London Spine Unit - Back and Neck Pain Clinic Omdömen 

I travelled from abroad recently for a discectomy. I received truly excellent care, from all staff and at all points of my treatment. Also very quick and efficient but without in any way feeling rushed. Simply highly recommended on all aspects.

I cannot thank Mr Mo Akmal and his team at The London Spine Unit enough for the care, expertise and support they have provided throughout my spinal journey.

Over the past year, I underwent a steroid injection and PLDD procedure for an L4/5 herniated disc. Unfortunately, I later suffered an acute flare-up which resulted in severe symptoms and ultimately required a microdiscectomy. Throughout every stage of treatment, Mr Akmal and his team were exceptional.

What impressed me most was that they treated me as an individual, not simply as an MRI scan. Whilst imaging is clearly important, Mr Akmal always took the time to listen to my symptoms, understand how they were affecting my day-to-day life, and base decisions on the whole clinical picture rather than relying solely on what the scans showed. As a patient, this made me feel heard, understood and genuinely involved in decisions about my care.

Mr Akmal was always honest and transparent about my options, explaining the benefits and risks of each treatment while ensuring I never felt pressured. His calm, reassuring approach gave me confidence during what was a difficult and often frustrating time.

The professionalism, compassion and expertise shown by the entire team have been outstanding. From consultations through to treatment and recovery, I felt supported every step of the way. Thanks to their care, I am now in a much better place and incredibly grateful for the outcome.

The spine unit treated my chronic back condition as a day patient and I could walk back to the apartment at 6pm. The NHS had previously declined to operate in a private clinic owing to my pre-existing frailties and placed me on a waiting list at a major hospital. Mr Akmal and his team solved my spinal issues and I am back dancing 6 weeks afterwards. I have no hesitation in recommending the London Spine Unit.

I was very nervous about having spinal surgery, but my condition was rapidly deteriorating- to a point where I couldn’t stand up or walk without excruciating pain.
Mr Akmal and his team suggested surgery might help me in a very reassuring way and surgery was booked for 2 weeks later. I had a titanium spacer fitted on 11 May and have not suffered any pain since then. Incredible!! I can walk again, sleep again etc. I have to take it easy for a few weeks following the surgery but I’m feeling stronger each day.

I was a student observer from Malaysia and had an incredibly meaningful and eye-opening experience during my time shadowing at The Harley Street Hospital. From the very first day, every member of staff was so welcoming, kind, and willing to teach, which made the experience even more memorable and inspiring for me as a student.

I was given the opportunity to observe several fascinating surgeries and it was truly amazing to witness not only the technical skill and precision of the surgeons, but also the teamwork, professionalism, and calmness shown by everyone in the operating theatre.

My experience as a high school observer at 19 Harley Street Hospital was truly exceptional. The hospital is, without a doubt, one of the best I have encountered, extremely well organized, with innovative methods and a team of professionals who are consistently kind, respectful, and welcoming.

Every moment I spent in the ward was incredibly rewarding. I learned so much, and the staff were always patient and willing to explain procedures and concepts with clarity and care, which made the experience even more meaningful.

I also had the opportunity to spend time in the RMO clinic and the spine clinic with Dr. Y. Lok and Dr. Akmal. Both were incredibly kind and generous with their time, offering not only medical insights but also valuable life advice. They truly helped deepen my understanding of what it means to be a doctor.

From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed at the ground floor reception by Roxana, who made me feel comfortable right away. I was then received on the first floor by Dominica, who was equally kind and welcoming.

In the ward, Tania, Onuva, and Jay made the experience especially memorable. Being able to observe patient care and procedures firsthand was fascinating, and they were all so supportive, taking the time to guide me and answer my questions.

In the operating theatre, I had the privilege of observing alongside Seyfettin, Tess, and Dulkan, as well as Dr. Akmal and Dr. Deniz. The entire team was not only highly professional but also friendly and engaging. This was particularly special for me, as it allowed me to closely experience the field I hope to pursue in the future.

I also spent time in pre assessment with Sarah, who carefully walked me through various pre surgical examinations, including ECGs, blood tests, and swabs. She explained everything with great precision and kindness, making it a very enriching experience. Additionally, I visited the hair transplant department, where the nurses were incredibly welcoming and took the time to show me their work.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Pina, one of the managers, who welcomed me and checked in on me throughout my time there. She was extremely kind, attentive, and made sure I always felt comfortable and supported.

Throughout the entire experience, I felt heard, supported, and encouraged to ask questions and learn. It was an inspiring and unforgettable opportunity, and I am truly grateful to everyone who made it so special.

I had a wonderful experience during my internship at Harley Street Hospital. Everyone I interacted with was extremely kind, professional, and supportive, which made the learning environment very comfortable and welcoming. After suffering from complex multi-level injury for months which spiralled rapidly. I reached out to the London spine unit clinic and Mr Akmal. I had severe symptoms due to the injury. Mr Akmal completed injections to each affected level which I responded to immediately. So far, it has changed my life. I have had two consultations at the clinic, both with Dr. Akmal. I must say that I was immensely impressed, firstly, with the level of professional care provided. I was seen by the doctor, referred to an MRI, walked back to the clinic and was immediately able to discuss the findings, diagnosis and the treatment plan. Had spine surgery in September cant praise mr Akmal and he’s team they saves my life after 2 years in constant pain he fixed me with a metal plate in my disc which relieved the pain on my nerves I have my life back
