I'm a developper and i upload my game on itch.io and made money but i cant payout my money !
The differents service they propose : Payoneer and Paypal doesnt work, and the "support" doesnt answer to my request, they lock my money since several weeks, the fruit of my labor

Terrible and non-existant customer service. Sent two messages over a three week period to solve my account issues.When they finally replied they threaten to close my account because I changed my email to the new account I made because they took weeks to reply..No way this is an organized company. They seem to just do anything

Itch.io advertises itself as “a simple way to find and share indie games online for free.” As a developer who has recently attempted to publish a game on their platform, I’ve found this claim to be quite misleading. Despite the promise of simplicity, the platform is fraught with issues that undermine its usability for developers. These include an opaque and prolonged manual review process, inaccurate publish dates, and a lack of support channels, all of which make it difficult to share games with an audience effectively.

Itch.io advertises itself as a quick and straightforward platform, but the process for making a game visible to the public is far from simple. New games undergo a mandatory manual review process before they can be seen on the site’s search pages and “Recently Uploaded” lists. While the platform suggests this process takes only a few business days, in reality, it can stretch on for months, during which time a game remains completely invisible to users.

After the manual review is finally completed, the “publish date” of the game is retroactively set to the original upload date, not the date of approval. This policy prevents games from appearing in the “Recently Uploaded” lists when they are actually made public, robbing developers of valuable early visibility for their projects.

The platform offers a support email, but emails sent to this address go unanswered. With no alternative methods for contacting support, developers are left without recourse to ask about the review process or other account-related issues.

Upon joining, users face restrictions in community forums until their accounts are deemed to be in “good standing,” which supposedly requires forum activity. However, all posts require manual approval, creating a paradoxical situation where new users cannot meaningfully engage with the community or address account concerns.

Itch.io should either modify or discontinue its advertising statement that it provides “a simple way to find and share indie games online.” Based on my experience, the platform fails to uphold this claim. Itch.io should make its manual review process and the potential for extended wait times clear on the website, so developers understand what they’re signing up for. Additionally, Itch.io should adjust their publish date policy to reflect the date games are approved and made visible, so they can appear on the “Recently Uploaded” lists accordingly. Finally, improved customer support would help address these issues, allowing developers to resolve problems effectively.

I wish they had direct payout (as Payonner are "allegedly" scums), and the payout and support replies take a while, but other than that, it's good.

Bought a game of Itch website. The game did not work so I wrote 3 emails for a refund. After 3 days I still have not got a reply. So I will get in contact with my bank for a refund.

User-side, as a gamer, it is nice, fast and cool but beware of scammers, shovelware/stolen-asset sellers, malware uploaders, and discord hijackers. (No idea if devs have any good experience with it, though.)

Paid for 1 month. No jobs even remotely relevant.

Complete rip off. Absolutely AVOID.

No response to emails after 10+ days. Not surprising to see they have such a low rating on trustpilot, wish I'd checked reviews first.

Their communication is awful and they take forever to pay out to developers.

Their advertised payout times are a lie.
You're lucky if you get paid out within 30 days. It is arbitrary.

They simply do not care.
No apologies, no communications for payout issues, nothing to compensate the effects it has.

I bought a game through itch.io and had no problems. Furthermore, it is possible to buy without an account, which is a big plus for me. You then get a link where you can always download the latest version of the game.

I tried to purchase a pdf. My credit card was blocked for fraudolent behavior.

Good game to donwload indie videogames, lots of great games in here.
But its better to use steam in paid games justin case

I have bought a tile set. But it was not what I expected. So I had contacted support several times. and the support just doesn't respond. whatever you buy at itch.io you can forget about your money. they never cooperate with you. they are a bunch of scammers.

Bought a game with a steam key. After purchase I didn't get a Steam key. I contacted support as per the FAQ but support literally doesn't respond. I went to their forums & discord to try to get in touch with them. NOTHING

If you can buy your game in steam, get it there instead. Aftersales on this site is non existent.

Purchased a game in January. It has been developing patches every month, with minor tweaks and bug fixes. Went to download the July update... well, turns out you have to REpurchase EVERY month for those tweeks. Contacted the site to report it, they told the company selling that game is using their service as a Patreon, wich wasnt designed for, and they are sorry. Didnt even banned the seller or anything (Euromancer) Thats it. No solutions. So, no recommended site.

Worst customer service ever. I asked for a refund for a $10 plugin that didn't work and for over 2 weeks. I sent 5 emails and even threatened legal action and still nothing.

I made a complaint on the forums to get support and they simply locked the thread.

Itch.IO are a company of thieves and liars. Don't do business with them.

It's cool. Cool company. They don't force a profit cut or initial fee like steam and it lets you custom your profile and game pages to absolutely whatever you like. You can have vastly different pages for different games. Completely free website. Completely awesome. I think the app is a bit undercooked as It's hard to search games and do regular website stuff and download free games you've gotten before on other computers. And if you download off the website instead of the app it won't show up in the app.
