Milgard Windows & Doors Omdömen 5

We did a huge remodel in 2021 which included replacing the windows and doors. We purchased Milgard Casement two wide windows with grids, confident the high cost and reputation of the company would result in high quality windows to last us for many years. Within a month, we started experiencing multiple issues which have continued to increase. At this point, we are looking at having to replace all of them and we won’t be trusting in Milgard again. As of this morning, when a THIRD handle cracked and broke apart from the hinge, we can only open 3 of 8 casement windows after less than 4 years due to fear of serious injury/damage or a total inability to open or close the windows. All are from manufacturing or design defects, not due to the installation or misuse. This is a huge problem mainly because we do not have air conditioning because opening the windows at night has been successful before now in cooling the house. These include:
1. Struggle to fully close the final gap requiring pressure.
2. We can no longer use 3 of the windows for fear the entire pane will break entirely off the metal arm and fall 2 stories down and hit someone/something. This is because the metal arm has drastically bent so much you can see a significant angled gap between the top and bottom of the window. This happened after less than ONE YEAR.
3. The handle of the crank has simply broken off at the base on THREE windows. The metal just snapped off! Two have broken off in the last 2 weeks and the first one broke off 3 years ago after one year.
4. The screws that attach to the hinges weren’t installed at a 90 degree angle from the manufacturer. This causes the screws to rub against the hinge when closing and every time we do, we worry someday it will cause so much damage, it can no longer be closed. Therefore, we avoid using the windows whenever possible.
5. The screens are very cheaply made but the attachment design to the window is horrible. They frequently blow completely off if it is windy and have broken things multiple times as they fall. One benefit of being unable to open so many windows is we no longer have this problem. Small comfort.
There are also aesthetic issues which we have learned to live with as a bi-product of decreased quality during COVID. These include gaps between the edges of grids and damaged exterior paint.
After the third handle broke this morning, I am determined to ensure our experience is shared with as many as possible who are considering spending a significant amount of money on windows that will fail them.

Not very satisfied with recent purchase of Milgard French Doors. Mine don’t seal shut unless locked (it takes the add’l lock points get the doors to seal fully against the weather stripping). A svc order was entered, and the tech arrived on time and was courteous and professional & made some minor adjustments, but in the end informed me that they were “vinyl doors and you just have to expect that”. I won’t buy Milgard doors again or recommend them to anyone.

We live in Prescott, Milgard has a factory in Prescott Vallet, 20 minutes away. We had a great contractor and his team do a whole house renovation 11/21 - 04/22.
1. Windows and doors took months, yes I get supply chain
2. Windows showed up with missing windows, had to be reordered
3. Windows upon arrival had no screens, reordered
4. Screens arrive, non of them fit, reordered 3 times before they actually fit
5. Every window did not have "airtight" fiber. Every window had to be taken apart to install
6. Springs inside windows were not adjusted, had to be adjusted post install
7. Three (3) windows, keep in mind these are factory new, within three (3) monthsbof install, seals broke, fogged up. It is Nov 2022 still not fixed
8. Two new sliding doors installed, one is so wacked, my wife can hardly open. Second in master bedroom slides beautifully, but will not close completely. Parts ordered, two+ months ago (straightens) need to be installed retrofitted because doors bow in heat and cold No contact from them and I am local!! DO NOT BUY

We've recently had Milgard Ultra windows installed. So far we're very happy with them and the small amount of service experienced to this point. The windows themselves have been a huge upgrade compared to old single glazed (pane) windows in both energy efficiency and noise. We opted for a sound package with dissimilar glass (one pane thicker) and they are pretty quiet. We do wish they'd update the hardware on the Ultra (offer recessed pulls similar to the Essence line, update camlock) and offer matching insect screens to Black Bean. The really need to offer simulated check-rails in the Ultra (they do offer in the cheaper Tuscany lines, so easy fix guys). If you have to have a casement for egress, it's hard to match your other slider or single hung windows. I wish they'd offer double hung in Ultra as well. If they had the aforementioned, I'd give 5 stars!

Their service guys had to come out a few times to get a few insect screens to fit better and perhaps they should have closer inspections before leaving the factory (a few messy silicon dabs here and there). But again, overall a huge improvement and we're very happy. Hopefully they'll last a very long time.

Warranty is terrible. My home was build I 2007/2008 but since I am not the original owner warranty doesn't work anymore. 10 years from installation - Anderson gives you 20 years.
