This is a brilliant course. It has and is really helping me develop as musician . I now look forward with excitement to gigs rather than dreading them. It is full of excellent practical advice and techniques for managing performance nerves and getting most out of playing. Totally worth the money

After 42 years of playing music professionally,I had no idea that there was a mental side that was so in depth and so important until I found this course.my idea was always get on stage and say OK I’m just gonna do the best I can and left it at that. this course brings a whole new light and a whole new way of approaching performance. I encourage anyone whether you’re a beginner or a long-term player like myself to take this course. It is so important to have both a physical game and a mental game when it comes to performance which I never knew existed. this course is in depth and not rushed. Mark is very deliberate in getting the word crossed that you take this at your own speed and progress when you’re ready and the great thing about this is that you could take this course over and over again once you purchase it. thank you Mark. I had already seen some of Mark’s videos on you tube and his advice then had already helped me a lot so I knew when I signed up to his course that it would be good. My performance had been hampered by those annoying voices in my head, you know, the ones that say ‘the difficult bit is coming up now, the one you always get wrong’ so I would be a nervous wreck and it would be wrong. Mark has helpful videos and also there are printable versions of the various modules so that you can study them whenever you like. I had to email him with a question which was answered promptly and gave reassurance

All the course does it get people to look for repeated patterns in songs which any Chord Progression course could do. Overhyped.

I absolute recommend the courses. Mark is a great teacher, I‘m learning a lot, and it‘s fun and inspiring!

I’ve always been interested in the psychology of music and here it is - all organised in a comprehensive organised system. It’s also delivered in an interesting way. I’m being encouraged to address the difficulties I’m having in playing publicly and am finding ways of solving these with Mark’s advice. To top this, we have access to the material after the course ends.

I love the clarity and The organization of the course. Mark is knowledgeable and truthful and straightforward. I have been motivated to follow his recommendations.

At some stage every musician who gets up and plays in front of an audience will experience performance anxiety or ‘nerves’. It affects everyone differently but for some people it can be really debilitating and affect their ability to play anywhere near as well as they can. Performances become tests of endurance and something to be got through rather than enjoyable and fulfilling; it may even put some people off altogether.
Unlock Your Performance is a thorough, multi layered course designed to address every aspect of the causes and consequences of this problem. The 6 modules offer a complete guide to understanding the reasons why it happens and the mental preparation skills and pre performance rituals that give you the best chance of performing to your maximum. It’s a hands on course which requires full input and although some of the aspects may be new and unfamiliar at first the more you try them and get used to how they work in practice the more sense they make.
My advice would be to take the course steadily by working through the various stages and you definitely need to put in the time and effort to get the best results. There is lifetime access to the material though and each of the aspects are backed up by exercises designed to reinforce and improve these tried and trusted techniques.

Very good at pointing out all the "inner self talk " you go thru with a performance!! The different situation you are exposed to and how to mentally handle them all. Just like everything else once you start acknowledging these problems then you can start to control them by practice.. He explains how to do this!! This a must course if you are playing an instrument in front of anybody!!

Dear Mark

I’ve been wanting to write a review for some weeks. I’m a clinical psychologist but play piano non-professionally on the side. A couple of years ago I abruptly learned I suffered from HORRIFIC performance anxiety during an online piano group zoom performance class. This came as a surprise as I’ve done a lot of public speaking in the past and regard myself as someone generally confident.

Like a good psychologist, I set out to conquer my performance anxiety through loads of thought challenging and graded exposure therapy to playing in public. While this did help, after 18 months of treating myself, I was still disappointed in the results. I’d continue to feel anxious, have shaking hands and memory slips that never happened at home. I worked hard on it yet I wasn’t getting the results I expected.

To try to improve this further, I did your Unlock Your Performance program and it was a TOTAL GAME CHANGER for me. Like you said, it was devastatingly effective. While I was using traditional clinical psychology skills which were only helpful to a limited extent, you used skills and theory from sports psychology which made all the difference and gave me the results I so craved.

I had been planning my 50th birthday party for over a year, where I’d decided to challenge myself by playing difficult pieces in front of my family and friends (about 40 people). In the months and weeks leading up to the party I would lie in bed, heart pounding and stomach churning, sometimes crying, wondering why I was doing this to myself as I had had so many experiences that taught me I’m not good under pressure. I have had many derailed performances that always left me feeling disappointed and gutted.

However after completing your unlock your performance program, in the 2 weeks leading up to it (I started 5 weeks before the party), I could feel a massive and significant shift in my confidence. During rehearsals in public, I would no longer get shaky hands and my memory would be strong, sometimes stronger than when I was playing on my own at home as I was so focussed - in the zone - as you’d say.

On the day of the party, even though I had only had three hours sleep the night before and some significant external emotional stressors, I was very readily able to get into the zone and played in such a way that at times I felt immensely connected to the piano in ways I’ve never experienced. I was even able to let go and not hold back which felt amazing! I had the event professionally videorecorded and there were parts listening back that I was surprised it was actually me!

The party was a huge success and a deeply significant milestone for me in my life and I really credit your program with being able to experience this event in such a way that felt wholly satisfying. Even though I did make a couple of slips at different times, as there was so many distractions in the room that I was not able to prepare for, I was able to move forward, without the crushing disappointment that typically accompanied such slips and derailments in the past.

I wanted to thank you personally for such an excellent course. You’re an exceptional instructor and this course should be compulsory for music students at whatever level of skill and performance experience. It was worth every cent and I’d highly recommend it.

I am finding this course very interesting and is providing me a new look at how to practice. The emphasis is how to practice not necessarily what to practice. I’ve always known what to practice, but not how to organize and prioritize the what to practice.
