Equipment arrived with hydraulic leak, so lost half a day. They couldn’t collect machine until three days after hire finished, so sort of made up for the lost half a day! Deposit refunded 8 days after the machine was collected, with some prompting needed. There was no breakdown of charges, I presume the charged me for diesel, but no idea how much that was, as bill/invoice not received. Useful range of equipment, but patience needed when dealing with them.

After being left high and dry by Travis Perkins (salford), we needed to get a machine on site urgently. I called in to the depot in Trafford Park and asked if they had the plant available, after a quick computer search they found the machine in the premises and made it available. Easy booking process (I didnt have an account) and the prisitine machine was readied and put in the van for me. I couldnt have asked for a more pleasant and professional encounter. The Manager and his team are magnificant and go teh extra mile. When deciding on your next supplier go straight to Smiths Hire.

Thanks to Smithshire, Taurus Park, Warrington. I hired a micro digger for a day. The staff were helpful with choosing which one would do the job. It was delivered when agreed and controls demonstrated to me. Very satisfied and would use them again.

I hire a heavy duty rotavator every year for a few days for our field. Very helpful staff when ordering. Lovely and very helpful delivery / collection person. Even got a personal call to confirm the deposit refund. Got the impression they are making a real effort with customer service. Good price and best condition in one I've ever hired. Definitely recommend.

Hired a scissor lift from the Preston branch. It was a day and a half late, then they took 3 days to pick it back up.
I emailed the manager to make him away of the problem and got no reply.
Charging £70 for delivery and then another £70 for pick up when neither of these dates were kept too is scandalous.
We will not be using this company again.

Last weekend I had the best customer service experience for many years. The people at SMITHS hire, Southport were so friendly and helpful, guiding me through the essentials of hiring an electric planer. Even after I returned it unused there was no hesitation in refunding me the hire fee, the assistant very willingly helping me bring the equipment in from the car. Great people, great place always ready to help even a novice DIYer. Brilliant service - well done.

Went to smiths hire blackburn to hire a lawn scarifier I have an account but paid cash took the machine home to find it was not working it didnt even start i took machine back to shop and they replaced a fuse I again took the machine home and this time it worked but only for about ten seconds I again took the machine back to shop and said forget it and just give me a refund which they did. 2 days later I receive an invoice for payment for the hire I ring them and tell them what had happened but they are now claiming it was user error and the invoice is to be paid . Why didn't they claim it was user error on the 2 times I took the machine back and even give me a refund only to come up with this excuse 2 days later.
I have used scarifiers before and no way was there any user error, needless to say I have cancelled my account with smiths hire which I have had for many years.
Smiths hire service has got much worse over the last couple of years and I believe they are sending out equipment without proper checks

Bolton branch customer service is horrendous. Staff member called John is very arrogant and I think he has forgotten who pays who and without customers he'll be out of a job. This is the first ever dealing I've had with Smith Hire Bolton and will be the last. I didn't continue with any hire and took my business elsewhere.

I hired a wheel barrow for the weekend, the guys were so helpful, helped to get in the car and I was unfortunately a day late on returning it, but kindly didn’t charge any extra

Hired a porta-loo for an event which was filthy, didn't flush and wasn't picked up until a week after the agreed collection date. Was absolutely not fit for purpose. After 2 months of complaining, they're not prepared to back down on any refund/compensation. Absolute joke. Will never use again.

I set up an inquiry in their contact form on their website re hiring a ladder. Included my email address and phone number. I never heard back from them. If they are unable to reply to a simple query from a potential customer then they are probably not much good for any other customer service. Will go elsewhere next time.

- Delivery one day later than agreed due to administative error. Delivery included 3 wrong items; one different model saw; one non fitting trapboard for scaffold; one unusable stabilizer for scaffold.

Although the team is responsive and tried to sort the problems as good as they could, I think they need to substantially improve their quality control.

Excellent service at the Blackburn branch. I hired a vibration plate and a cement mixer on separate occasions. No issues at all with the equipment or renting process and the deposits are always refunded quickly when returning items. Great service provided from Andrew. I will use anytime I need to hire some equipment and would recommend. The rates are excellent too. Great value.

Hired a cable detector and returned to the driver, to discover smiths have been billing me monthly for the last six months to the incorrect email at £154 per month.
Then sent a lost item invoice for nearly £550, this company are useless and i will not be using again.

Today I used the services of Smithhire Bolton for the first time, very pleasantly surprised, friendly and helpful staff, competent, the entire registration process took maybe 10 minutes, the prices are very reasonable, if you need to rent anything, I highly recommend it, I will definitely come back here

In an emergency, as our care home heating went down and needed repairing, we contacted Smiths Hire at the same time as a local branch of a larger hire firm on Monday, to advise and provide a generator and commercial fan space heaters.

Tony and his team responded immediately. They could not have been more responsive, helpful and professional throughout, and a much faster and more personal response than we received from the other company we approached.

Sound experienced advice, a keenness to do whatever was necessary to help us out, even texting and reassuring at 8:30pm. Above and beyond, and very much appreciated.

Equipment sourced from other branches promptly and an offer to attend site to help set up a complicated wiring arrangement.

I can do nothing but highly recommend this firm to anyone requiring their services and expertise.

Hired a carpet cleaner from the Warrington office. Steve carried it to the car for me. Very friendly and helpful. Machine was perfect for the job and inexpensive. Upon returning the cleaner the lady on reception was very pleasant and chatty. Will definitely be returning to hire again.

This company is very low on communication, no organisation, totally indecisive when it comes to arrangement, they could do with a diary and an organiser. Sorry but wont use them again.
