I’ve been struggling to find the correct balance between strength and flexibility for steel edging when I came across Steelscapes. I asked some questions online then had an actual conversation on the phone where Dawn wanted to understand what I wanted to achieve then advise accordingly. She even smiled through the multiple requests for amended quotations. And the end result? Wow. Better than I had imagined. Six stars out of five. Honestly.
Ordered 6mm edging. Great looking product, nice and chunky and well engineered
Ordered an internal corner instead of an external corner. I contacted Steelscapes who said this wasn't a problem and that they would replace it FOC. This was on Monday and I received the replacement on Wednesday

Steelscapes provide the best edging in the world!
Easy ordering process and installation was very simple and easy to follow. We live in a new build with what was before a very boring rectangle garden… however this edging has transformed it! The 3mm edging we ordered meant we could add curved borders so that our garden didn’t have a linear box feel to it. We are beyond pleased with the outcome!
To summaries - An absolutely fantastic product and service to support. We also love the fact it’s been produced close to our home.

Good product; top end prices for edging but worth the money
To contextualise what I am about to write: my partner and I have a combined age of over 130, so we are not “young” and neither are we inexperienced. Our experience of metal fencing is limited but not non-existent. We have made and erected metal fencing in the recent and distant past- but using steel we have bought from the likes of The Metal Store and Austen Knapman.
We chose Steelscapes so we did not have to bother with various calculations and the logistics of what components to buy from where. It was a larger job than most of our previous. We liked the look of the finished product on their website. To have everything ordered from our specification arriving at the same time from the same place seemed, we hoped, to make life easier. We already had the necessary tools, such as drills and angle grinder, and the reviews on TrustPilot are good. We were confident we would manage to prepare and complete the woven metal fencing. We ordered nearly 15 metres length of slats to cover a height of 1 and a half metres, plus all the poles, plus two gates- which Steelscapes bespoke made for us- and did so very well. It was not cheap.
It soon became clear that the steel provided was not uniform- the hardness varied. This was obvious when cutting, and even more so when drilling. One drill bit on one piece of steel at the start of our work gave up far too quickly. When we contacted Steelscapes the reply was: “the drill bit supplied should have lasted for more than twice what you had to do - they are a quality Dewalt product - we choose not to supply cheap inferior products.
We have arranged for another one to come out to you directly through Amazon as a gesture of goodwill
In all honesty the wall mounting kit we have supplied costs us more than we charge out as we want our customers to have a good experience with the installation & this is the 1st time this has happened.
Your replacement drill bit will be delivered to you directly tomorrow”
The promised drill bit never arrived. It is now more than a week; we finished the fence after buying our own replacement drill bits.
We know how to work with steel. We have done it before. In fact, we ended up buying a few more of our own drill bits as the problems continued. We also got through more metal cutting angle grinder discs than we anticipated.
I would recommend Steelscapes- if you want a relatively quick and simple pre-prepared diy solution, can afford it, and are prepared to spend extra on sundries in order to complete the job. We shall not be using them again. But then, hopefully, this fence will see us out….

We would like the opportunity to respond to the concerns raised.
Regarding the varying steel hardness, this is the first time we have had feedback about this. All mild steel has to conform to British standards and comes with quality certification. There should not be any variation. That said different steel sections are likely to behave differently when cutting or drilling due to varied thickness and shape. We should perhaps details this in our instructions.
With regards to the drill bit failing. We sent a replacement straight away and while we received notification this was delivered it appears our client did not receive it. We are sorry for this, we did not know this until we read this review so had no opportunity to put this right.
When the first drill bit failed we explained to our clients that a slow speed and gentle drilling pressure will ensure the drill bit will outlast its intended use. We supply Dewalt extreme 2 drill bits which is the same as we use in the workshop as we understand the frustration of low quality bits.
We have since updated our instructions to include tips on drilling steel.
Regarding our wall fixing kits, as mentioned in our email copied in the review, it may seem unlikely but these do in fact cost us more than we charge when supplied with our fences, for £20 + vat we supply a Dewalt drill bit, resin fixing compound, applicator gun, nuts and 2m of threaded bar. We do this to encourage clients to use these kits as it should make installation easier for them.
While supplying third party products to accompany ours can lead to issues, we feel the convenience to our customers of supplying these kits outweighs the potential pitfalls.
We were saddened to read this review and sorry our customer did not receive the experience they had hoped. We are a small company providing an innovative product and we take any complaints seriously and frankly to heart, and try and learn from them.
