Innovative Product, Documentation Needs Improvement

I recently installed a Safiery STAR Tank system along with a STAR Custom interface on my sailboat. The concept is excellent, and I appreciate that the system can communicate with Victron and NMEA 2000 networks.

However, the setup and calibration process has been significantly more challenging than expected. The documentation lacks clear explanations of several key parameters, including the meaning and units of the Full, Empty, Depth, and Size fields within the STAR Custom configuration page. During commissioning I encountered conflicting information between the written documentation, support emails, and instructional videos.

To Safiery’s credit, support has been responsive and willing to answer questions. However, I believe the product would benefit greatly from improved documentation, a complete button-press legend for all device functions, clearer calibration instructions for diesel tanks, and detailed explanations of the STAR Custom configuration fields.

The hardware appears capable, but the onboarding experience could be substantially improved. A revised user guide and more thorough setup documentation would likely eliminate many support requests and make the product much easier for customers to commission successfully.

Safiery single induction cooktop

Safiery single induction cooktop. $285 compared to cheaper units that are less than $100. It worked well on the dozen or so times we used it.
At 14 months old it stopped working, not detecting a pot,
Contacted Safiery. Bad luck, only 12 months warranty.
Avoid this brand.

Good Afternoon Tom, I understand it's frustrating when a unit stops detecting a pot sooner than you'd expect. Safiery induction cooktops carry a 12-month warranty, which runs through your place of purchase, and this unit was bought in December 2024. When we spoke back in April, we worked through the E7 reading, which relates to pan detection, and offered to test the unit and replace the sensor if needed, even though it now sits outside that warranty period. Excellent, thoughtful support.

I am the second owner of a Lifestyle Caravan that uses a Safiery induction cooktop. Unfortunately one of the elements in this dual-element unit stopped working. I called Safiery looking to find a replacement. And although this model is no longer available, I was totally impressed by the great lengths the agent Sameera went to in order to help me figure out my options. She checked for old stock, and then she checked for old test units that might be able to be sold. She sent me update via email every day. Reaching her was easy with no computer menu system bullshit. I was really blown away by how much effort she put in trying to help me out. I wish every company support team operated like this. In the end I was not able to buy an identical replacement, but I knew all my options within 48 hours for the product I have. Very refreshing, Thank you!

Poor communication, emailed and called to no reply, and the few replies I did get were not answering questions and vague. Some main cables in my unit were very undersized, which if not picked up on could have caused serious problems and had been potentially dangerous. Inside my unit were also a number of loose terminations which again could have caused some serious and potentially dangerous issues. The unit was also not cleaned out properly and there were metal shavings and offcuts left inside. There were not enough screws in the side acrylic wall of my unit and one of the holes did not line up. I could go on with my grievances. My recommendation is to not waste your time as this company is notorious for poor communication and if you do have issues, you will likely struggle getting answers.

Hi Darcy,

Thanks for the feedback. Responses to your build queries were provided by email throughout, and we acknowledge a gap in following up after 11 December, going into the end-of-year period. Once we reviewed your file, we booked a no-cost rectification and completed the following:

1. Upsized the internal cabling from the HVSP R10 receptacle to the inverter to accommodate the discharge rating of your third-party battery. The cabling supplied originally met current carrying capacity for the system as built.

2. Supplied and fitted a Victron SmartShunt at no cost. A SmartShunt is not standard on our installations running CAN-bus batteries, as the BMS reports directly to the system. As your battery uses a non-CAN BMS, this was wired accordingly.

3.Reinstated the 70mm rear cables into the HVSP R10 plugs. These had been removed during the 3rd party installation as they were reported unable to be fitted.

4. Completed a full nut-and-bolt check across all terminals and a clean-out of the unit.

5. Corrected several items from the 3rd party installation, including a free-floating external isolation switch and a loose positive terminal on the third-party battery, before they could become a safety issue. Battery connection terminations were reseated with correct-length bolts.

6. Replaced the internal gas fuse on the USB-C charger, which had blown under load.

The system has since been confirmed running correctly. For any future issues, please email support@safiery.com.

Googled the Cartwright company and found they had similar experience too

Bought a startank from Safiery

Bought a startank from Safiery. It's only working sporadically and Bruce is not responding to my e-mails. Before I bought it I asked if it was possible to avoid import duties and he replied that it was possible. I then bought the unit off of his website and then I had to pay import duty anyways. He then responded that I had to order through a EU supplier, which he still hasn't told how to find, as his website is not showing where to find suppliers, and he is not responding.
But the most annoying part is when he is not responding to my e-mails when I am asking for support to an expensive product that doesn't work.
Can't recommend being scammed by Bruce!

On import duties, direct purchases from safiery.com ship from Australia and are subject to the receiving country's import rules. EU customers wanting to avoid this typically purchase through one of our European distributors. We can provide current distributor details on request.

For the STAR-Tank sensor operating intermittently, please lodge a warranty claim at safiery.com/warranty-and-rma/. The STAR family carries a 5-year warranty and our technical team will troubleshoot the unit and provide a remedy if required.

whole system goes together perfectly

Ive just being using a 12V system from Safiery in my Ranger for over 12 months. It just doesn't miss a beat. I flattened the 200Ah lithium battery and it slowly recovered perfectly. What I like about Safiery is they are engineers, not the marketing BS's. The whole system goes together perfectly matched. Lets me get on the important stuff when travelling.
