By far the most pleasant car buying experience I’ve ever had. Nothing was too much trouble, px, change of class on v5, private plate, full service and all MOT advisories acted on. Minor fault with a switch promptly sorted. Staff polite and helpful in particular Steve in the workshops and Carwen in the Brecon sales office. Highly recommend, 5* all the way!

Took the truck in for a service, bought it a year ago from the Llandrindod branch but Brecon is closer to where I'm based so I went there. Friendly staff behind the desk, dropped my keys off, walked into Brecon to do some odd jobs. Got a call a few hours later saying the truck was ready, headed back and picked it up. All straightforward and easy. MOT was £55 Service was £140. Very thorough overall and they even painted a scratched patch on the bumper despite not being a body shop.

Brilliant experience with Spa Motors. Purchased a used pick up truck from the Brecon Branch, no hard sell and Carwyn from the sales Dept was very good. Purchase was quick and easy, on collecting the truck and as promised it was serviced, fresh MOT and new tyres fitted. After a few weeks a minor issue with the gearbox appeared, a call to the service desk and the truck was booked in and repaired under warranty. I also had a tow bar fitted by them, very good value and a really neat job done, the staff on the service desk are very efficient. Have to say I’ve had an excellent service from Spa Motors. Highly recommend them.

Darren and the team were so accommodating when I came in with sadly a blown head gasket on my Ford Ranger. I can’t thank the team at brecon enough for just being super helpful and empathetic to my rather annoying issue. After a speedy diagnosis on the truck they gave me the plan going forwards and I’m very happy considering the circumstances.

We bought a car from Spa Motors in Brecon in November and would definitely go back. Carwyn was great, no pressure attitude but very helpful and honest. He kept us up to date with when the car would be ready for collection. He made sure the car was ready earlier than usual as our request. We were able to complete paperwork at home online with ease and Carwyn made sure we were happy with all aspects of the sale before completion. The car was immaculate when we picked it up and agreed changes were made within 2 weeks of sale (new windscreen), with a driver picking up our car and leaving us with a courtesy car for convenience. "Spa Motors are proud to present this lovely example." I went to view and test drive a 1.6 VW Golf SE - MK68 WTE. It was advertised at £16,990 with 35,783 miles on the clock. At this top price I was expecting the car to be exceptional. Disappointingly that was not the case. There were a number of paintwork/bodywork issues all around the vehicle, the front numberplate was cracked, the trim on the front valance was damaged and the underside was damaged/scraped. The interior had not been throughly valeted, dirt was still evident on the upholstery, dashboard, switches, plastic trim and gear selector. The lack of attention to detail in the presentation felt sloppy and unprofessional. When I turned on the ignition the service light and 'replace key battery' light came on. The salesman said the car was an ex-lease hire vehicle. In my experience this is something to be cautious about as lease hire owners can take less care of their vehicles. The car drove well enough on the test drive. I asked to see the service history. The last and only time this vehicle has any record of being serviced is at 8,100 miles. There are no invoices to prove it has been serviced since, either by VW, or an independent garage. This seems strange and unusual as, in my experience, lease hire contracts require the lessee to maintain the vehicle as per the manufacture's service schedule. To me the lack of service records on a car of this age/mileage is a major red flag and does not qualify the vehicle for the top dollar price being asked. The salesman appeared indifferent and was unforthcoming on the issues I raised and stated rather bluntly that Spa Motors do not do discounts on the advertised price. When I pointed out the obvious shortcomings he said he could speak to his boss. The trade valuation for this year and model of Golf SE is around £14,250. In my opinion the forecourt price and marketing of this car was neither appropriate, nor transparent. The marketing did not mention the lack of any service record from 8000 to 35,000 miles and the price did not reflect it. Without manufacturer's scheduled servicing the wear and tear on mechanical parts will have a major and costly impact on the life and durability of a vehicle. For this reason no service record obviously devalues a car. These issues were undisclosed by Spa Motors who knew the facts, which could catch out inexperienced/unsuspecting buyers who are not technically minded and unaware of the critical importance and value of a documented service history. Good faith is required when spending a significant amount on a secondhand car. Unfortunately on this occasion Spa Motors did not inspire confidence.

P.S. Since writing my review yesterday I have today purchased a VW Golf 1.6 TDI SE a year younger than the car I viewed and test drove at Spa Motors. The car I have bought is from a VW approved used vehicle dealership, it has extended two year warranty and roadside assistance with two free future services at any VW or VW approved garage. The vehicle has a couple of thousand more miles on the clock but with a full VW service history and has 'Adaptive Cruise' control. The immaculate paintwork has been sprayed with a dirt resistant coating and the seats are treated with a stain resistant product. It literally looks brand new. All this for £16,300, just under £700 cheaper than the Golf Spa Motors tried to sell me for £16,990, which was poorly prepared, had bodywork defects, without any service history documentation and all the uncertainty with future reliablity, maitenance costs and durability. I hope you find my review helpful in highlighting possible pitfalls when buying secondhand cars.

Only 4 stars because you missed to spray the one back wheel. Should be 4.5 stars apart from that car turned out to a very high standard
