I filed claim CLM60044299 after my flight QR777 was cancelled due to war-related events (US/Israel strikes on Iran starting February 28, 2026). I incurred $1,797.93 in accommodation costs for an unplanned 3-night stay at Bell Seaside Residence.
SafetyWing themselves sent me an email on March 3, 2026 titled “Evacuation coverage available for SafetyWing members”, explicitly stating that they may cover the cost of getting members to safety due to the ongoing global event. I relied directly on this official communication when arranging the unplanned overnight stay.
I provided every document they requested multiple times:
• Full itemized accommodation bill (my name, dates March 6–9, 2 adults, complete breakdown)
• Flight cancellation proof and new itinerary
• Complete travel itineraries
• Their own March 3, 2026 evacuation coverage email (attached in my submissions)
For nearly 2 months they kept asking for more information. Then they suddenly said the claim was approved. I waited another 2 weeks for the money. When I followed up, they claimed there was “an issue with the bank” and forced me to resend all banking details again — even though everything was already correctly submitted when filing the claim.
In the end they paid only $200 ($100 per day × 2 days under “Unplanned Overnight Stay”). Everything else (including the Evacuation from Local Unrest lines) was denied with $0 reimbursement, despite their own email promising evacuation coverage.
This company actively sent members an email encouraging them to use the evacuation benefit, then completely ignored it when processing the claim. Endless paperwork, long delays, tiny payouts, and excuses. This is not insurance — it’s a fiction that wastes your time and gives false hope.
I will never use SafetyWing again and strongly advise everyone to avoid them. Look for proper travel insurance with real trip interruption and evacuation coverage instead.

I’ve been very happy with the support provided by SafetyWing and the fact that when I explained my situation and provided evidence, they’ve reimbursed the financial expenses incurred. I also love that in an online world which is being overtaken by AI bots, I actually get to quite easily speak with real people. I’ll continue using SafetyWing and recommending them to others.

I would not trust SafetyWing at all. I was with them for 18 months. I submitted a claim for basic medical care (a doctor's appointment and blood tests), and they rejected my appeal, hiding behind “pre-existing conditions”, which absolutely was not the case, to avoid paying. The whole process felt dismissive and unfair.
On top of that, their coverage is very misleading. They slyly changed their terms and never informed their customers. Example - initially, you would be covered on a motorbike as long as you wore appropriate headgear and held an international licence. They then updated this without notice to be only insured on a bike of 50CC (pretty much a mobility scooter). I saw this amendment after reviewing my policy and would have had to pay extra for 'adventure sports' just to be properly covered. What if someone had a terrible accident on a motorbike and needed care, thinking they had already paid for this based on the terms they signed up for? I cancelled instead, after realising they won't even pay out for basic medical treatment.
Overall, this feels like a company that will take your money but do everything possible not to pay out when you actually need them. I haven't heard of one real-life successful claim, just influencers being paid to sell their promo codes!

Mako made all the difference for me. After Texting through the online portal, I asked for a phone number to speak with a representative. To my utter shock, Mako was the person who answered the phone. Delightfully, she was already prepared and knowledgeable of the process of my particular contract I was looking to complete. Very Polite, with very excellent spoken english. The agent was able to resolve my issue and give me peace of mind via chat very quickly. She communicated clearly and with a nice speed, as well as allowed me to take my time logging in while assuring me she would assist me and not rush me. Within a little over 24 hours, I had my refund. (They mentioned it could take up to 7 business days.) I will continue to get my travel insurance with them and I recommend SafetyWing.
