Delaying Cancellations.
They can sign you up immediately and start taking payment but cancellation can't be done in the same way.
You have to fill out a request form, filling out the request form with the information requested on the form bounces the request back days later saying "We don't have enough information" you then reply to that giving all the information and you're waiting days because they wont respond due to "High number of messages"
It all feels intentional to try and extract more money from you. Still waiting after three days since the last time they told me they didn't have time to reply, so I sent a follow up asking what's going on, they then replied telling me to "kindly refrain from submitting duplicate requests"
Ridiculous.

After getting nowhere talking to robots on their phone who sent me in circles and their customer support never getting back to me this process finished today.
I cancelled my direct debit with my bank.
This morning I had an email from their payments mailbox asking me if there was anything they could do to keep me as a customer. I replied telling them there wasn't and then I got an email back saying their payments email that asked me that question is no longer monitored.
Kind of sums up the entire experience really. Makes me think they've automated and optimised all of the actual staff out of the organisation and now there's no real people actually working there.

You said "As our memberships are non‑contract, members are free to cancel at any time by cancelling their direct debit to avoid further payments."
And yeah, when I looked at your ToS in detail I found that out. What you should do for your customers is tell them that's an option on the cancellation form - but you don't. You have to dig in to the ToS to figure out if you're going to try and chase for charges and payments.
Your system is badly designed and if you really do care about offboarding as much as you clearly do about onboarding, because sign up is super-simple, you should not be telling people that they need to submit forms and wait for responses and not submit duplicate requests when cancelling.
In big bold letters is should explicitly state that part of your ToS. I shouldn't have to trawl through that to figure out I don't need to wait for your customer service to respond to me.
I wont be changing my review and if you do want to avoid reviews like this you should change your offboarding process... If it's not deliberately opaque which I suspect it is.

I'm a returning member from couple years ago, I've noticed lot new equipment now, everyone is friendly and if I need help with anything all I need to do is ask, if anyone is thinking of joining this gym I highly recommended 👍

Just joined, having been at Wigan Council gym for over a year. Was a little apprehensive as JD was so much bigger. Everything at JD is so much better. Lots of space, everything including the changing rooms much cleaner and better. The offer was great value and will save me about £10 per month. The assistant manager has already been in touch to offer me a free induction session so I can check out what is best for me. So far really pleased I made the move

Changing room facilities clean and spacious also the sauna hits the spot after a workout. Love that I can go anytime during the night or early hours in the morning which helps relieve stress and anxiety of working out during busier hours which can be overwhelming at times.

I didn't know how to get in i pressed the staff assistant button i was asked my name etc and I was let in and I was made very welcome and made at ease to be back 1st day back in the gym id recommend jd gym to anyone they are there for all your needs and more

One of the best gyms I've been to, loads of equipment so no matter how busy it is, there is always a machine free, helpful staff, friendly gym goers and it's open 24/7. Id heard bad things about the gym, but in my 2 weeks of going there, so far so good

Great gym love the classes. The gym has huge choice of equipment and is open 24 hours. Staff are very friendly and will always help and explain equipment use to you.
The phone is never answered. I've left 3 messages now on multiple different occasions each requesting a call back and leaving a number. No one ever calls back yet it's not possible to book the thing I want online. This is a poor system and needs improvement.

Great Gym!
I have been coming 3/4 times in the last two weeks. Gym is always tidy, lots of variety and facilities are good. Only downfall is accessible toilets downstairs for poor mobility isn’t easy to know code or how to access and not always staff around to ask.
