Reading reviews here (too late ) I realise I will probably waste hours now trying to get my money back and get nowhere

I had a very disappointing experience with Carla Rent a Car.
Reservation details: Booking made between April 15–21 under the email address [enis.mutlu@r*****a.com]. Carla confirmation number: 3787846. Europcar confirmation number: 1201343194.
I cancelled the extra insurance package one day before picking up the vehicle, yet I was still charged for it. Despite clearly requesting a cancellation, no refund has been processed.
Additionally, there was confusion regarding the vehicle availability. At first, I was told that there was no car, and later a vehicle suddenly became available. This raises serious concerns about the reliability of the service.
To make things worse, the vehicle provided had warning lights on, which suggests that proper checks may not have been carried out before delivery.
The most frustrating part is that responsibility is constantly being redirected between the rental company and the platform, leaving the customer without a clear and fair solution.
I trusted this service, but unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory.
I strongly advise future customers to be cautious when booking through this platform.
If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will escalate the matter to the Consumer Arbitration Board and the European Consumer Centre.

No idea how they are still in business, stupid system of refund money or they are trying to scam you.

Do not book with them unless you need to be angry and loosing your mind.

Extremely Poor Service – Still Waiting Months for Refund
I had a very disappointing experience. My issue started in October, and I am still waiting for a refund of £360.
Despite multiple follow-ups, I have only received repeated assurances that the matter is being “escalated,” with no actual resolution. The last update I received was on 17 February, and since then there has been no progress or clear timeline provided.
It is unacceptable to keep a customer waiting this long for their own money. The lack of communication and accountability is extremely frustrating.
I would not recommend this service based on my experience.
WARNING: Predatory Practices - They stole my money and left my family stranded!
DO NOT BOOK WITH CARLA / UNITED CAR RENT. I had a fully prepaid 7-day reservation made months in advance. Due to a 30-minute flight delay and the long wait for THEIR OWN SHUTTLE, I arrived 60 minutes late. They told me the car was gone, refused to provide a refund, and offered NO alternative. They effectively stole my money. I had to pay for a new rental with Avis (who were professional and confirmed that a 1-hour delay is normal). Carla Rent is a scam that uses "late show-up" as a pretext to double-sell cars and keep your deposit. Avoid them at all costs if you don’t want to be left stranded with your family at Miami airport!
Booked through Carla for an Avis rental…class action??
Booked through Carla for an Avis rental in Winter Haven, FL. Here is exactly what happened:
1. They provided a corporate rate code that Avis could not honor. I was charged $95 more at the counter than what Carla quoted me.
2. I purchased their Full Protection insurance plan. At the counter, Avis required a policy number and insurance provider name to accept third-party coverage. Carla's plan provided neither — not in the app, not in the confirmation, and not in the protection PDF they emailed after I complained.
3. I called Carla during pickup and could not reach anyone. Their AI chat told me it could not locate any information about my protection plan.
4. I was forced to purchase $54 in outside coverage through RentalCover.com on the spot just to drive the car off the lot. RentalCover immediately gave me a reference number and provider name — exactly what Carla failed to provide.
Total out of pocket beyond what I should have paid: $180.
I have documentation for everything — Avis rental agreement, RentalCover receipt, and screenshots of Carla's AI telling me it couldn't find my policy.
A 1.4 rating on Trustpilot tells you this is not a one-time issue. Do your research before booking.

Terrible experience. Had 4 vehicles booked for a party of 19 (including 12 children) on a football trip to Belgium. Flight was delayed and desk was closed when we landed at Brussels Charleroi . Stranded at the airport, at midnight with 12 children. We had to pay 1000 euros in taxi fare to get to our accomodation.

Io che ho cancellato per problemi di salute 12 ore prima, provo a chiamare ma niente, allora tramite chat di assistenza, mi rispondono che non è possibile effettuare il rimborso sulla cifra già versata, in quanto la prenotazione è stata cancellata oltre le 48h prima.
Ma allora perché scrivere che è gratuita la cancellazione fino a 6 ore prima.
Facendo così perderanno sol clienti, a fronte di una cifra irrisoria trattenutami.
I tried to use Carla last week
I went on Carla last June, 2025 and booked a car no problems except the extra fee's at the counter that the car rep. stated was mandatory. Not Carla's fault really. BUT, last week, I attempted to just get a car rental quote and since I wasn't seeing any real differences in prices for cars, I called customer service to ask the rep if my card would be charged now since I didn't actually hit any of the buttons to get a car; She said there were no reservations for me to get a car accept the previous one for last June, 2025. I was glad since I still was looking at other websites.
I looked around, there were websites with great prices. I reserved one and moved on.
Arrived at my destination by AAirlines and they said I had 2 reservations. one for under $500. and one for $1100. I said just use the lower one. I left the airport and looked up the bank information later to find Carla was the higher amount. Well their website has no reservation for this Reservation. I have no email for it. I tried to contact them but it was Sat. they are closed weekends. I sent an email. They proceeded to email Monday and tell me I rented a car. I did not do that. I don't even have any information on a rental. Send it to me. They can't. I have tried to get it from them since then. It's Wednesday and they have sent me nothing except the original information that I input for looking for a car with the dates and times. No prices, no totals, no confirmations, nothing. They tell me that I paid for it because I rented it and they owe me nothing. Wrong.

Awful company. I rented a car but was given very poor instructions on how to locate the rental desk, and no clear guidance on what to do if I couldn’t arrive at the exact time stated.
Unfortunately, my flight was delayed, and by the time I reached the desk it was closed. This left me and my family, including young children, stranded at the airport with no support or assistance.
I requested a refund due to these circumstances, but this was declined. Instead, I was offered “Carla credit,” which is of no use to me as I will not be using this company again.
Very disappointing experience and I would not recommend.

Avoid Carla! Completely unacceptable service. Never use Rentcarla. I couldn’t pick my car because Carla Rental service provided wrong list of documents needed for pickup in their confirmation email. The desk wouldn’t handover the car, and this totally disrupted my travel plans. I requested a refund for the rental which I couldn’t pickup , they don’t accept any responsibility and refuse refund!!

This was one of the worst travel booking experiences I’ve ever had, and I strongly warn others to avoid using Carla.
I booked a rental car through Carla at a confirmed price for pickup in Orlando. When I arrived at the rental desk (America Car Rental), I was suddenly told I had to pay significantly more than what I had already agreed to. They stated I owed $1200.00 for the car plus a $2500.00 deposit and said they didn't know anything about what I had paid to Carla. There was no clear justification—just a demand for more money. When I refused, they canceled my reservation on the spot without my consent, leaving me stranded and forced to scramble for a last-minute alternative.
The most unacceptable part was Carla’s response. Even though I never received the car and the cancellation was completely outside of my control, they refused to refund my money. Their customer service was dismissive and unwilling to take any responsibility for what happened.
This experience felt completely misleading and unfair. The low prices advertised do not reflect what you may actually be forced to pay at pickup, and if something goes wrong, don’t expect Carla to help you or make it right.
Save yourself the stress, time, and money—book directly with a reputable rental company and avoid Carla altogether

The worst service ever with renting car. Only work 9 to 5 and when you call even 9 to 5 Mon-Fri there is no response.
I rent car through them at Barcelona airport and when I arrived, at night, and the rental car OK mobility, office was closed. No message no email that we will not be there. I placed my flight number as well and the time when reserving they knew when I was arriving and still. I had to contract another service, at very hight rate of course (6x more expensive btw).
I contacted on Monday to get my money back and they said "refund decisions are made according to our terms and conditions, and we do not have control over the outcome". I would never contact them. And you should also.
