed to see it unless you pay monthly.

This feels over-prescriptive. I understand charging for advanced analytics and coaching tools, but blocking access to fundamental features of the device you already purchased crosses a line. It turns a premium piece of hardware into a gated product that never truly belongs to you unless you keep paying.

For long-time users, this change feels like a step backward and makes upgrading far less appealing.

Subscription Model Scam

The Stryd pods do work fairly well so if you are a serious runner looking for marginal gains, this may be a good product for you. However, their subscription requirement is a scam. As a casual runner looking to improve for a half-marathon, I signed up for the only option which is an annual membership billed monthly. Due to an injury, I no longer need the service but you can not cancel and good luck getting a response from Stryd.

Similar experieence to others

I have what seems like similar issues to others here - issues with the stryd in terms of pace/distance measurement accuracy combined with honestly gobsmackingly terrible customer service.

I have had my Stryd for years and have overall been pretty happy with it. I have found the pace and distance measurements pretty accurate and have used them over GPS to avoid issues in cities etc.

But I ran a half marathon last weekend on an AIMS certified course and I measure 22.72km (14.1miles). I am sure I didn't run the perfect line but there's no way I was that inefficient. And others running the race all got close to the half marathon distance.

My power numbers I also believe were off. My critical power increased by 49W after this single run and my predicted marathon time improved by about 25minutes. I wish this were true but....no. I've been running for years. Unfortunately improvements like that are just not realistic for me.

Since then I've looked at some historical runs I've done using the Stryd on the same course and noticed different distances reported - when running in the same shoes and around the same pace. This is an out and back course and I don't always finish at the same spot so I just measured from the start to a major road intersection. According to Gus this makes the data irrelevant. I'll accept there's room for human error there - maybe I ran like a metre or even two further on one of the runs. Let's be geneerous and say 10metres even. But I'm seeing differences of 250m on a ~5.6km section. That's an almost 5% difference.

I raised the above with Gus at stryd but he was frankly rude, defensive and condescending and all he told me was to run a calibration. I point out that a calibration won't account for differences on the same course but as above, he tells me that data is irrelevant. I genuinely wanted to look for an answer here. And to be honest I was open to the idea that maybe, given my stryd is old, there was just an issue with it and that would've been fine - I don't expect any electronic product to last forever. But I just really found him impossible to deal with. He really comes across as putting his rhetoric first and not wanting to hear customer feedback that contradicts this at all.

I was a happy stryd user and subrsciber to their premium platform and I would have bought another stryd if that was the conclusion we came to. Now I guess I'm back to pace and RPE. Which maybe is not a bad thing anyway.

Edit: Just to update I pointed out to the stryd team that my power in the half marathon as measured by stryd was the same as I was running (hard) 400m reps in just 12 days earlier and that this was impossible. The response was "Being incredulous is not something Stryd customer support can help with." - what kind of a response is that? The data is clearly wrong. Anybody who knows anything about running knows that's not possible. So they are being incredulous, sticking so hard to "the data is right" when it obviously is not.

Brilliant run tech product, brilliant customer service. Been using it for years,

Pacing to power is so much more efficient than speed when you have to deal with hills and wind.

Also great for distance once calibrated when GPS is unreliable, eg tall buildings, trees, bends on a track etc.

If there is one weakness I'd say adapting your power to warmer conditions is very subjective per runner and one can come unstuck easily if you follow blindly, just like with pace I guess. So I do still track HR too alongside.

Unreliable product, underestimated pace during marathon

Unreliable product

I was reasonably happy with stryd - I'm not sure it's actually particularly useful if you want to improve as a runner but I can appreciate power is something fun to play around with. I was massively let down by it on a marathon. It seemed to be pretty reliable during training however during the marathon it was underestimating my pace. This led to me running faster than I should have been which when you're running at 3:33 min/km is a big problem! Everyone around me had similar (correct) times and they were using apple or garmin. The watch said I had run 41.3 km by the end. As you always run a little further than a marathon during a race it means it was off by more than a km. When I approached Angus he said it was due to the marathon being mis-meausred. This was Brighton marathon in 2024 and there have been no reports of anything like that. I would have liked to see Angus take some ownership of the issue. I'm guessing it's a culture problem over at stryd that he didn't. I've switched to using the apple watch and am very happy with that decision! The exercise app is much less buggy than the stryd one, which would occasionally not upload runs.

Unreliable staff, average product.

I'm a content creator that was doing some content with Stryd, working directly with a guy called Angus Nelson. He was nice to begin with, but absolutely randomly out of the blue requested to cut all ties with our small company for absolutely no reason and even suggested that he should be owed some money. He made absolutely no reasoning for this, he seems like he might have some issues going on, but at the minimum I feel like we probably should've had some sort of reasoning as to this random outburst. Even worse- he began telling athletes (clients of ours) not to work with us- I believe this is illegal/Slander at a minimum.
Again - this was without any reason whatsoever. If there was a reason we are dumbfounded as to why it wouldn't be brought to our attention and discussed like any reasonable human being would behave like.
The product was OK, it did cause my Garmin watch to have a few issues now I can't seem to solve.

Stryd is very inaccurate

Stryd is very inaccurate when it comes to measuring of the distance. So in that regard it is total useless. When contacting their customer support there’s no help or understanding at all.

I have measured the distance on track, at races and in training. The accuracy is just very bad compared to Garmin and COROS.

Just avoid. Terrible customer experience

My Stryd pod never seemed quite right to me. Distance always seemed to be a little off. Then when racing it is way off when using adios pro 3s. 10k races would routinely come up as 8.7km or similar and experienced the same over other distances. Contacted customer support who were initially very interested in trying to troubleshoot with multiple software updates that made it infinitely worse. Initially Stryd promised me a replacement pod and since told me that a replacement pod won't fix the issue. Well if a replacement won't fix it then the product and software is deeply flawed. They won't tell me what the issue is and now they just ignore my request for help to resolve. Do yourself a favour and keep your money. Bitterly disappointed with my experience using stryd but more so with the way in which the customer service operates. Complete lack of respect for the customer

Beyond useless

The product is essentially not good at all. It doesn’t provide accurate data, doesn’t connect very well and requires manual syncing after workouts etc.

The 30 day return policy is a bit of wordplay. If you buy from Europe, you will have to return it to an address in Colorado and you will have to cover shipping costs and import charges/taxes - which is widely unreasonable.

Also, the customer support is awful. I dealt with a chap called Angus who was beyond useless. He would provide generic one sentence responses to every email and would avoid answering the questions or addressing anything I was saying. Opting to just copy and paste the same responses repeatedly.

As a runner, avoid this product - it’s about as useful as strapping a potato to your shoe.

As a customer, avoid this company; they’re a mess.
