Upon arrival at JD Gyms Bournemouth, I was greeted by Harry, a Personal Trainer who has been with the business for approximately eight weeks. Harry immediately demonstrated a high level of professionalism and engagement, approaching the interaction in a welcoming and confident manner. His personable approach created a strong first impression and reflected positively on the gym’s customer service culture.
I requested a tour of the facility, which Harry was happy to facilitate. The tour lasted approximately ten minutes and provided a comprehensive overview of the gym’s layout, equipment zones, and general member environment. Throughout the walkthrough, Harry communicated clearly and was able to confidently discuss key areas of the gym, demonstrating a good level of familiarity with the facility despite his relatively short tenure.
Operational Discussion
Following the tour, I asked Harry if we could sit down briefly to allow me to gain a deeper operational understanding of the Bournemouth site. Harry was very accommodating and spent around ten minutes answering a series of questions regarding staffing, day-to-day operations, and the general culture within the gym.
During this conversation, Harry explained that the gym currently has six Personal Trainers and four Fitness Coaches working across the site. He spoke very positively about his experience since joining JD Gyms, highlighting what he described as a strong team culture and supportive working environment. He emphasised that colleagues have been welcoming and helpful during his onboarding period, which suggests a positive internal culture within the team.
Observational Insight
At the time of my visit, Harry appeared to be the only Personal Trainer visibly present on the gym floor. While this may have been reflective of scheduling or break patterns at that time, it did highlight an opportunity to ensure consistent visible staff presence across the gym floor to maximise member engagement, support, and upselling opportunities such as personal training.
Overall, Harry represented the brand well. His enthusiasm, approachability, and willingness to engage in open conversation demonstrated strong frontline qualities that contribute positively to the member experience.

Avoid it at any cost!!! I would give them rating of -10 but sadly can’t do that.
At the beginning, the gym was okay.
But then the showers got dirty and mouldy, like they had never been cleaned.
The admin customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life.
I wanted to pause my membership, and it took them two weeks!!!! just to reply to me that they couldn’t find my membership, despite having all my details provided on their form. It is a scam tactic. Eventually, I had to pay two months extra because they had been purposely delaying my request. I eventually cancelled my membership and a direct debit. I was ready to get a solicitor involved, it was that bad!
Don’t get fulled by their useless and scamming “promotions” of upgrading for free for the plus account. It is also a scam!
And I’m sure they will reply to this review with just a generic marketing bull5hit, saying that they are happy to help or whatever completely irrelevant they always come up with.
Scammers!!!

They don't replace the towels to clean the machines, they haven't done it for over a week, the machines are sticky and yesterday one was full of sweat, it's horrible

There is no stretch area, you have to just stretch in the middle of the floor. There is a culture of not putting weights away, can’t this culture be discouraged?
The showers……. Impossible to get dry as the floor is flat and soaked, there is only on or off, the temperature is very hot and can’t be controlled, last thing you want after a sweaty session! Cool shower is preferred and better for your skin health.
There is nowhere to privately change, it’s a real faff, as a woman this is especially awkward when on your period. You have to get changed in a wet shower.
The lockers are really tall (why) and thin so it’s impossible to get a full gym bag in….. not sure how I will ever get my winter work clothes in there alongside all my skincare and hair tools (only hairdryers in the changing room)
The changing room has clearly been rushed and not thought out with women’s needs.

I have been a member since it opened and yes it has great gym equipment but as I like to arrive very early between 4-5am to only have one toilet open for up to around 50 members is an absolute joke. The toilet is often soiled and very smelly and really not acceptable. What is your offer as a solution here please advise. Also all the lockers are now pretty much taken and there is no where to put my belongings?
Plus the QR code scanner was down this morning and I could not access the gym - no other means to get in - really disappointing. Again what solution can you offer if that happens again.

Could you please replenish the wipes? It has been over two weeks, and they have not been restocked. This is important for the hygiene of the machines and the well-being of those using the gym. Thank y

A great new JD Gym opened in Bournemouth, Dorset. Gym is really spacious, the hybrid area is FIRE!!!
Plenty of space and equipment so you don’t really queue to use the machines. Peak time though is really busy, but I suppose it is normal for a newly opened gym.
However, a bit of advice in terms of missing machines.
- there is no step in the gym. These are much needed for deficit lower body exercises. Please bring a few steps (like the rebook ones that adjust their height) 🙏🏼 I can’t keep using the glute box or the normal box as they are too soft. And not all benches can be moved as not all have wheels, plus they are a bit too high for these exercises.
- additionally, the weight on the cable machine for triceps is not enough. Doesn’t go too heavy.
Other than this, nothing bad to say. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The gym is clean and tidy, looks very high end. Locker rooms are very nice, hair dryers, sauna, all looks good and clean. A bit too small for ladies, especially in peak time, but hey, we’re only there for a couple of mins.
Edit: please bring in paper towels and sprays to wipe down the equipment as I have only seen one device with wet wipes in the whole gym. And a thinner and longer rope for the cables. And a v-bar for cables as well. 🙏🏼
