Poor communication and disappointing service

I contacted SLS Solicitors to help with a serious issue involving mice infestation, damp, and mould in my housing association property. Unfortunately, my experience has been very disappointing.

Customer service throughout was poor. I’m not sure if this is because I was a no-win, no-fee client, but I would have expected that to be even more of a reason to act quickly and efficiently. Communication was especially bad. Over the course of the case, I had to deal with three different people, none of whom seemed to be available or responsive. Emails would go unanswered for over a week sometimes with no acknowledgment at all which is completely unprofessional.

After more than a year, the minimal repairs my landlord finally carried out were mainly due to my persistence not the efforts of the solicitors. When it came to compensation, they made little effort to secure anything satisfactory.

If you value proper communication, decent compensation, and basic customer service, I would strongly recommend shopping around. One person from the enforcement team Dylon was particularly rude and dismissive, which only added to the frustration.

Avoid if you can.

I am a landlord and had a very difficult situation with one of my tenants who just stopped paying their rent. SLS were both professional and very supportive. They took the weight of this situation off my shoulders. I've just got back from the local County Court and can report that the hearing went smoothly and really well. The Judge granted the Section 8, costs and rent arrears. I will definitely be using the services of SLS in the future.

My experience has been nothing short of excellent! My landlord was not fixing my home me and my children were living in, my walls had blown plaster in the living room, stairs and hallways I found this by removing the wall paper when we first moved in the walls were so damaged brick work was showing, making it dusty and cold! I also couldn’t put down flooring because I knew the damage would need a lot of work, it would have ruined my new floors. SLS helped me contact them professionally to get this work done quicker than they were doing, I was waiting 8 months in total, and I think it would have been longer had they not stepped in! My disrepair had been affecting my mental health and Emily was empathetic to this and battled to ensure I received all works to be completed and additionally what I wanted to settle the case for. SLS rushed into settlement money, without requesting a moratorium to make sure Sanctuary Housing had truly done the job. If one consider Sanctuary Housing are behind my roof damage (supported by multiple evidence), one would be suspicious about the repairs. A storm broke down shortly after the job was "done" to reveal it was a pretence job. Then, SLS stop representing me properly. It seems they wanted an easy way out. Furthermore, when I asked to cease representing me as I could not trust them since they did nothing to prevent a scaffolding from being erected, 3 months ago: - it is still there! Sanctuary did zero effort to sort it out, meaning they never intended to- SLS rushed into sending a notification of end of representation to Sanctuary, putting me on the line, proving my point: they are not reliable. Furthermore, they send me the same notification in a format which was not readable: if after that you still want to trust them, don't be surprised if they let you down, like they did me.
