A bad buy
It is a pretty blanket/throw, but apart from dropping fluff (which I’m not bothered about) it has formed what I can only describe as little dreadlocks - presumably it is equivalent to pilling. This had happened very quickly - only a month or two. It already looks pretty awful. Initially I was disconcerted by how very thin it is - I don’t think that matters though, it’s just different to wool or fleece. It’s how poorly it’s worn that means I wouldn’t get one again.

Alpaca fibre is quite different from sheep’s wool or fleece, and its lightness is actually one of its key natural qualities. Alpaca blankets are designed to provide warmth without bulk, which can feel unfamiliar at first if you’re used to heavier textiles.
Regarding the pilling you mentioned: alpaca fibres are very fine and smooth, and during the first period of use it’s normal for some loose fibres to surface, especially with friction. This doesn’t affect the structure or warmth of the blanket and typically stabilises over time. Gentle care, such as light brushing or careful removal of surface fibres, usually keeps the blanket looking its best for many years.

Alpaca is a natural fibre, and some light pilling can occur, particularly at the beginning of use. This is a known characteristic of natural wool fibres and usually settles with time and gentle care.
