bought two

bought two, activated one upon receipt, seems to work , Waited to activate 2nd one, which is a dud, nothing works, followed all steps suggested on their site & noting except then the activated one and knog app started acting glitchy. A better concept than actual working product. Disappointed as I got them for upcomming trip and have no confidence I did anything except waste my time and money. I DID reach out to the alleged "customer service" but all I've gotten thus far is promises to assist but no actual help

Customer Service not the best

I purchased the Scout Bike and, for a while, it worked well. Unfortunately, it then started continually beeping and I have been unable to resolve the issue.

I followed the guidance available on their website, searched online for solutions, and tried every reasonable fix I could find, but nothing changed.

The disappointing part is the lack of accessible customer support. There does not appear to be a customer care phone number, so I emailed as requested, but have not received a response. Appears they do not have a customer care team at all.

Happy to sell but not support

That said, after 2 days they did reply and since that time James has been helpful in trying to resolve the issue and said he will replace under warranty

Contacted support – they helped

I bought the Knog Scout as a GPS tracker for my bike, just to keep an eye on where it's parked. Overall, it's a handy thing, works through the Apple Find My app.

But at some point, the Scout stopped showing up in the Knog app. I wrote to them, thinking I'd get the standard "reinstall the app" reply. Nope – they sent proper steps, specifically about how to reset it. I followed exactly what they said, and it started working again.

Support like that is easy to recommend. The product itself is fine, but with support like this, it's even better.

I love the products and service

I love the products - whether the tag for your luggage or the Bike Scout. brilliant products - easy to handle.
I had one technical issue with a Bike Scout and the support case has been handled with professional care - super easy to communicate all through the process and they replaced the product after a few tests.

Knog user for 3 years

I’ve had the Knog Scout for about three years now. Here are my experiences.
1. I keep my bike in the garage and arm the Knog, but as soon as I get back in the house, my phone loses connection to the Knog, yet I’m only 3 meters away! So they could nick my bike from the garage while I’m asleep and the alarm would not go off.
2. Every time I park the bike in a public place, I lock it and remove panniers, lights, pump, etc but in my rush, I rarely remember to whip out my phone and arm the Knog. It is so tedious to do all these little tasks just for a short visit to a shop.
3. When I arm the Knog, I sometimes test it by rattling the bike. It works. Good. But when I try to disarm it, I have to restart my iPhone to get the app to work. Very embarrassing in a public place.
4. I’ve never had my Knog bike stolen, but if I did I wouldn’t be too confident. Firstly, it wouldn’t work if I forgot to arm it. Secondly, it only works with iPhones nearby, as in extremely close proximity, so it’s gonna be useless in a rural area.

My solution was to get a Bikefinder (at 3 times the price). I don’t have to remember to arm it each time I park the bike. It connects with my phone anywhere in the world because it uses 3 different tracking technologies, including GPS. It is totally hidden inside the handlebars.

The only way Knog beats Bike Finder is that it emits an audible alarm, which will be off-putting to a casual thief. But if only you didn’t have to remember to alarm the Knog each and every time you park the bike!

In reply to your reply:
(1) Yes, there are 3 brick walls between my bike and my bedroom.
(2) What I meant was they could nick my bike while I'm asleep and my phone would not notice.
(3) The issues with the app: It's been like this from the word go. I have changed my iPhone and redownloaded the app a couple of times to no avail. I contacted Support, who advised redownloading. The problem is when my alarm is sounding, and I want to kill it, the app says it's connected; I then press the big red flashing button, but nothing happens. This forces me to restart my phone to make the app behave properly, and I can finally turn the alarm off.

When I park the bike at work, I have a lot of pfaffing around to do: remove stealable attachments and luggage, lock it twice to an immovable object. This takes time when I'm late for work. The final task is to whip out the phone and arm the Knog. If I arm the Knog and then touch my bike, the alarm goes off, and won't turn off until I restart the iPhone.
I hate having to do this in pouring rain, leaving my bags down on a muddy pavement.
First World problems, I know, but after 3 years, I still haven't trained myself to perform this "military operation".

Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback based on your experience - sorry to hear that it has not quite been the most positive for you!

Regarding the alarm function and connectivity, I can clarify a few things here:

If you arm the Scout and then leave Bluetooth range, while you will no longer receive alarm trigger notifications via the app, rest assured the alarm will stay armed and sound if there is any movement of your bike. Bluetooth range can vary depending on the environment - if there is several walls between you and the Scout this can severely reduce the range as with any Bluetooth device, however outside in a free field environment you should easily see a range of 30-50 meters.

With the app issue you are experiencing - this is out of the ordinary and so please feel free to contact our customer service team if you like and we can assess this. In some instances you may need to close the app and reopen it to re-establish a connection, but this should be rare.

As for location and tracking via Find My - yes this service does rely on other phones/devices on the Find My network and the more nearby devices, the more reliable the service is. It is generally very rare that a location is unable to be gathered however, unless the Scout is in a very remote location!

The alarm is pointless and sounds like…

The alarm is pointless and sounds like a broken kids toy even with setting 8 it can barely be heard. Signal is okayish to the phone but in a shop only a few meters away it cuts off. As for locating the knog. I just can’t see how the yellow cover deters thieves. If I was a thief I’d rip it off the bottle cage. In stealth mode it’s probably good but again it will likely arise suspicions in a few minutes from thieves. The app isn’t good either. If the app and device gets disconnected and while armed I’ve got to restart my phone again to disarm. Not the best invention or investment. Therefore I’ve decided to include an Apple gen 2 find my and concealed it in the frame. And also I’ve added a gps tracker.

Knog Scout !! Nul nul nul !!

It's a scam! It doesn't work! After 15 months of use, the tracker is out of order! The iPhone app is rubbish and only works half the time!! Considering the price, it's outrageous! I thought I'd be safe with my bike during my trip, but it just broke down and now it doesn't work! Avoid it!!! Especially considering the price!!

C'est une arnaque ! Ça ne marche pas ! Après 15 mois d'utilisation, le traceur est hors service ! L'application iPhone est nulle et ne fonctionne qu'une fois sur deux ! Vu le prix, c'est scandaleux ! Je pensais être tranquille avec mon vélo pendant mon voyage, mais il vient de tomber en panne et maintenant il ne marche plus ! À éviter absolument ! Surtout vu le prix !

Poor aftersales service

Poor aftersales service, I bought a KNOG blinder 900, after four months it stopped working. I've made a number of attempts to get this returned via thier warranty to no avail, emails unanswerd. The product is now subject to a UK wide recall. it swinter and I cant use my bike without a light, so have had to shell out for a replacement.

Nice lights but unreliable battery life…

Nice lights but unreliable battery life and general reliability not great.

We've owned multiple knog lights for 11+ years.
I keep going back for more because I like the look but I think I'm finally done.

The battery life is pretty poor. There is a way to 'reset' the lights but it doesn't have much effect. They also don't seem to give that much warning before shutting off.

Several lights have failed altogether - one will not power on after 2.5 years, several straps have failed, etc.

Knog Blinder 1300 fells out the mount…

Knog Blinder 1300 fells out the mount very easy - other people on the www has same issues. Knog has extremely difficulties recognising a possible design error and only advise to click the light in properly even if it happens repeatedly for more of us. With a lot of KNOG product bought over the years this is very disappointing.

The mount designs for these lights have been rigorously tested, and since launch there have been no confirmed cases of faulty bar mounts although as you have mentioned, we have noted that it can be possible for users to incorrectly fit the light in some instances and this can result in the light falling from the mount. Fraud?

The lamp I bought had to be destroyed after a year of use, and a replacement was generously announced and promised. Nothing happened! Almost two and a half months of waiting have now passed, and no replacement has arrived. I believe Knog is cheating me and simply withholding the replacement.

Reset for new handphone

Had problems when I changed my iPhone, wrote to customer service and they replied with solutions and clear instructions on how to reset my knog scout with video. Managed to reset and set up on my new iPhone. Fast and responsive product and service team. They even offered to send a replacement of all does not work. Will definitely recommend it to friends.

Keinerlei Stornofrist bei Direktbestellung. Auch keine Antwort des Supports auf entsprechendes Email. Leider wurde die horrende Zustellgebühr im Bestellprozess zu spät wahrgenommen....

Bought a $90 Knog Scout security device two days ago. Been trying to get it to pair with my phone, consulted all the online instructions, consumer comments and YouTube videos, no luck. Knog help centre useless. Sending the thing back.
